How open are you to new ideas.
by poodlehead inwhen i was a jw, i believed what i was told to believe.
after all it was the truth.
but now i no longer believe that what they were telling me was the truth.

I would sure like to think that I am but, I must admit that I am not the most objective person to critique myself. What's so great about this site, is that we are exposed to so many different points of view and beliefs.

What has this board given to you?
by Crumpet inhaving cooled down a bit in the garden i got to thinking about what this board has given me and wondered what anyone else feels they have gained from it.. for me its been invaluable and even life changing:.
1) freedom from the brainwashing - when i came here i had already read ray franz's books and still believed it jws had the truth - hat i was basically worthless and that i would die at armageddon.
the reasoned conversations and help of the posters from all over the world has enabled me to have freedom of thought - something i didnt even know i didnt have until i spent time here.. 2) friends who empathise and know from an experience what i have been through in a way outsiders can never possiby understand.. 3) entertainment - unbelievable laughs and moments of humour that have cheered me up so many times.. 4) association - via the aposta bbqs and telephone chats i can now have so i don't feel so isolated and to some extent alleviates the awful pain of separation from my loved family.. 5) information - from this board and posters here i have found out things that were my right to know but would never have learnt otherwise - my sisters marriage, my aunts tragic death.. 6) reunions - i have now met at least one person who knows me from my childhood and has grown into a man of such kindness and patience that i would have missed out on completely had he not been here and been kind enough to hold my hand - even when i've been an irritating totured little idiot!.

It was so reassuring to read countless threads by people who had gone through all of the same things I had gone through for so many years (depression, hospitalizations, never feeling like I could do enough, wanting to commit suicide). I always thought that I was the only one. I always blamed myself.
I have been deeply touched by so many of your posts. There are a few of you who have given me personal advice and encouragemetn; which I appreciate very much.
Thank you all for being here for me.

Opposers of Watchtower Society Challenged

My opinion, just walk away from this kind of stuff. Your not really talking to JWs, you are talking to people who are on the fringes of this organization and are hanging on for dear life. It's the honest people on the inside we need to worry about.
I thought Drew made a good point in his above post. Trying to convince people like this that Jerusalem wasn't destroyed in 607 is like trying to convince a Nazi Holocaust denier that the holocaust was real.

but the greatest band ever is still Dream Theater
Hey apfergus, I love Dream Theater! Very few people have ever heard of them. My favorite song by them is Trial of Tears ( I love the live version that was recorded at Budokan)

After 4 years, an introduction (hope it works this time!)
by gwyneth inive been a member of this board for just over four years, and i have never posted an introduction.
i mostly stick to the "fluff" threads, because they are safe.
i wont be attacked for an unpopular point of view, or hurt anyone elses feelings.
