how about your 10 all time favourite cd's.
mine:.
beach boy's -pet sounds.
Hey Uncle,
Thought you disappeared off the edge. Where ya been boy???
Yeah I know my taste in music reflects my, shall I say, somewhat reduced activity stage in life. Iam not by any means done kickin up my heels now and then, but the party and dance till 2am three nights a week...I left behind a few years ago....T still gets me goin every once in awhile..just takes two days to recover now.
Actually the Peruvian flute music is quite relaxing, certain groups use more percussion then others....there is some historical context and tradition, that comes through...when they blend some western music with their own..it is wonderful.
Take care my friend...was so glad to find a post from you. Thought you left us for greener pastures.

the biggest error wt has continued to make for the last 120yrs is they leave a wonderful paper trail behind - where a serious student of study will have no problem following and seeing that so many of their lofty claims simply don't fly .
case in point - are the elders trained or untrained clergymen as it were?.
well for those of you who have never served as an elder allow me to share with you what elders are told about their training.
JT you man,
Couldn't resist that 'you cool man' or should it be 'you cold man' now made famous accross cyberspace 'apostate' meetings. Iam sure the boys in writing also pay attention, when they see those words.
Training, what a joke...I can remember one of those special seminars, conducted by a particualarly stern, egocentric, unbending DO at the time (Bryant). What a self important, pompous, power weilder this guy was. He conducted this meeting like it was boot camp. Demanding compliance on every little detail...lunch was litteraly pick up your fork like this brothers..never let me hear you doing this or that. We had brothers after this 'special training' say that if they had to endure any more of it, they would have walked out on the guy. I don't know where this egomaniac ended up....but I sure pity anyone who had to deal with him.
Training....I must admit for once the legal eagles are telling the truth....maybe someone should suggest that the WT is required reading in that Dept as well?

i've been thinking about americans.
specifically about whether the wt, being an american dominated religion, forces american attitudes and culture upon other nations.. now, don't get me wrong, i'm not anti-american.
living in canada i have a lot of contact with many americans.
Hello Grunt,
Are you the one and the same SemperFi from H20? If so a hearty join the crowd of refugees. This is an excellent group!
Glad to have your 'patriotic' and 'apostate' views to read.
Danny
judgemental and closeminded were exact descriptions of my former jw self.. recently on another forum, someone posted a cartoon depicting the character urinating on the bible.
i had an immediate revulsion and concluded this was not appropriate, letting the poster know my thoughts.
other's on the forum did not see it as i did.
Amicus,
*** I hear things said on this DB that I NEVER hear in my fleshly daily contact with others. I think the reasons for this are varied and unique with each occurence. I tend to group these outbursts into three catagories: 1. immaturity, 2. anger, and 3. cowardice.***
I have come to the same conclusion Amicus. Believe me the respect and civil tone, reflected on this forum, is noticeably different than several other well known sites.
I don't think I can remember in my entire adult life, anyone ever in my face calling me a liar. It simply just doesn't happen. But like you say due to immaturity, anger, or outright cowardice, some feel that they can get away with it. I don't think they can. They deminish themselves and create an atmosphere of hostility...allowing others to test the limits of civility. I have had my fill of this type, intellegent or learned makes no difference to me, if they can't keep a civil tounge...they don't deserve honor or respect.
Thanks for your comments, sometimes I think my ugly Jw spirit of judgementalism rears it head, I do try to be as open and willing to listen to anyone's ideas. But sometimes you have to set the boundaries, even if it is a dear friend or aquaintance.
I really appreciated hearing from Ioian, Neyank, Philo, TW and the rest of your comments...sometimes you just need to hear...even if the answers are not what you wanted.

Uncle Bruce addressed this subject once over at H20...if I remember he pointed out how presumptious the WTBS is when discussing its mandates from God. Uncle if I don't get this right...chime in will ya.
In a nutshell, his point was that CTR and JR were very adamant about being chosen as the FDS. How convenient. Why do you suppose these two gents claimed such a 'god ordained' corner on the world of religious 'truth'? Who's to say the god of the bible didn't bless some little group of bible students, studying the scriptures on some remote prarie, forest, village, anywhere else in this wide world?
Just because CTR had the business sense to start a massive publishing campaign, just because da judge had the hootzpah to Advertise, Advertise the message...coupled with a ready supply of 'slaves' to do his bidding (blairing phonograph records and loud speakers) up and down every thourhfare and doorstep, doesn't mean he/they had any corner on God's attentions or truths. It only confirms that these US businessman turned preachers..succeeded in getting their message out.
Well let me see who else has accomplished similar Nike, McDonald's, Coca Cola, Pepsi, you name it...all originating in the USA. We are a nation of promoters and salesman...we love other people to love our stuff. Doesn't make our stuff any better neccessarily, just makes us better salesman.

one of the things that has bothered me for years, in this organization is how appointments are made.
its alleged to be done by holy spirit.
or by men whose decisions are effected or influenced by holy spirit.
TR,
***or is he another CT Russell or even a Jim Jones in the making? I prefer, at this point in my life, to wait and see what happens. Am I doomed? Or am I quite rightly following the bible's instruction to not listen those who try to draw people away for themselves?***
Yeah I think so TR. And not doomed by any means.

JT,
LOL on the panting. You brought back memories of my all time (Fred Franz classic) Babylon The Great Has Fallen-God's Kingdom Rules..whew even the title sends shivers up my spine.
I studied that book inside and out...talk yellow lines, black lines, red lines, I made em. I must of read that pile of 'gobbledegook' 4 times or more. Every time there was something in the news that I could remotely relate to it, I trounced on it...
I do remember the anticipation and eagerness to get that new publication..standing in long lines to do so. Amazing to think that those same publications I was drooling over, now are so old that many adult Jw's have no idea that they even exsisted.
Funny how they have a never ending flow of 'new light'.....could it be that it gets so cold and dark with the current 'food in due season' that to keep anybody remotely interested, they must find something to get the brother's and sister's going again???? Well lets see now fellow 'old fart GB's' what former rock solid beliefs can we change this summer, that will get the rif-raf off their Sat. morning easy chairs...and sell more books for us?
Sell, sell, sell the only way to heavenly favor.

Good subject Zev,
The WTBS has had a fetish for this 'spirit begotten' idea since the early days. Judge Rutherford claimed to have angels directly planting 'truths' into his brain. During the Knorr/Franz era the gilead school for Congregation Servants (now Presiding Overseer's) went so far as to show charts and diagrams of how the 'holy spirt' directly moved the organization.
This is all very heady stuff, designed to elevate the stakes, to create the aura of God's personal hand in the org's affairs. It is a ploy used by many charlatan's and magicians. Whatever it takes to mystify or enhance the drama, they will do it. No substance, no proof, no evidence is needed. Just make the claim, put it in writing, and voila...you got 6 million dupes(I can say this having been one of those dupes), panting after every word you utter. Tricks of the religous trade, tried and tested for centuries. It works!
Appointed by holy spirit? Not even the slightest proof(facts not fancy) can be offered.
