This is great, thanks!!! One of the pubs my wife has is the Reasoning with the Scriptures, so I may be able to use this if she asks me about the cross, I have two on the walls, actually one in her office and one in the spare bedroom.

Misquotes from the "Reasoning Book" re: Cross (scans included)
by AlphaOmega inthe "reasoning book" claims that the 1874 edition of the imperial bible dictionary verifies the idea that jesus was crucified on a stake.
however, when you check the reference with the imperial bible dictionary, you see that it acutally is not as clear cut as that.. as usual, the infamous "..." of the watchtower has been used to edit out any opposing ideas in the source that they cite.. i know that this may have been mentioned before, but the scans of the imperial bible dictionary that are floating around the internet are from later editions, hence the page numbers are not those cited in the reasoning book.. .

Thanks Blondie,
I really wonder why someone such as my wife who is so very independent would even entertain the WTS. Is the headship issue something that is not brought up in the studies, especially with a woman? I can see how that could scare any woman away in a heartbeat......
Your analysis of the weekly WTS studies has been a great crutch to me, the times that my wife has gone to a meeting or discussed the wt with anyone, it gets me ready to know what is going on and my mind is set in a way to not just attack if she makes some off the wall comment that makes no sense or is not anywhere close to biblical in nature!!!
Your contributions to this place are absolutely the greatest and I hope and trust that you are doing great and feeling wonderful.
Once again, I appreciate ALL OF YOUR POSTS!!!

Odd experience - completing a hospital registration form...
by Princess Daisy Boo inso you all know yesterday that i had a minor surgical procedure done, right (well if you didn't, now you do, and you can stop reading and go an post something on my pity party thread).
you know how you get given a zillion forms to complete and sign - all my medical history, my family's medical history etc.
well we get to the question of religion and i write "no religion".

Being non jw, the blood transfusion issue would have never registered to me....
I guess they ask religion in case one would want a chaplain to visit!

Thinking of an method to get my wife to think about the organization.......
by insearchoftruth inam still trying to come to a course of action to deal with my wife and her renewed zeal for the wts.
one new detail that i find interesting is she was assigned a sister to study with and the gal called somewhat early yesterday morning and my wife chewed her up and told her she does not want to study with her, she want so study with sister whatever.
i am sure that the sister that called was somewhat taken aback by this.. i think a slant i may be able to use is the anointed/fds since my wife really did not know anything about this and especially since she gave me the phone when she was talking to the first sister she knows and i asked her some questions and she confirmed that they were one in the same as well as how people can fall from being anointed by not be 'faithful'.

Thanks St. Ann,
Happy July birthday to you as well. I was wondering what wts material Captives used, and I am pretty sure that our public library has proclaimers, if not most likely the pesky sister can provide. Are there any major changes in the 2008 edition of Captives?
I wish I could get her to read Crisis of Conscience, it lays it all out on the line...but I have trouble getting her to read much at all, apostate or not (maybe that is why the simple jw approach works for her!)
Appreciate all the great ideas...keep them coming!

latest OBEYING THE SLAVE - e-mail going around BARF ALERT
by stillajwexelder in'...do you realize that in the bible there are many instances of situations where jehovah's people were given directions that made no sense from a human standpoint and seemed totally illogical.
for instance - abraham sacrificing isaac; noah building an ark when there had never been rain; moses having the israelites march out in battle formation and then marching back in the direction they left - pharaoh thought they were crazy and then moses led them to the red sea - pharaoh thought he could kill them all as their backs were against the wall (sea); also gideon - his army whittled down to 300 men with torches and jars they went out to defeat the enemy.
and what about jericho - for six days they marched around the city once and on the seventh day they marched seven times and then shouted.

Consequences of being a JW
by Regretful_J ini've been thinking about what its like to be born and raised as a jw and the mistakes that parents make as an almost direct result of this cult.
for one thing, the children are not allowed to think freely, and if they say or do one little thing their parents disapprove of, they are chastised and basically bullied into abandoning that thought or action.
another thing is that no matter what you do, and no matter how good your reputation is among friends, teachers, administrators, etc if you don't want to go to meetings, and don't believe in this faith, they do what they can to make you feel lower then dirt for this and will often resort to verbal abuse, and sometimes violence to force you to believe in them and conform.

Education is a big issue with my wife, she has never been baptized, but also never encouraged in her education, in fact I found out the other day that two of her younger siblings do not even have HS diplomas or GEDs, they were sent out of the country for thier education, which they never got and when they returned were older than the mandatory education age.
My wife has been working through her associates degree with intent on getting a bachelors degree and some advanced education beyond......but when the darn sisters get around her, I am sure that they will be a lot more subtle than the DC, but will let her know why a secular education is bad.....serve jehoovers kingdom....
