This is extreemly sad. I hope that the lass was truely convinced her religion is the true one. How anyone can be 'this sure' is beyond me. It always makes me wonder what the JW elder says at the funeral of people who die as a result of refusing blood. Filth!

How many years before you left did you realise it was not the truth?
by jambon1 ini was only in for 10 years.
however, i never feel that i 100% believed it all, even at the point of baptism.. i think after the initial period of 'love' shown on the part of the brothers, i must have only been a baptised brother for about 4 years when i knew it was all wrong on so many different levels.. i remember a sister saying to me "once they have got you under the water, that's when you see the real way they treat you".
it all changed after baptism.

I remember a sister saying to me "once they have got you under the water, that's when you see the real way they treat you". She was right. It all changed after baptism. I was more aware of the politics, the gossiping, the immorality, etc, etc.
And that's not to mention the way I was treated by those in 'respected' positions.
So for me, 6 years of torture! Toward the end it was unbearable. Knowing it was just a lot of b/s, yet sticking it out for various reasons.
So, how about you?

Never.
This forum was my help and my stay even as a lurker for the last few years of my time in the org. To find a set of people that confirmed that I wasn't the only one who had the same doubts gave me a massive sense of relief and courage.
I may not post a lot, but I feel that I will always make a valuable contribution to the board when I can.
If my comments help even a few people then I am pleased.

What positive aspects do you find about being a JW in the past?
by tooktheredpill ina couple of days ago, i posted a comment for a newbie like me (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/145459/2623555/post.ashx#2623555), and i told him this:.
i try to focus in the few positive aspects of being a jw, and how that can help me to improve myself.
i like to help people too, and that is something that i really enjoy.

Welcome to the board. I gained a lot of social confidence due to a few years of pioneering. However, the time when I was at the point of suicide and the post-traumatic stress that has all come as a result of being a JW kind of negates any 'benefits'. I could have possibly gained social confidence in any other form of activity and not had the JW baggage to deal with.

Did you have "a personal relationship to Jehovah"?
by Awakened07 inremember how it was always stressed how important it was to "have a personal relationship to jehovah"?
that those who got disfellowshipped or disassociated themselves because of what members of the org.
had said or done, or failed doctrine etc., wouldn't have done so "if they only had had a close, personal relationship to jehovah"?

How can you have a relationship with someone you can't see? Religions strangest concept.

What the hell is the MATTER with these people?
by mkr32208 ini work nights so when i get off i'll run by walmart to grab something to make for breakfast or just if i need something or whatever.
this morning at 6:55 (i know because i looked at my watch) a little black girl maybe 7 years old came up to me by herself to offer me a tract... i mean come on it's still full freaking dark out and this poor little kid is handing out tracts alone.
i asked her "where are your parents.

Fair enough. It does, sometimes. But in the process of argument after argument you get weary.
