so, you are starting to leave the cult.
you begin to meet new people and instead of viewing them all as 'bad association', you begin to view them as fellow humans.
what was your first impression of 'worldly people'?.
My impression of "worldly folks" was much the same as that already expressed.
I also reflected that some of the Witnesses I knew (certainly not ALL, just some) were slime-balls even by "worldly" standards, they did things business-wise that NONE of the non-witnesses I now know would ever do, etc.
Also, I got to know one family with 3 teenage kids at home fairly early in my exit....I recall being most surprised at their parenting skills, their closeness with their kids, and their common-sense approach to dealing with their teens. They were not at all permissive, were very much concerned about where the kids were when not at home, what movies they went to, etc. etc. And the teens did/and do respect these parents, something I absolutely did not expect to see "in the world".......
I found most "worldly people" to be far less interested in sexual misconduct (either in action or talking about it) than I expected (or that I had observed and/or known about as an elder)...... Did you ever "add up" how many witnesses you knew/know that were involved in adultery, for example??? I think the percentage is even more than in the general population, perhaps because of not having the fear of a "fiery hell"???
My two cents.

My first impression was GREAT, these guys ROCK!! Big Time (ok, I didn't say ROCK)
The one and only reason for this was that when my parents starteed "studying", I, as a 6-year old, no longer had to go to Catholic School Catechism on Saturdays...
Seriously, but LOL.
I wish the nuns had been nicer to me, I might have fought to keep going to Catechism.......

i didn't know of some of these and question the status of others.
many i have never heard of.. list of famous jehovah's witnessesa range of participation is represented by these individuals, from full activity to disaffiliation.. george benson - jazz guitarist maurizio bianchi - musician cheryl bradley - executive housekeeper ivana brkic - croatian musician richard cameron- dutch musician valerie campbell - mother of naomi campbelltom edur - former nhlice hockey player.
ida e. eisenhower (mother of president eisenhower) leopold engleitner - buchenwald concentration camp survivor and centenarian.
RE: Dwight David Eisenhower
Is not incorrect to include him as a "former Witness" in that he never was one??
Or to put it another way, what proof is there that he's a former Witness?
[ Perhaps the intention was to show some kind of presumed "Witness" influence on him from his mother? ]

is there a letter to the boe that stated that if an elder confessed to having committed a serious sin a number of years ago, (three years or so) and nobody knew about it, he need not be removed?
I'm a bit foggy on the following point but: I seem to recall that the above referenced policy was modified around the time I left (Late 1990's) as it related to pedophilia type sins, modified as in making that particular sin more of a deal-breaker as far as continuing to serve as an Elder/MS, but there were exceptions allowed.

Here's a link to a thread from June of 2001 [started by Jim (Amazing)] that expands on these issues.
The thread is entitled: "WTS Says Elders Sins Don't Count"

wow, i'm asking elders for advice, how strange.
anyway if you want to know my history and where i am look at my first 1/2 dozen or so posts, it'll bring you up to speed.
here's where i need advice.
Wasonce has it right, you've got to focus on the reinstatement and "dance the dance", as per the suggestions. I agree too, about the coments about "status", it makes all the difference in how you're viewed/not viewed.
Best wishes on getting this behind you and doin' the fade.

i never knew this...just found it today.
made me giggle.. payment of sales tax on literatureon 17 january1990 the u.s. supreme court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature.
the following month, a letter from the watchtower society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis.
Abandoned: Yeah, this was something that bothered me as well. All the asking for money seemed unnecessary since the entire universe was in charge. I really can't believe how blind I was to SO MANY ISSUES. I guess when you really want to believe something, you can overlook an awful lot.
So true, so true.
Your comments triggered this thought that's been expressed around here many times: The "Organization" considers itself the paramount thing, that its survival/reputation/financial health is the most important thing in the Witness world. So they are not at all shy about having the rank and file spend their time and money doing things that result in relatively minor benefit to the "Organization", but at relatively great cost to the "brothers".
This "donation arrangement" for the literature is but one example.
