Apart form the widespread suspicion & backbiting that goes on in the 'spiritual paradise', I have also known of many, many cases where an individual or cliques have became terribly jealous of another JW/JW couple etc, for whatever reason. Examples are bountiful.

PS - just read the email reply. Only a Jehovah's Witness could utter the words, in relation to a newborn etc, "it was nice but also sad". Christ almighty, can they hear themselves?

After kindly explaining to her your reasons why, I would tell her to get lost. Mother? This has got to be some sort of joke. I genuinely have pity for your situation. Horible.

UK: Channel 4 - Cutting Edge The End is Nigh broadcast around late 1997
by truthseeker in.
any of you in the uk remember watching a cutting edge documentary on jehovahs witnesses, entitled, "the end is nigh?".
it would have aired around late 1997.. it was about the lives of two couples, one a fitness instructor's courtship with a brother who was a programmer, and the other about a sister who left the truth and came back, eventually getting baptized.. the congregation involved was the abingdon congregation, located in oxford.

Remember it being a car crash as far as JW's were concerned. The scene with the lass bringing his tea out to the car because they couldn't be in the house alone made me shit myself. God, I'm so glad I don't need to defend this crap anymore.

was anyone ever told they would have been stoned to death by an elder?
by looloo ini was when i had an affair , but this elders pioneer daughter told me she understood why i had done it , i was feeling dreadfull and so guilt ridden but he said i should through myself at my hubs feet and beg forgiveness from him and had i lived 2000 years ago i would have been stoned to death !
the strange thing is a few years later this elder told me he had feelings for me , but he was married and old enough to be my dad , although i liked him as a person by then and had forgotten what he had said to me about being stoned to death, i was a bit annoyed that he told me not to tell anyone ,and yet was telling other people to tattle tale on others , i know he felt really bad about his feelings though and i did feel sorry for him , but asked him not to visit anymore as it made me feel guilty towards his wife , maybe it was gods way of getting him to see things from a wrong doers point of view ,as he had a reputation for being very harsh on wrong doers (like myself) maybe he makes a better elder nowadays after that insight , or maybe they think i was sent by satan to seduce a pioneer and an elder !

My life - A brief history. Part 1
by Galileo inthis post has gotten quite long so i decided to break it up into at least two sections.
i hope it doesnt come across as rambling.
i should start with a confession: it was my smurf that walked out of the kingdom hall in the early 80's.

Can we all be a bit more pro-active in this one area? PLEASE READ...
by jambon1 inthis is something that i feel really passionate about.
i hate being labeled an apostate by jw's.
i don't like the term and even they themselves have the definition wrong according to the bible.

Avi; I will read through that later & it seems an interesting thread. I am advocating using the term ex-jw in conversation with JW's because I have found that it has an astounding effect. Rather than telling you that "I will not listen to apostate propaganda", they seem more willing to listen to what you have discovered whilst talking with "other ex-jw's just like me". I find it works.

I observe that a great many JW's seem to be very unhappy people. The constant negative teachings about the 'wickedness' & depravity in the world makes the average JW feel very insecure & unsettled. Who to trust, who to speak to, etc, etc. Add to that the fact that they are even suspicious of each other. It doesn't make for a healthy outlook. The 'do more, do more' mentality is another factor in people being unhappy & depressed. Even when I speak to JW's now, I am astounded at their negativity toward most things in life. I was never really happy as a JW. When I left I became more satisfied with my role in life. That is worth the hassle of leaving the org. 2 years ago i was going through a tough time leaving the org. Now, it seems a million miles away. Happiness reults from leaving the ultra negative WTS.

This is something that I feel really passionate about. I hate being labeled an apostate by JW's. I don't like the term and even they themselves have the definition wrong according to the bible. It is an extreemly loaded word as far as JW's are concerned & it is effective in stopping JW's considering certain peoples experiences & opinions. So the next time a JW tells you that you are reading 'apostate' websites/books or that you are yourself an 'apostate', can we tell them that the websites etc are merely the opinions & experiences of ex-JW's. Literally using that expresion has helped me discuss matters with JW's. In their mind, they are more willing to listen to you after giving this brief description/explanation of those whom you have came into contact with in the EX-JW world. Anyone else feel that this is effective?

Did Your Mom and Dad Tell You " I Love You " Growing Up - and as an Adult?
by flipper inthree simple but very powerful words .
my son and i working together last night on my jobs talked about this very subject.
i told him that although my witness mom was always affectionate , and tells me and my siblings she loves us , my elder father has only told me that he loves me once or twice , if that - my entire life.

My mum & dad never said it mauch at all but I knew that they loved me. It may have been a generation thing. I am literally so emotional when it comes to my own kids. Sometimes I can just look at them & I feel like crying. I just love them so much. I always kiss them both, a lot, each day & tell them that I love them. I would like to think that we will always be close.
