Sure seems to be the way things are going, and there are so many lemmings being led over the cliff with the thought of "living forever on paradise earth", I thought Enron was bad, this is worse because it is all being done in the name of Jehovah.

A 'Screw the Publishers' GB Strategy?
by metatron inwhile a man might hold a particular office, there is no guarantee that his personal faith will continue.
there are a number of older.
brothers , at bethel and elsewhere, who quietly hold to a 'it's a good life' view of the 'truth' - as opposed to the blind zombie-faith of.

Could it be a concern with too many ears and voices at Bethel leaking what is going on? That plus the savings in insurance costs and then being able to purge some real estate cause not as many people to board. Seems to be mainly financial, with a link to legal as well, but heck, I am far from a lawyer. I have not been on the board for long, but looks like there has been lots of action with wtbts since I have been here.

So what about Lent and Easter??
by Super_Becka inok, so today is the first day of lent (which is painfully obvious to me because i've chosen to give up my favourite snacks for lent and right now, i have a really bad craving for doritos), and it got me to thinking, once again, about wts doctrine and the whole banning of holidays thing that they have going on.. i've read the reasons behind banning things like birthdays, christmas, halloween, mother's and father's day and national holidays like canada day and independence day, but i have yet to read anything about lent and easter.. so, what's the line of reasoning behind the banning of lent and easter??
and i don't mean easter as in chocolate bunnies and easter eggs and all of that, i mean easter as a religious celebration of the resurrection of christ.
after all, jws have the memorial of the crucifixion, don't they??

I think that is what my wife was saying to, that Jesus did not have a bodily resurrection, but a spiritual resurrection and when one dies, they are I guess in essence returned to the earth and if they are to come back to live on 'paradise earth' they are recreated as an exact duplicate?!?!
I can not understand the sense or logic behind this, but it was what she told me.

Best of luck Mr. Hughes,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that the information that shall be uncovered in this proceedings will make the wtbts have to change their stance on thier insane view of a proven medical process. My wife is an inactive jw and I can sense that the one area where she becomes the most uneasy with their doctrine is with blood, but she still would not accept a transfusion.
Keep the good fight Mr Hughes.

tsof,
Best of luck to you, I have read a lot on the jwreform site and many of those articles are very interesting. My wife's family is jw and if the organization were not in place that is and the rules being set so firmly by the men, I do not think I would have as much animosity towards the faith. Each of us is entitled to their own religious beliefs, but one should never let their faith take over their life. We need to retain the right and will to think for ourselves.
Keep striving for reform tsof, sounds like you are a great person and are at least striving for some change, however so difficult it may be.

Great topic, my background is Lutheran and is also very tradition laden like the Anglicans and the Catholics (start of course was reformed Catholic). I am used to the full cadre of lent services such as the imposition of the ashes on Ash Wednesday, the tenabrae service and in addition to Easter Sunday, an Easter Vigil.
Like Becka, the more I read the more amazed I am with the tradition and beliefs of the witnesses, taking the joy out of worship. I guess if one lets the bunnies, eggs and other things become the focal point of the Easter season, that is not correct, but one who has a solid foundation in ones faith should be able to add some fun to the celebration. When I worked with our church youth, we would have an Easter party for the younger kids in the congregation, but we would make sure that we had a discussion of the lenten journey with the kids so they would know the real reason for the Easter and Good Friday services.
I feel that only celebrating the memorial of Christ's death sort of misses the whole point, if it were not for the resurrection, Jesus would have only been just another man or prophet, but he was and is not!
