The Garden of Eden account with it's epic tale of a talking snake, and naked people eating fruit should be given the same intrigue as a Harry Potter book or Marvel Comics.

I remember finding a video on the internet that showed a volcanic erruption that was shot by a home video camera. In the video, you could see the smoke billowing out of the side of the mountain and coming toward the camera person at about 200 mph. Just for kicks, I decided to view the video, but pause it about every half of a second. In every still shot, I could make out at least a few faces, skulls, and "devilish" features.
Had a photographer been present; and shot a photo at exactly the right second, they would have been able to capture a good shot of a "demonic" or "devilish" face. And when a tabloid would have printed the picture, several gullible readers would have practically wet their pants and claimed that "the devil" had caused the erruption.

Hi seeker4
Thanks for providing that link to her paintings. Pass along my compliments to her. Those are some really cool paintings. What I like about them is that they are not your typical ocean or prairie scene painting that you see often. Her paintings are very unique, with a uniqe style to them.

1975 "Explained" by a JW
by Honesty inhave you ever thought about the isrealites beginning to enter the promised land and how they then had to turn back and wander in the wilderness for 40 years?
have you ever wondered if there is a modern day parallel in our time?
perhaps 75 was our approach to that promised land that we then had to turn back from and "wander"... .

"Finally, it would not be amiss to conclude that Biblical chronology is the play dough of millenarians. It can be stretched to fit whatever time-table is needed, or it can be reduced to a meaningless mass of dates and figures so that future predictions can be molded out of the original lump."
Didn't Ray Franz also put this quote somewhere in Crisis of Conscience?

Does the Pope have to apologize to the Muslims?
by free2beme ini heard today that the muslims want the pope to apologize, and at the same time i have heard muslims say that even an apology would not be enough.
a world leader of a country, has certain diplomatic concerns about what they say and do.
however, does a religious leader have these same concerns?
-
Arthur
No, I don't think that he should apologize. I don't think that anyone should ever apologize for calling a spade a "spade". Radical Muslim clerics have been using the "death to Zionists" sloganeering for years. They certainly don't apologize for that.
I'm certainly not a fan of the Pope. But, what the Pope said doesn't even come close to the vicious hatred that many mosques have been preaching about Jews and Christians. He was merely stating facts. If anyone is offended by facts; they need to reevaluate their own thinking; not demand that the messenger say "sorry".

LIBERAL world view means somebody has to make a sacrifice of their talent, intelligence, hard work and earnings so that somebody else can benefit who has inferior talent, intelligence and no intention of working or earning.
CONSERVATIVE world view means each individual must learn and earn for themselves. We own our life. We succeed or fail by our own rational plan of improvement or impoverishment.
Well Terry, nothing against you personally; but I respectfully disagree somewhat. First of all, I think that the "liberal" and "conservative" labels are a little bit limited in scope. I don't think that the liberal world view always means a wealth redistribution toward societies and individuals who have no intention of working or earning. A case in point: U.S. aid to Africa. I think that the U.S. aid to Africa (particularly AIDS funding) can and has done much good in improving international relations, as well as helping to jump start local economies, where there would not otherwise be any investment capital pumped into that region. I think that millions in Africa are at the mercy of their regions geo-political ineptitude, corruption, and inability to maintain stability. I don't care how hard working a person is. If there is no economic engine or infrastructure to support the creativity and hardwork of a labor force; there is no way they will be able to survive (particularly in countries run by armed rebels). There can be no free market economy where there is no stable government. This helps explain why many from African nations have been immigrating into Eastern European countries illegally - they are looking for the opportunity to participate and produce in a free economy. I'm not saying that illegal immigration is okay; I'm just pointing out that those who wish to be productive contributors to a free market economy are often at the mercy of a government which does not believe in such.
I also am convinced that there is a huge difference in earning potential between someone born into a multi-millionaire family; and someone born into a poverty-stricken inner city. One can attend an ivy-league university paid for by his parents; the other must struggle like hell just to be able to pay for community college. I think that equal educational funding at the local levels for every student in the U.S. (what some may call "liberal") only makes sense in the preservation of a free market system. I personally believe in a free-market economy. This is why I do not want to see a widening gap between the rich and the poor. This type of society eventually loses it's competitave edge in the world economy, and destablizes the very free enterprise system that I support.
Personally, I don't consider myself either "liberal" or "conservative". My views differ from issue to issue. But I think that many of us can get caught in the trap of "black and white" reasoning when it comes to political views; and particularly what we might consider as either "liberal" or "conservative".
But, I realize that this is just my personal opinion.

Is their a religion that matches our biblical knowledge and experience?
by JH inafter spending years with the witnesses, and the knowledge we have now, is there a religion that matches our biblical knowledge and experience?.
i think that we are way beyond any religion that exists, and that's why we stay out of religion today..

Tough question. There are many variables which you did not address. You better consider all possible angles, and their long-term implications:
Does he want to reach out for MS or Elder? And if so, are you okay with these duties taking time away from you?
How does he feel about you celebrating Christmas? Is he willing to allow you to have Christmas items in the house? What about you celebrating Christmas and Thanksgiving with your family? Will he allow it?
Is his family in the org? If so, how will they view you?
Are you prepared to let him die if he needs a blood transfusion?
Do you fully realize that according to JW theology; he may very well be granted survival into the paradise earth while you (a non-JW) will be executed? How does that sit with you?
Do you and him want kids? If so, will you allow them to be indoctrinated in the religion? How will you feel about them not being able to accept Christmas presents from their grandparents?
If you and him were to have children, would you be willing to let them die if they needed a blood transfusion?
There are many more questions that need to be seriously considered. I have no idea how you feel about all of these things, so there's no way that I could tell you yes or no. But, I hope you are prepared for just the minimal amount of friction that will be created by you not being in "The Truth". Because, even the minimal amount is too much to bear for some people.
