How long are people remembered?

unless you are famous for something how long are you really remembered?.

maybe you are remembered at most by your grandchildren, but then your presence in the universe is gone.. so, really, what difference does it make whether you die in your 40's or your 70's, your memory simply lingers another 30 years at most.

Every last one of us is alone. No matter how many lover's, friends or aquiantences we have. Every nite when you lay your head down on the pillow, you have no idea if you will wake up. Go to bed tonight, picturing everything you will miss if you do not wake up. Upon waking (thank god) have another go around of the same thought process.

Whatever your feeling, believe it or not, most of us have felt similar, at one time or another. Like outoftheborg said, 'it was worth the effort'.

Fred Price a Jehovah's Witness????

for years i have seen this guy on tv i recall going out to la for a dc and his church was located in the territory of the bethelites family i stayed with and we laughed at how he was getting over on folks, just taking their money.

and now i learn that he got his early training from the jehovahs witnesses.

yes i think fred price is my new idol.

Communisim much like socialisim is adopted by many as a substitue for religion. One of the definitions of 'religion' is "A cause, priniciple, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion", so yes I agree almost any cause or belief structure can be considered a religion.

Once you come to the conclusion you have just presented, it becomes very difficult to promote one belief system as THE TRUTH, THE WAY over any other..............that is where the wtbs and every other religion/cult ends up........in a stalemate. My god can beat your god up!

Like you have said many times 'do it our way, or you die'. To buy into any religion, one must be prepared for the really hard question:

Will other's not worshiping my god, be saved? If the answer is yes, then who really cares what god or belief you have, everyone is foot loose and fancy free to do whatever they please. Yet how many 'true believer's, honestly answer this question? Iam afraid when push comes to shove, Allah is not acceptable to Christians or vice versa.

when i was a jw, i think what i was most afraid of was being hurt.

i did everything to keep myself from getting hurt.

i banged on doors with the best of the pioneers.

I think the big 'A' is no longer the fear inspiring instrument it used to be. Even the most loyal jwdub now looks very pragmatically at any kind of 'prediction', having been burned so much by blunder's like 'stay alive till 75', and 'this generation will not pass away' hype.

To me it is the DISFELLOWSHIP clause that holds most of them by the gonads. Fear of losing thier entire life style, family, friends, and support.

I truly believe that the wtbs will never reform this policy. It is what is holding the entire leaking ship together at this moment.

Well I think your conculusions leave a little bit unsaid.

You cannot isolate out the religious overtones to everyone of the examples you use, plus those not mentioned. In fact I will propose that almost every conflict, war, pogrom, extermination, in history has had it's foundation mixed with some sort of religious intoloerance.

So trying to obfuscate the role god(s) as a participant in these events, is streching credulity to the limit.

Jimmy 'boy' Swaggart was caught with his pants down in New Orleans....utilizing the services of a HO.

Those '6's' and Rolls are sure to make the average street corner girl, swoon with anticipation.......no wonder they are popular with the 'Price' is Right crowd.

Can't really fault them for spending thier money, but it is the poor/poor parishoner's that are the one's to be pitied.

Thinking about Bill Bowen...

i was looking over the thread... "should i support bill bowen?".

i realize i am one of the few people that gave bill somewhat of a difficult time pretty much from the beginning when it was not "fashionable" to do so.

it was never my hope to see the man reduced to what he has, but rather to gain a better understanding of the issues involved, the intents and goals of silentlambs and to see reasonableness govern everyone's actions in the whole affair.. imo, i don't think there is any other single person in the last while that has done so much to help address the issue of child abuse among jw's while at the same time exposing them for what they really are.

Lust For Glory Alienating The Majority?

if i had ever been a victim of abuse, and the offence had been perpetrated by a member of the jw religion, then silent lambs would be the best thing ever to appear, both on tv and in person.. if i had a close friend or relative who had gone through the same trauma, then i would feel almost the same emotion.. now i do not know, obviously, what percentage of persons on this site have been victims of abuse by jw's, but my guess is that this percentage is relatively small.

so whilst most of us feel very empathetic to abuse victims, not that great a proportion of us have experienced it personally.. however, i do know that many of us have suffered trauma because of other forms of abuse by this organisation, including disfellowshipping which has caused many to be rejected by their loved ones.

whilst it is not possible to measure this form of abuse against that of child abuse, it is nonetheless a type of abuse that most of us are familiar with on a personal level, it's also a type of abuse that is still going on for many who post here.

Abuse Problem Greater with the JW's?

i am interested in hearing comments from you regarding whether you feel the child abuse problem is greater within the jw 'religion' moreso than other religions or identifiable groups.. i know some have made the comment that it is and others say there is no difference.

on what do you basis your belief either way.

is it strictly that the environment is conducive to pedophiles co-existing with the cong or based on empirical data?.

Reference to a genetic problem may be just as emotive as the subject of homosexual tendencies, resultant from genetic patterns.

But I think you hit on something, as regards the 'closed nature' of jwdom.

Those of us raised in the truth, particularly boy's going through puberty, are stifled from expression of sexuality by unreasonable jw standards. The stand the wtbs takes on masturbation one of the most onerous, in this regard.

I had to pull out all the stops to remain a virgin until I was married at the age of 23. Waiting those few months between engagement and the vows, were painful to say the least!

Restrictions on dating, socializing with the opposite sex, judgemental elder's, constant haranging from the pages of the wt magazine and other publications, hieghten and peak the interest of the jw youth, but they have no way of release of tension.

I think many of the sexual indescretions, including child abuse, may well be a result of this repressive atmosphere, promoted on all levels of the organization.
