  Brilliant book on Brainwashing

  i recently finished the book brainwashing - the science of thought control by kathleen taylor (oxford university press inc., new york, 2004).

  this presents an excellent summary of current research into the biology and psychology of the brain and identifies how organizations use this for the purposes of control.

  it discusses well known research such as by lifton and festinger, but also goes into a lot of scientific research into the biology of the brain.

  It seems to me that once you realize that one or more "tributaries" is completely bunk, then the rest run dry pretty quickly.

  i think i heard the word "intellectual" for the first time when i was less than ten years old.. my grandmother said to me that the presidential candidate for the democratic party (adalai stevenson) was an "intellectual".. the way she said the word...the timbre of her voice...the look of admiration on her face...led me to believe this was a good thing indeed!.

  i think i may have asked her what the word meant, but, i don't recall exactly what she told me.

  perhaps enough to confirm that this fellow stevenson was a "thinker" of admirable stature.. fast forward.. by the time my teen years came along there was a kind of dichotomy in society between so-called "eggheads" and common folk.

  06/01/2008 - every significant internet provider around the globe is currently in talks with access and content providers to transform the internet into a television-like medium: no more freedom, you pay for a small commercial package of sites you can visit and you'll have to pay for seperate subscriptions for every site that's not in the package.

  what can we do?internet providers have realized that the only way to not lose massive amounts of customers over this is to make sure there are no alternatives, that's why all major internet providers are currently making agreements and planning to switch simultaneously somewhere in the year 2012. this is currently all going on under very strict nda's (non-disclosure agreements) because the last thing they want is the masses speaking out against it.

  How can JW's sit in a bar among a bunch of, let's say, worldlier worldlings, watch a UFC fight, and then go to the KH the next day and mentally integrate themselves into a group that believes that any day now god is going to kill everybody on the earth except them?

  Did God really warn mankind before the Flood of Noah?

  jw's think they are doing a work just like noah did before the flood.

  they say that noah's witness lasted for 40 years.

  other than a few traders who moved around, i doubt that most tribal people would be able to safely travel to see noah's work in progress.

  The WTS and those of its ilk build a mountain of evidently's and apparently's off of Peter's description of Noah as being a "preacher of righteousness" (2 Pet 2:5). But there's nothing whatsoever in the Genesis account that supports the idea of a Worldwide Preaching Work™ that took place before the flood came.

  The following is taken from an article in Good News magazine that seems so Watchtowerish in its presentation and content that you have to wonder if the writer used a WT article as his model. Note the use of the words "likely" and "surely" - LOL

  As the crowds gathered to observe this landlocked monstrosity, they likely jeered, perhaps asking, "What's your problem, Noah? Why do you need such a giant boat? And how are you ever going to get this thing to the water?" He surely told them, as God does not bring such judgment as was coming without revealing it through His servants. But the onlookers refused to believe.
