What TV Shows Do You Think Are Overrated or Simply Not That Good?
by minimus ini used to love boston legal.
now i think it's utterly ridiculous!
too too wacky for me.. the steve wilkos show is too much of steve screaming at child molesters and wife beaters!

Friends - ugh. I have no patience for comedies about beautiful, impeccably dressed, impeccably-furnished-and-oh-so-trendily-decorated-apartment-dwelling urban singles living seemingly responsibility-free lives.
Law and Order - the dialog kills me. People don't converse in that staccato way!
The Office - Michael has said/done some things that made me laugh as hard as I've ever laughed at anything, but the romantic will-they-won't-they buildup between Pam and Jim that they've tried to make a selling point of the show ruins it for me. Jim is smug and he reminds me way too much of a former coworker that I disliked greatly. And Pam is no great catch.
M*A*S*H - I've been a captive audience to a couple of reruns recently due to my not having possession of the remote, and that show just plain wasn't funny.
That 70's show - the appeal eludes me entirely.
My Name is Earl - don't tell my sister that I don't think it's funny, ever. -

What Makes a Person Vulnerable to Join a Cult ? By Steve Hassan
by flipper inmost of us often wonder with amazement how we ever got caught up in the jehovah's witnesses mind control after having been out for awhile.
and we still wonder how some of our relatives stay trapped inside it.
well, steve hassans book " releasing the bonds " explains briefly in chapter 4 how it can happen.

1. First reason is there is a pervasive lack of awareness about cults and mind control. In talk shows an interviewer will ask a cult member, " Are you brainwashed ? " And of course they will answer , " No ". What the host fails to realize is that the mind controlled member will not know that he has surrendered copntrol until he is able to step away from the group and learn about cult recruitment and indoctrination. "
Prior to my becoming involved with JW's, my imaginings of cults was that they were these shadowy groups with strange rituals and secret compounds who kidnapped prospective members and held them captive over a period of weeks or months, during which time torture and isolation would be used to break the recruit down psychologically, and then the recruit would be built back up according to the ways of the cult. I had no idea that mind control could be far more subtle than that.2. " Second, many situations make people more vulnerable to recruitment. A person whose parents have recently separated or divorced will be more likely to listen to a recruiter who describes his group as " one big happy family . " Someone whose romantic relationship or marriage has just ended will be more susceptible to come-ons by an attractive person. Other common variables include : death of a loved one, illness, loss of a job, graduation ( from high school or college ) , and moving to a new location. Situational vulnerabilities occur in everyone's life. It is easy to see how people tend to be more vulnerable to an attractive recruiteroffering community, love and meaning during such episodes. "
Two of the above were true - broken family, and high school graduation. A lot of kids experience the divorce of their parents, but with mine the dynamic of it was pretty extreme as my mom (who got custody of me) really flipped out over it for a number of years. It was a very bad, very dysfunctional scene.3. " Thirdly , some individuals have psychological profiles that make recruitment easier for cults. People pleasers, who seek the approval of their peer group out of insecurity, and anyone with low self esteem, will be more vulnerable to the peer pressure exerted by cult recruiters. Individuals with learning disorders, drug or alcohol problems, unresolved sexual issues ( sexual identity orientation or, possibly, past rape or molestation trauma ) ,pre-existing phobias, and other unresolved traumatic issues will also be easier targets. Cults seek out such vulnerabilities and use them against recruits , often making grandiose claims that their group will solve all of the person's problems .
Hmmm...definitely approval seeking and insecure...i don't know if i have any learning disorders, although I've occasionally wondered if I might be somewhere on the very high-functioning end of the autism spectrum as I have quite a bit of that sort of thing in my family and I've had many embarrassing blunders that I attribute in part to a lack of social awareness. I smoked a lot of wiid back in the day too, and again this isn't something that affects everybody the same way, but I would probably have been better off if i had never put a joint to my lips, lol. -

The new Ice Age Cometh!

i hope this link works but there has been virtually no sunspot activity since the beginning of this year and the suns magnetic field is down 60%.. if this link does not work, you might like to try googling: sunspot activity 2008 iceage.. the last time this happened we moved into a little ice age which lasted from 1100 to 1800.. global warming lies may well have met their match with reality.. so how will they tax us for the 'ice age?
do we get our tax back that we paid because of 'global warming'.. is this why they have made fuel so expensive....because they know what is coming and they want to make a killing?.

If I understand correctly, the "concensus" that is being referred to here is the belief that more than half of the warming of the past 50 years has anthropogenic causes, not the belief that the warming has anything at all to do with human activity (just to clarify). And so, 45% of the papers either explicity or implicity agree that half+ of the warming is due to human activity, and 48% are neutral to this claim.
LOL that was funniest thing I've read in a while. Anthropogenic in fact, refers to byproducts of human activity!! Sometimes is better to use simple everyday English than make a use of resounding terms just to make it look pretty, cause you can easily get stuck...
Zagor, I think you must be misunderstanding what I wrote - by "anthropogenic" I did mean "by-products of human activity". My point was this: the concensus that the politician was referring to in the 539 published papers is in regards to the belief that more than half of the warming of the past 50 years is related to human activity, but was presented as if the concensus was on the issue of whether human activity has had anything at all to do with it. Does that make more sense? I think we're on the same side of the issue here.

Biden got to me
by smellsgood ini was all aboard the mccain train.
but seeing sarah palin generally spew the same accusations which had been refuted or put into context, reaaalllly bugged the hell out of me.. its odd, because i've seen biden and i'd gotten the impression (which remains true of him) that he was a longwinded, pedantic old geezer.. besides that, i need specifics, i'm not interested in fluffy vague generalized statements, i need precision, facts.
the thing that got me the most is finally i am hearing about intervention in darfur, sudan.

Somebody please tell me why people cannot see the rhetoric coming from her mouth for what it is?
The only way that I can make any sense of it is this: conservatives love and defend her to the end simply because liberals can't stand her. That's all. Nothing else.

Wow...i'm floored...ever since he murdered his wife and got away with it, i've thought that he was one of those slippery devils who by the sheer force of his own impenetrable denial would always be able to weasel his way out of any trouble he found himself in.
Justice served. -

Seven006:
.for those reading this who wonder about the rows of dots in my posts, the computer I post on is a Mac and I am too lazy and not interested enough to jump through all the coding hoops to make it look right for this Mac unfriendly PC coded site
Actually, I think that all you would need to do to at least have separate paragraphs in your posts is to uncheck the "Check here to use HTML formatting" box and check the "Automatic Cr/Lf" box below the Post window. If you do this and use the Enter key to create paragraph breaks, then your submitted post will come out looking the same as you typed it.

While I was a JW, I began to wonder why an omnipotent and all-loving supreme being would have to resort to the weak manipulations of earthly natural causes such as hale, earthquakes, and fire to eliminate life. An omnipotent being could simply "terminate" all life in a nano-second. Therefore, why would this "oh so merciful" and "oh so loving" creator have a need or a desire to resort to such a grandiose and violent theatrical productions?
I had similar thoughts when I was in. A violent death is probably one of the deepest, most instinctual fears that people have though, a fear that apocalyptic religions have mined for paydirt, power and control for eons.
