Discussion with my parents about WTS
by GBSJG inafter reading for a few months this is my first post here.

I reminded my mother of a conversation we had in 1963, just after she was baptised where she said:
"If the Watchtower ever changes and you know they are no longer true, leave them, but don't leave God" I had almost forgotten about it. When she said the members of the kh she's at now are not very friendly to her, I had a great oppurtunity to remind her.
I was realy surprised when she said "they have a lot to answer for' I told don't hold her breath.

A part of me
by *Heather* inmy mother married a man that was a complete and utterly a-hole.
he made life miserable, and i would say he made my life like living in hell (for 9 1/2 years).
i don't know what his problem was, but i guess it was this darn religion and more.

Welcome to the board, Heather.
I thought I had this figured out (the theology) when in my late 20's. Jesus was a corresponding ransom for Adam so new world could be restored, you paid the price of your sin at your death. Ressurected other sheep, and the rightous and unrightous would be taught 'new laws' based on 'new scrolls' and people would be judge based on what they did after the resurrection and must pass the final test. BUT the annointed were not subject to the final test.
Soon I noticed wts was against ANYTHING that took yor time away from 'theocratic activity'. I realy believe they are against the milatary service because they cannot control soldiers, same for collage.

Do you still see Doom and Gloom all around you like JW's do?
by JH inwe all know that the jw's think that the end is so close.. in a way, i'm still programmed that way.
i like reading news from all around the world, and you can find bad news all around the world.
example: bird flu, iran nuclear problem, terrorism, and so on.... i'm just wondering if other x witnesses here still are doom and gloom people, thinking that we are on the edge of some world catastrophy?

Not realy, the news coverage today is so quick that you can see many things going on in the world within a 30 minute newshow. Publicity seems to make terrism worse.

A 1975 story
by TooBad TooSad inwhile i was in high school in the mid 60's i was told that the end was so near that i would not get to graduate from high school so i should not be concerned about being drafted due to the war in vietnam.
well i got drafted but did not pass my physical due to a medical problem.. i then considered go to school in the late 60's to enter the medical field.
i was encouraged by the elders not to do this because the end is so near and why get schooling for a profession that you will not need in a few years?

I know how you feel, I graduated HS in 1974, skated through my classes because I knew my parents would not help with collage in any way. I even played hooky 30 days straight in 9th grade because of being bullied for being "different". Failed biology for not answering evolution questions 'correctly' on exams.
There were not any girls my age @ kh, and my father suggested waiting for new order when the older (much older) sisters would start looking younger. When I did find a sister a little younger than myself (19 then, she was 17) the elders steered her to a newly converted 28 y.o. Ms, they left the org. right after marrying.

I recall elders saying they could sell the hall to another religion, or buy real estate from them. However, they would not rent to or from them because of "too much involvement".
On the Phillip-Morris issue, my wife was df after having a nervious breakdown and the mental hospital gave her cigs. when she didn-t even know her name. When she got out, an elder order her to quit cold turkey that day. She asked for 2 weeks, he refused and called her wicked and would be destroyed at armagadden if she wasn't reinstated when it came. She quit, got reinstated then never went back.

I graduated High School in 1974,and naturaly my parents did not see a point in collage., now I'm a commission based sales rep and probably too late to change..
I regret that I didn't get closer to non-jw friends, there were none my age at kh.
