  Prediction of large drop in JW numbers in 2014

  i am going to make the prediction, here and now in mid 2006, that there will be a significant drop in the number of jehovah's witnesses in the year 2014, the one hundredth anniversary of 1914.. the only way this drop in numbers might be avoided is if the watchtower society can think up some way to stir up the rank and file and get them motivated to do more, like they did with the 1975 fiasco.. .

  i doubt very much that the watchtower magazine is going to proclaim loudly in the year 2014 anything about the "generation of 1914" not passing away.. --vm44

The leaders are more concerned with confirming they are still in power than they are concerned with business growth and corporate health. They are getting more demanding, they are adding more rules, they are stepping up enforcement of existing rules. Compliance by members = confirmation of power"

  I agree with Gary! Everything they are pushing is quickening the Society's demise. If it wasn't for most JW's extensive family connections, I would bet big money that the whole thing would implode in a couple of years. (When you have lots of family "in", you tend to WANT to look the other way)

  i spent my career (30 years) fighting bullies.

  is wtbts and its subsidiaries (not talking about individual jws here) a bullying organisation?.

They beat you up then tell you it was because of something you did, you deserved it, then they tell you they love you and no one else will.......... "

  My Grandmother "got the truth" 5 days before Xmas in 1939, while living in a tiny Missouri city (600 pop). She threw the Xmas tree out for curb trash for the whole town to see. My 7 year old mother had to go to school and deal with the backlash. They soon after moved to California.

  Did she have a second witness on an extension? If not, I'm sure she misunderstood. You accidentally pulled up one of those evil apostate sites and you are so depressed about it that you are making yourself ill and might have to miss the memorial.

  That would be my story and I would be sticking to it! Unless, of course, you're ready for the big showdown.

  worst Bookstudy book

  what is the book you liked the least studying at the bookstudy?

  for me it was the isaiah books.

  Worst: Revelation Book. It had a WT spin for every verse,

  Best: Babylon the Great Has Fallen. It had the coolest pictures to alter and color in. Anyone remember the two headed fanged sheep? (For JW's, I had cool parents-My Dad would even pass me different colored pens)

  Welcome to the board, Airduster.

  What always bothered me, from a young teen onward, was the constant teaching that if you were not a JW you would die. The entire message I found in the Greek Scriptures was the mercy and love of Jehovah.

  As a hovering adult, associated with several congregations in different parts of the US, was the OVERWHELMING lack of love that was displayed by word or action. I know "man" is imperfect, but that does not negate the fact that Jesus said that you would know his people for the love they would display. Jesus did not say "conditional love". There was no qualifier in his statement. This "lack of love" is what pushed me to seriously examine the doctrines the JW's teach.

  I don't know how old you are, but don't waste years or decades sitting on the fence about this. Once you are out or have firmly faded, you'll be stunned at how emotionally immature you are. Then begins the struggle to finish growing up. Reading this boards has been very helpful for men in knowing many have struggled with the exact same feelings and issues.

  As a JW how do/did you feel about 6 billion people being destroyed?

  how else can a person justify that jehovah will destroy 6 billion people, innocent children included?

  i could never accept that i deserved salvation whereas almost no one else did.

  it put me on permanent spiritual edge because i thought the slave is right so the doctrine of destruction must be, but my heart always knew it was wrong.

  I was Very lucky to have rational, loving parents and Grandmother. When this bothered me deeply as a young child (my other grandparents were not JW's, but Good, loving people, etc) they reassured me that God was loving and just, and he knew everyone's heart. The JW's were always harping that the old covenant was done away with, but failed to take in the overwhelming message of the New Testament: LOVE! - A big part of my finally allowing myself to fade away.
