As far as the thread goes, I'm doing a lot of searching...kinda skeptical towards the whole Christian thing these days - leaning more towards a mystical view of things. The guy who does www.escapefromwatchtower.com has a number of interesting, mystical type quotes on his page. It really isn't much of an 'apostate' site anymore.

i can't stand it.. you would think his people would walk him through correct pronunciation.
His pronouncing nuclear "nookyular" cannot be anything but rehearsed and intentional, which is sad. Kinda like when you hear middle and upper-class black folk say aks instead of ask just because its the black thing to do, not because they really don't know the correct pronunciation.
His speech was full of subliminable messages, which I didn't care for either...

Many churches preach that baptism is for believers who have made a conscious decision to the Lord, or Jesus, or Jerhover, or Yahweh, or whatever. When I da'd, my boss invited me to her big ol' Baptist church. (I went once, it was enough! I made a bee-line for the exit when the service was over, I almost didn't make it that long.) The day I went, a couple of boys got dunked, I think they were about 11 or 12. Did these boys really have a firm grasp of Christian theology? Would they be able to understand a complex doctrinal treatise written by one of their Baptist theologians? I doubt it. So is there any difference between what they do and what the Catholics do? If there is, it is very minor, imo. Same goes for WT. Baptizing an 11 year old is not much different from baptizing an infant, neither is mature enough to make a decision to dedicate their lives to a certain something. That's why disfellowshipping is such a crime.

has anyone on the board ever joined a cong as an unknown apostate, gained a reputation, and then tried to show certain members the errors in their ways. i'm in a sitation that makes the following hypothetical possible. should i do it...has anyone attemted it? thoughts?
I could see where if they came to your door, you could let them conduct a study with you, and bring up some things that way. But you'd have to be a pretty good actor or else they're gonna be on to you pretty quick. JW's aren't totally stupid.
The going to the KH idea, well, if you could sit through those meetings without either vomiting or laughing uproariously, then more power to ya.

hmmm...maybe I was projecting this reaction some. It didn't take too long after I was baptized for me to start feeling like "what kind of crazy group have I gotten in with?"
One of my big falling-outs with JWs was that I felt so different and excluded from the big-family-all-in-the-troof JWs (which in the U.S. is most of them anymore). I really started to resent these families, they seemed to not care a lick about people like me who were going it alone. It was like they were in a different world, JWs for too long themselves, combined with the fact that all their blood relatives are JWs, a recipe for serious weirdness if ever there was. Their minds are so borgified, it's pathetic.

Did anybody else who converted to JW as an adult experience this? Conversely, to those who were raised, is this really how you felt towards new adult converts at the hall? It is funny, when I converted I was so gung-ho, so "OH MY GOD THIS IS SO WONDERFUL!!!!" That 'honeymoon' reaction (which is typical of JW newbies) must seem pretty funny to a lot of raised-JWs. It was all you could do not to roll your eyes, right?

meetings, association ect for over one year now... we were watching the news,,and pres.
bush was talking about the u.n.. with genuine concern and in all honesty i stated that i did not know how.
LOL at the local needs comment ugg. I'll remember that the next time I start feeling the urge to run back to Mother. How did we sit through that shit for so many years??!!!

If speed is the only thing you can do, then it doesn't. But an extremely fast flurry of notes, played well and at the right time, can be extremely satisfying to listen to. If a guitarist uses speed skillfully and artfully, the speed is purposeful and adds to the emotional impact of the song. Eric Johnson is a perfect example of this. If you've ever heard the outro solo from the song Desert Rose...damn!!
there was talk the other day of "modern day apostates" which made me think back to the pre-internet days at conventions where we used to get leaflets sprung on us by what i then presumed to be apostates.

One of the first apostate books I ever saw was called "Witnesses of Jehovah", it was put out by a group that called themselves (if I remember correctly) the Defenders of the Good News. Could this be what you are referring to?
In answer to the thread question, I have met some "old-time" convention-picketing type apostates since I've left. I think that the people who used to picket those conventions are a mixed group. Some Russellites, some born-agains, a few secular-leaning ex-jws.
