God, those pesky VHS recorders. I love how the positives of suchlike things amount to one paragraph of about 33 words. The dangers however............

I can understand that you are in an awkward position at the moment. You are obviously well intentioned in relation to your family & this may work out. I really hope it does. However, I wouldn't bank on the members of the congregation being in wonderment about the holy spirit & it's role in appointing elders. From my experience, it is one of those areas which is easily explained away. I have even had people tell me that certain (evil, hideous) elders WERE appointed by holy spirit so that god can put peoples faith to the test. What can you achieve with this sort of mindset? I wish you well. Please keep us posted.

'Even when they see us on the ministry yet don't answer the door; they know who we are. That is a witness in itself'. In actual fact, they are simply wanting to avoid a conversation with a religious nut job.

I have to say that was one of the most compeling life stories I have ever read. That because it summed up a great deal of my feelings & observations about the truth. For instance (& not entirely your experience), I was that ministerial servant who was giving 'good talks' & wondering how the brothers would feel about my atheism & utter disdain for religion. How would they feel about my drinking 3 bottles of wine per week, in addition to a few half bottles of whiskey & a good few packs of beer? Also, your conversations with my wife were similar. Even now after 2 years when we talk in a calm and logical manner, I can see in her eyes that she views my coherant, logical opinions on the bible/religion/WTS as the devils voice. How frustrating that is. I wish you well in your future.

Remember the "last warning for Babylon the Great" WT series of four?
by kitten whiskers ini remember a series of four watchtowers that we "zealously" placed to issue the "final warning to babylon the great".
they all had pictures (if i remember correctly) of the harlot in revelation.
i think the pictures were all taken from the revelation climax book.

They had a few pictures of some slut drinking wine & riding a wild animal. It doesn't really mean that much to your average person on the street, does it? JW's are terrible for thinking that their pronouncements actually mean something to people, en mass. They reach a very small number of the human race with their bullshit. Thank alistair for that!

JW nostalgia?
by R.Crusoe inlots of 'worldly humans look back with affection and positive emotion at their past life and loves and adventures!
this is especially true for periods in life humans have often devoted themselves to!.
it is lovely to see and hear ones with natural experiences and happiness to relate!.

There were happy times as a JW. Yet, as I look back at what I could have been enjoying when I declined all non-JW contact, it makes me angry. Angry that I put up with so much shit in the cong & at the same time lost out on some cherished family memories. Also, My JW experience screwed my brain for a while. The good times are unfortunately overshadowed by that.

What do you do when you exit and your wife stays in?
by Quirky1 ini have recently left the wts and almost have my da letter ready to send.
my wife is still in and is higly upset by my stand.
she is afraid she'll lose her parents because they are still jw's and refuses to leave the wts, she still beleives it.

Wecome mate! You will undoubtedly put your relationship under strain. After 2 years, things have only evened out for my wife & I recently. We have had some very rough times. Actually, I can't see any method of leaving which would avoid this. The fact is that your wife & indeed yourself will want to talk about your stand/views. Talking about the org to an active jw ALWAYS leads to heated exchanges in my opinion. So, it is best to eventually let things lie & say very little about it. After a long time, my wife has accepted my lifestyle & my views on the org. It has taken a long, long time though. Good luck with it. Best, J.

Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(
by reniaa ini've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!
i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.
they said to me "be happy you are in reality now and enjoy it" and i thought "well if this is reality i've had enough of it".

Welcome! "Warm hearted witnesses"? They believe that 6 billion people deserve to die so that THEY can enjoy a 'paradise earth'. Doesn't sound too warm hearted to me. In fact, it sounds selfish in the extreem. It's sad that you have had so many negative experiences in the world. Personally, I found better friends in the world. However, you must decide what is right for you. You will always be welcome to share your experiences here. Stay & learn! Best wishes, J.
