By 2008, the USA is supposed to have an ID card program for people entering gov. builings, airports, depots and bus terminals. Anyone have details or opinions?

What Things Were You Deprived Of Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness?

i hardly know my father's (worldly) side of the family.
didn't know my grandfather, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins.

Couldn't watch 'westerns' ,play with toy guns, have female friends.
Actualy, my jw parents were not as strict as my Baptist grand parents. They were even worse ,no cards, billards, darts,boys couldn't lock the bathroom door.

i see them as a business whose imitation of religion is so inept that it can easily be detected.

What I don't understand is if they are profit based, who gets the money? I heard GB members get the same(choke) salary as the Bethalites -$21 a week. Is money paid out to stockholders? Are the stockholders jw's? At nearly 1 billion $ per year gross income, it make one wonder.
At assemblies, the GB always had great suits.

Is Gods correct name pronounced Jehovah?? What about the messiahs name?
by evergreen ini thought i would ask this question as i have been reading some fascinating information on some other sites as to the correct pronunciation of gods real name?
also for that matter, i ask what jesus proper pronounced name is?.
if you go to another country and tell people your name and instead of calling you your name as you pronounced it, they automatically transliterate it into their own language and call you by the name thay have transliterated it in to; would that annoy you after awhile?

Jehovah is the ENGLISH translation of YHWH, using the King's English. Some scholars use Yahweh, but using this formula of translation, one would have to change Jacob, Jehoash,Jehu, Joab,Joshua etc, Even city names would be changed. Even if the spellings were kept the same, pronounciations could still differ i.e. Jesus in spanish is pronounced HAY-SUSE.
I'm not worried about the exact Hebrew pronounication because I don't speak Hebrew, I don't think God will hold it against me.

Ironic hypocrisy of Bethel "service"
by MinisterAmos ini normally let people make their own decisions with a very hands off approach, but after reading the "living together in bethel" (or whatever the name of the piece of crap book is) i need to vent a bit.. anyone here is very familiar with the "quit your job or at least cut way back" talks that we were subjected to seemingly every other week.
after all, good dubz need time to prepare, attend, pioneer etc.
a good friend of mine left her job at an insurance co. to pioneer.

Undeserved kindness versus Grace - does it matter?
by misspeaches injust wondering if its just me or not.... does it matter to anyone else that the wtbts changed the word grace to undeserved kindness in the nwt?
in my opinion having changed it to undeserved kindness they use this as a way to guilt trip people into always doing more more more!
where as grace is just grace.

I always thought WTS was just tring to be diifferent from "Christendom"., We have Grace due to the blood of Christ (ransom) and God's love. Grace covers more than undeserved kindness which covers only unintentional Adamic sin.
Grace is certainly easier to sing about

Does WTBTS still own the _Phillips-Morris cigarette stock?
by lighthouse1956 inmy wife was hopping mad about being df for smoking (and being told she would die at armageddon if she was not reinstated by the time it came.
he actualy called her "wicked").
she quit smoking, got reinstated and never went back to the hall.

My wife was incinsed when she learned WTS had a fiancial interest (even unknowingly) in tobbacco, after she had been df for picking up the habit at a state mental health hospital. At that time, she didn't even know her own name. The hospital allowed smokers to go into the yard areas on 'cig breaks' , non-smokers were not allowed outside. She complained, so the hospital gave her cigarettes.
When she tried to explain to the elders( who dropped in unannounced) did not listen. She asked for 2 weeks to quit, but was df on the spot and called Wicked. Sorry if I don't believe them.
