They have necessarily backed off the 1975 date, but the End must occur during the lifetime of people who still remember the earthly events of 1914. With the rapidly thinning ranks of such oldsters, the Witnesses confront an increasingly troublesome, self-imposed and absolute deadline. —By Richard N. Ostling. TIME Magazine Articles on Jehovah's Witnesses
by Wild_Thing inhas anyone ever posted about the tons of time magazine articles about the jws?
time has been around forever and has been a 'witness' (pardon the pun) to much of their history .. clear back to the 1930s.
go to the time website and search for yourself!

What emotions were you feeling as you started reading the posts on JWD?

i was an elder and had just left bethel.
i didn't want to believe what i was reading especially from current and former elders.

I felt relieved that I wasnt wicked and that others (many), felt the same way as me. Then just plain angry that people have went through so much in this org. It is a bit different from he 'identifying mark' that we were taught existed. The religion is an illusion.

Mate, again I will say that your thoughts are like a mirror of mine.
It is a very hard thing to heal after the org. I think it is much, much harder if you have all/most of the family in.
I wish you well in everything and I am was so sorry to hear about what your brother and his kids.
Best wishes pal,

Look mate, why dont you take your head out from your own arse and realise that you are indeed clutching at straws yet again.
I believe that many people are leaving the truth at the moment because they feel depressed, weighed down and generally unhappy. This may not be this case in your little location but it sure as hell is over here and in may other places.
Not only that but those 'active publishers' are all onto a good thing. Doing route calls, sitting in the car talking and eating donuts. Most 'active publishers' that I know do this brain numbing work simply to keep up appearances. A simple token service to the cong/people/WTS. If they really believed the truth then they would all be out special pioneering instead of building buisinesses and driving mercs and beamers.
Now phuck off and stop being a bad witness by associating with us bad apostates (JW label).

Living with family who believe that you deserve to die
by jambon1 ini always had a problem with the idea that everyone except jw`s deserves to die at armageddon.
i used to think; "what about all the really nice people?
mrs so and so, my magazine call.

I always had a problem with the idea that everyone except JW`s deserves to die at armageddon. I used to think; "what about all the really nice people? Mrs so and so, my magazine call. Or my workmate Bobby who works hard and loves his family". Do all these nice people really deserve to die?
Obviously I now view people properly. I love people and see the good that is in most of humanity.
My view of myself has improved. I have no feelings of guilt or low feelings of self worth that are so common among many JW`s. Not that I am full of myself. I just like myself in ways that I never could as a JW. But isnt it hard to live with family who still feel that you deserve to die at armageddon?
I am an honest person. I am pretty decent. I love my kids and work hard to provide for them. I treat others nicely and with respect. But why cant my family see this? Why cant they take pride in me or my achievements? Why do they believe that the world would be a better place without me? Why would they 'praise jah' for his murderous act against me? Why do they feel that this 'god' would be fully justified and correct to bring my life to a sudden an abrupt end?
Doesnt it get to you? How do you deal with it?
Best,
J

What the hell are they thinking?
by JeffT ina couple of threads about recent watchtower articles as made me wonder what they're thinking when they are writing them for a magazine that is supposed to be for preaching purposes.
i tried to put myself in the mind of somebody that didn't know much about jehovah's witnesses.
the stuff on weddings would have been weird at best, and the recent articles aimed at parents whose children leave the wt must strike normal people as down right creepy.

I have thought this myself after reading the material you mentioned. It is astounding. I concur with the poster who said that the look of disbelief on a worldly person face was enough to make me think seriously about the kind of utter bullshit I was parroting from the WTS. When you are not trying to defend the beliefs or you take a look at things outside the box, the whole religion is just, well, creepy!

JW's speak about the method used to kill people at armageddon
by jambon1 injust how is it all going to happen?
i mean, you dont have to be a friggin rocket scientist to work out the logistics of 6 billion+ corpses on the face of the earth!
to be honest, i know its a lot of bullshit but it intrigues/angers me to think back to some of the ludicrous converstaions i overheard regarding the murder of 6 billion+ people in the 'near' future.

I remember being out in field service and if a particular person at the door was mean someone would say "their day is coming" or "they will get what's coming to them". They seemed smug about the comment too.
Such @rseholes eh?
