OSU managed to land QB Terrell Prior, one of the most sought after recruits in the country, but after the last two National Championship games and now this, the elite high school athletes are going to start laughing at Jim Tressel when he comes calling. Rats. We'll see about Wisconsin and Penn State. I hear Joe Pa is coach in name only these days.

NOVEMBER 1 WATCHTOWER - DOES IT SAY THAT NON DUBS MAY BE SAVED?
by BluesBrother ina certain witness, kind of close to me,is insistent that this article confirms her conviction that the wt teaches that jehovah will judge hearts at the "end" and both j w's and non j w's may be saved ....i say that it teaches the opposite.
what do you think?
how do you read it?.

"Cooperate with the Savior" - iow, Jehovah's Witnesses.
Matthew 7:21 - cited or quoted extensively in WT publications to bolster their claims of exclusivity.
3 Requirements - More coded talk for, salvation depends on becoming a JW's.
"...those who will be saved loyally support God's Kingdom and teach others about it..." - again, who could they possibly be referring to besides JW's. -

WHERE WERE YOU 7 YEARS AGO?
by Mary inguess i'll be the first one to do an (inevitable) thread about 9-11. hard to believe it's been 7 years already.
i was at work when one of my co-workers came up and told me that a plane had hit the world trade center.
i thought it was awful, but i figured it was a small single engine plane that maybe lost its way in the fog.

I was at home getting ready for work. Turned on the tube and Matt Lauer was interviewing somebody in the studio, and then he interrupted the interview to cut to the breaking story. At that point the details were really sketchy.
I was still in da twoof at the time, just barely. I remember talking to a bro about it on the phone, how horrible it was, how we both wished we could go to NYC and help out in some way. It struck me as odd that here we both felt bad for all the people that died and that were suffering, but at the same time we were both firmly indoctrinated in an end-times mentality where we were supposed to 'hold our heads high because our salvation is near' when such things happened. -

The Rich&Famous JWs WT Dilemma
by frankiespeakin inas we all know the wt has a special way of treating famous jws, becuase it puts them squarely on the horns of a dilemma.
on the one hand they have angry jws that can't understand the wt societies laxity, and if the wt does df the worldy people see the wt as demented old self righteous christians.. i found this site that talks about famous jws and makes this observation better than i can:.
http://www.adherents.com/people/pj/michael_jackson.htmlyou might wonder why this is so interesting to me.

I don't know what congregation is their "home" congregation. I don't know how often either of them even goes to the KH. Did they pop into any meetings at any of the congs in Flushing over these past few weeks of the US Open? I imagine they probably did: a quick duck-in at the start of the meeting and a quick duck-out after it was over. The four major tournaments means that they likely aren't in any one place for too long.
Who is going to be elder to confront them over their Olympic involvement, and sexy photos, and for carrying the idolatrous flag? Who is going to be the JC to put either of these two 'out on their ear', and dry up what is (again, likely, as this is all so much speculation) a significant revenue stream for the WTS? And think of the headlines: "Williams Sisters ousted from Jehovah's Witnesses for participating in Olympics". That will neverhappen. These two have a free pass as long as they don't do anything too outrageous. Kinda sickening, considering all the ticky-tack disfellowshippings that occur every day in JW land. It would bother my conscience like hell if I were them, knowing that I was getting away with shit that gets other JW's disfellowshipped in a heartbeat. But then again, they did grow up attending a congregation in Compton CA didn't they? I've read on this board that the poor black JW congs aren't so big on enforcing all the rules, so maybe they don't realize just how special the treatment they're getting is.

I play in a family-only league that my sister organizes every year. Talk about something to bring out your worst OCD tendencies.
Guess who I drafted for my starting QB? Yep, Brady. Now I've gotta rely on Kurt Warner, a guy who can put up great numbers but who also has had his share of poor performances in his career. We'll see. -

Annoying trend in TV commercials...
by Gregor inhave you noticed how it seems that the tactic of making commercials deliberately annoying is becoming popular?
i'm sure you can think of a commercial or two that quickly becomes like fingernails on a chalkboard.
that is why they are produced and repeated over and over, they accomplish the purpose of getting your attention and causing you to remember them.

The numerous and often bizarre side effects warnings in prescription drug commercials remind me of that SNL "Happy Fun Ball" TV commercial parody from the early 1990's. I think it was one of Phil Hartman's many brilliant contributions to that show:

COMMENTS YOU WILL NOT HEAR AT THE WT STUDY 09-07-08 (HOUSE TO HOUSE MINISTR
by Mary in" (this would harmonize with matt 10:9 that tells them not to take any money with them).
" the interpretation of the acts of the apostles, 1961, pp.120-21.
it became evident, however, that further personal training in the house-to-house ministry was needed.

I sometimes wonder if people would still be interested if they had to pay to study with the WTS?
I think the Scientologists have cornered that market. :)
