That modified version of the passage from Job is a classic.
Really though, I imagine that a lot of JW's read this and roll their eyes. I attended three congregations when I was a JW, and each one had a Sister Over-the-top like our Colombia Wendy here. They were generally looked upon with a mixture of amusement and admiration by the rest of the cong.

Michael Chang was always enjoyable to watch. Very scrappy player, never gave up on a point. Nadal reminds me of him.

COMMENTS YOU WILL NOT HEAR AT THE WT STUDY 09-07-08 (HOUSE TO HOUSE MINISTR
by Mary in" (this would harmonize with matt 10:9 that tells them not to take any money with them).
" the interpretation of the acts of the apostles, 1961, pp.120-21.
it became evident, however, that further personal training in the house-to-house ministry was needed.

Nice job Mary.
if you ignore their usage of the phrase "house to house", there is still no evidence that ALL first century Christians were evangelizers. In fact, the scriptures make it quite clear that only some of them had this gift:
"...And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelizers, some as shepherds and teachers..." Ephesians 4:11I'm glad you noted this. How many JW's feel endless guilt and shame and Armageddon-destruction-worthy because they *gasp* find it extremely awkward to preach to strangers and hence report low or no hours (and what an entirely unscriptural farce the reporting of hours is, but that's a subject for a different day).
16. The time may well come when the message we declare is like" a great war cry." In the book of Revelation, powerful judgment messages are pictured as "a great hail with every stone about the weight of a talent.'" And Revelation 16:21 states: "The plague of it was unusually great." Just what role the house-tohouse ministry will play in the proclaiming of those climactic judgment messages remains to be seen. But we can be sure that before "the great tribulation" is finished, Jehovah's name will have been made known as never before in human history.-Rev. 7:14; Ezek. 38:23.
This is an interesting paragraph. I remember one bro (a very studious and intelligent feller, always trying to discern 'which way the slave was leaning') telling me that at some point, the preaching work would change and that instead of going door-to-door to find potential converts, instead a "judgment message" would be preached, something like "you had your chance, and now it's too late". I didn't know where he got that from but the above paragraph certainly hints at such a thing. It's like they're waiting for some sign or another to initiate such a campaign.

What do you feel is the reason the WTS succeeds in retaining its members?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmost of my family have been members since the early 1970's.they attend 3 meetings per week, fly or drive to summer assemblies, preach the average 10 hours per month, and read the same boring watchtower magazine week after week.
the congregation has lost nearly all the young teens, many have quit attending all the meetings, some divorced, and some members just going thru the motions.
i'm never going to question them on why they still remain members but shouldn't all the promises of "this generation never dying" make them question the wts.... just a little?

There's your answer. JW's put so much time and effort into their religion, it is unthinkable to them that they have made such an enormous time investment into a fraudulent, worthless cause. A lot of people simply can't handle that kind of shock, and they do everything in their power to avoid the possibility of it.

Palin in a Youtube video speaking to her Pentacostal church. ZEALOT ALERT
by Wasanelder Once inhere's a video of gov.
palin in her prime.
this was two months ago as she spoke to her pentacostal church in wassilla.

well in her opinion, Palin acted like a ditzy college student.
She is plainly immature and not statesmanlike in any way shape or form. McCain might as well have asked Ann Coulter to be his running mate.

Bethel Tour - What a Joke
by tresdecu ini had to laugh (internally of course), i was over at a friends house and he was showing me pics of a bethel trip they took sometime in the spring.
pic 1...a bunch of people (the tourists) in suits walking through a (seeming empty-ish) warehouse with goofy smiles on their faces.
(oh boy a warehouse!

Oh wow! Big industrial printing equipment and pallets stacked high with boxes of BOOKS and MAGAZINES! WHAT A THRILL!
I too find it odd that the WTS would organize a vatican tour. Did they forget that the UN is going to attack it any day now? Oh, wait, I forgot, nobody in JW-land *really* believes that shit. -

I'm missing Firefox 3.0's "Smart Bar" though. I love that feature! I hope that they incorporate something like that into Chrome.

Study shows more violence in religious societes
by dawg insince no one bothered to read in my last thread how secular societies have lower rates of violence and teenage pregnancy than societies where many people profess belief in god.
i figured i'd give those among us who are religious the benefit of the doubt that the post was lost in the haze of the argument.
so, i thought i'd post it again here.

It's very rare that you can find a society that is free from religion.
White Europeans have become all but entirely secular. But, the birth rate among them is not enough to sustain the population. Freedom from religion comes with a price - an awareness of the maddening pointlessness of life, and hence little desire to reproduce.

Not a well-known example or one that's even easy to find, but I love the Pat Metheny cover of Third Stone from the Sun that appeared on a Hendrix tribute album from the 1990's titled Stone Free.
Crash Course in Brain Surgery by Metallica is another fave of mine. I loved that punk covers Garage Days thing they did back around '87. -

Annoying trend in TV commercials...
by Gregor inhave you noticed how it seems that the tactic of making commercials deliberately annoying is becoming popular?
i'm sure you can think of a commercial or two that quickly becomes like fingernails on a chalkboard.
that is why they are produced and repeated over and over, they accomplish the purpose of getting your attention and causing you to remember them.

Dinah, the worst ones are where they try to work in the side-effects warnings into the actual script instead of the voice-over, and so the actors try to make it sound like a natural discussion. UGH!
