it's halftime and the niners are up 27-3. i grew up in san francisco and one of the requirements is you must hate all teams from la.
even the swedish bikini team must be hated if they live in la.
well the rams aren't in la any longer but i'm old and can only remember them being an la team so when one of my teams is winning big like this, i just smile.

i'm planning to go to nyc soon and i would like to tour hq!!
i seem to remember members of the public were welcome?
i went to watchtower.org but that didn't tell me anything about tours and there's no email contact - anyone know what the score is or who i book a vist (or protest march or whatever's going :-) through?
Unclebruce:
i'd prefer to be photographed piss'n on the CTR pyramid myself
RAFLMAO. Hope the lights are off.

i noticed quite a few former elders commenting on the thread:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=37801&site=3&page=1
i thought it was amusing that about 20 percent of the bethelites in my department at bethel have left the organization.
Yep, I admit to being an ARSE [Another Recovering, yet Sensitive Ex-elder], so add me to the list.
AF: I don't recall the verbal thing on destroying files but do recall some discussion about procedure when served with a search warrant, such as be sure you read the thing, etc.
FWIW: Also: around 1990, in a situation I have first-hand knowledge of, relative to the strong interest of secular authorities in a specific judicial file and specific judicial committee knowledge (from testimony/confession) the Service Dept stated that they did not expect [elders who handled the case] to go to jail [for refusing to testify] to protect a wrongdoer. So the implication was that we were free to answer questions from "authorities" provided there was established wrongdoing involved. [The question of asserting ecclesiastical privelege in this particular situation was muddled by the fine print of the law in this state]

Meeting clothes are definitely the proper attire
So , if I'd go to a meeting in Levi's, hiking boots, and wearing a SilentLambs shirt, that oughta be just right for a tour....maybe even with www.jehovahs-witness.com on the back....

.
when those of you became an elder, or even perhaps a person of responsibility in the congregation, what did you become aware of that shocked or suprised you behind closed doors, out of the sight of the rest of the congregation, that you would not have known if it were not for your position?.
I was a bit shocked to see how much "wrongdoing" was going on, in the clean "New World Society"
And yessiree, [as others have mentioned] the double-standard; the way some elders got the ear of the CO; and also the bitterness in some elder meetings; the attitude [mentioned by Ray Franz as a GB attitude] we better not let the brothers do ANYTHING boderline, 'cause there's not telling what they'll go ahead and do then.
The pettiness, too.

we've heard how some are convinced that loyal witnesses would do almost anything if they were told by the organization to do it.
some have even suggested killing if that's what was required.
how far would you have gone for the organization when you were in its clutches?
Well said, Larry. Me too.
----Dan
since the organization has so many rules, did you ever just want to break a rule, just to do it?
one rule that i enjoyed breaking was the 15 to 20 minute rule that you were supposed to come to the meeting early.
i was regularly tardy.
Having/enjoying a beard; wearing a sport coat instead of suit for a public talk.
LOL @ DakotaRed..me too.
Blondie: Too funny. When we/I look back so many of the "rules" scream BS, but it sure didn't always seem so at the time. The "nylons" in field service thing I always thought was over the top, though, [especially where shapely, well-tanned legs were concerned]

many thanks to dungbeetle for providing the mp3's.
i've converted them to windows media player format for playing directly (they should work ok at 28.8k).

in jdub days coming home from the coventions the car discussion would always ask "what are you taking home with you from the convention"- meaning what part did i like or how was i encouraged.
to be honest, answering that question has always been a struggle.
i asked myself this question as i sat in traffic for 2hrs on my way home from the march.
Well done
