  Could Watchtower Collapse Be Sooner Than You Think?

  there have been a number of developments over the past few months and they paint an interesting picture.. witnesses can keep dragging themselves to meetings ad infinitum however, the future of the watchtower itself is another story.

  the evidence of continuing cash flow problems is now overwhelming.

  if you talk to well placed witnesses, most won't deny it but simply blame it on the publishers financial problems.. they have cut off loans to congregations many of whom genuinely need new kingdom halls.

  Either a collapse or a pretty significant retooling......printed word is not effective anymore, and there has been such a significant blasting of the internet amongst the organization that they have poisoned (at least for the near term) the ability to go with a pretty much all electronic distribution of the mags...who knows what else the people would look at. Maybe they could launch an internet service provider, make it 'God's Official Channel', they could control the content then so the folks could only look at approved information.

  The printed material really is only going to have value in areas that are not blanketed by the internet, many of the global south communites, but in the more advance world, major newspapers filled with pertinent information can not make it anymore, how can one expect that a regurgitated bit of information along with an occasional nugget of nulite is going to do any good.

  Wife and son at the meeting now, at least I have an idea of what they are being 'fed'......I appreciate the ability to read this each week.....I am not sure how close to indoctrination the wife is now, she was online reading about Jesus Christ last night, also looking at the insight book.....also she is still pretty easily distracted from her wt studying....

  This Disturbs Me Most of All

  no, it's not the "claw hand"!

  what disturbs me most of all is the potter's shards.. any coin collector will tell you that the "imperfect" coins are the most valuable.

  any art historian will tell you that the value of a painting is it's originality and uniqueness and the talent that can only come with time, suffering, and perserverence.. it is the oddities and quirks in one of a kind pieces that make them a delight and a treasure.. so why is it that this potter has no appreciation for uniqueness?

  Where does one draw the line on whether the origins of a practice make it acceptable?

  ok, am very confused:.

  honeymoons and wedding rings, based in paganism, ok for a jw to do.. windchimes, once prohibited due to the intent to ward off evil spirits, ok for a jw to have.. pinatas, once prohibited due to origin, now since folks do not associate the fun with a pinata, ok for a jw to do.. wedding anniversaries, not sure if they are formally addressed in the bible, ok for a jw to do.. birthdays, two bad examples in the bible plus some stories how originally celebrated by the wealthy (choose to ignore job 1 - job 3 when a persons special day is celebrated), not ok for a jw to do (have not been at a birthday party ever where someone was beheaded).

  thanksgiving, actually a basis in the old testament for a celebration of the harvest, not ok for jws to do.

  So let me see if I get this right, the body of elders seems to have some pretty good power for creating additional restrictions on the members, as long as there is not a conflict with the printed word. But in basically any case, the newest light of the printed word is all but equivalent to the word of Jehovah......

  you can go to the CO and/or DO or the GB and many times they will defer to the body of elders.

  How about in situations where there is something printed in the 'bible based literature', would the body of elders then follow the printed word (at least the newest light of the printed word)?

  Martial Arts - what is the present stance of the WTS

  i have read before that the wts is against the martial arts....i do not have a wts cd, so was wondering if there is any wts literature to support this?.

  Needing to get my facts straight on this and you all have helped immensely!!!!

  If my son were to tell the gentleman running his bible study about his participation in the martial arts, what sort of answer could he expect.....I would suspect a bunch of fluff because they right now would not want to paint the negative and controlling aspects of the WTS.....any ideas?

  So what would take precedence to an individual member who is 'fully in the truth', what the local congregation states or what is in the publications.....

  Would a good JW listen to the 'higher authority', that higher authority being the GB, and how much of this variance is vetted through the CO?

  The idea is to isolate kids from an early age so they do not fit in and have no support system outside the witnesses.

  I can see that logic.......if a kid is kept away from the fun stuff and only sees the witness stuff, that will be their only frame of reference.....great point

  origin should not matter AT ALL if the origin is no longer considered or even thought of in modern times

  That is what really confuses me...is in some cases origin is used as a precedent (birthdays is the most obvious example...) and in other cases it is not considered at all (wedding rings, honeymoons, pinatas, windchimes). And then there are situations like Thanksgiving.....I have no clue about that except for it may take from the ministry.....
