i can't describe what i feel, when i see my mum as a jw.
sometimes (like today) it really gets me down knowing she and millions of others are living a life that is not going anywhere.. she's been to the british musuem, i've gotten e-mails from the british musuem.
we've read literature/websites/bible e.t.c.
Karl
You've had alot of wide ranging advice here.
What i'd like to add is that it's not really down to you. I'm not sure of why we're here and i'm not really searching at the mo' but i do know that whatever your mum decides to do will come from her and not you.
Your mum's path in life is her path and hers only! Sometimes i think that we ex-JWs still have the JW mentality in our quest to turn people away from the WTS.
You CAN'T preach Karl!! You can't lay down 'loving booby traps' hoping that she will fall in and see the light of what you now believe.
Our quest is our own. If she NEVER sees it then that is the path she has chosen and who knows, maybe it's the path that she's here to choose in order to learn a lesson that she needs to learn.
Of course you can lead your life and she can see the example that you set, that you are perfectly happy in the life you now lead but that's where it stops.
Love her. Tell her you love her and let her see your happiness.
The future holds only thoughts that we now have, don't worry about it.
Fashion your path and be happy doing it. Your mum will fashion her own.

i guess since leaving the witnesses, i have become willing to listen to more things.
mainly because i learned in life, that if the religion you were raised to live and die for is wrong, and deceptive, then couldn't that be said of government and science?
so with this in mind, of the ones i am going to list below.
BEARDO
Do you think Dr David Kelly actually killed himself?
No i certainly don't think Dr Kelly killed himself!! But what can i do about the 'dark forces' that were responsible??
The thing is, i would love to have the balls, brains and sheer blood and guts to be another Ernesto Guevara. I agree with your sentiments though. Maybe i'm becoming increasingly cynical and 'self-preserving' as i get older.

all of us were raised by someone and even though our cultures vary greatly as to what constitutes "good" and "evil", there's some pretty basic guidelines that people are generally raised to believe.. if there were no set guidelines as to how we should act, would humans grow up good or evil if there wasn't someone else telling them what to do?
what is our inherited nature?
to be like ghandi or hitler?
Not trying to go all 'eastern' on ya but i think that we are being of love and light,
Evil is the big glitch in our makeup.
We all commit bad deeds from time to time, some just choose to take that badness further and further, for some reason that i don't as yet understand.

I firmly believe that some of the 'theories' are in the ballpark of the truth.
Kennedy? More than one gunman for definite.
It's always entertaining to read of the various musings and mad rants that some proffer.
Sadly though, there is very little we can do, even if they were ALL true.
Plow your furrow.

At best, a fictitious god of ancient Judaism.
At worst, a revolting foul stench of a deity that cares not for it's followers. A genocidal shit that has no sense of humanity or true love and fellow feeling.
All that Jehovah signifies to me is evil, wickedness and pain.

i honestly believe most jw males stay in the orgnisation because they are given control, i.e.
married males have ultimate control over their wives and children.
i know a woman who was married to an elder and who said that prior to becoming a jw she would never be submissive to her husband.
The feeling of control is pretty friggin' cool, let me tell you. Especially with some of these sisters who can't go up to a door without a brother no more than 20 feet away. I'm not exaggerating much; there's a pioneer family, mother and daughter, who won't do a thing without a brother's direction. They are the worst case. But hey, I'm only 20 and they can't do a thing unless me or somebody else with a Y chromosome is there!
Even my mom gave me the green light to (verbally) lay the smack down on any sister who didn't like my steez when I conducted the bookstudy for the first time. It's power for the otherwise powerless. It's flippin' great.

Are you serious? If you are, then you're in 'total dickhead' territory IMO. Pretty dysfunctional too.
Getting a kick out of 'lording it over people'?
I do hope you're joking.....kid!!
Grow up quick.

While some JW men may stay in for reasons of power, I believe that the vast majority of men stay in because they either believe the religion, or are not sure what else to do, or where else to go. Many JW men who stay in are often subjective to their wives in practice. These men stay in the Organization because they are afraid of screwing up their families.
Amazing has nailed it here for me.
Even so, the patriarchal society that the WTS promotes certainly doesn't lend itself to a balanced and loving arrangement with regard to the rights and opinions of women.
I dread to think of the awful scenario that faced the female population in ancient Israelite times.
Truly second class citizens. Sad.

many time believers differentiate sin as willfull and non willfull.
is there a difference .....not including an honest mistake?
gumby.
You mentioned "justice" was not carried out by god in letting mans penalty with Adan and Eves fall result in death. Who's standards did you use in qualifying "justice"?
Oi Gumbollocks!!
Stop being an awkward arse and accept that justice (or our sense of fairness in dealing with others, a sense of rectitude and honesty) has not been done towards us with regard to that bloke and his big gig in the sky.
As the formidable Terry has eloquently explained.
You just don't like clever people do ya...huh?
let me hit you in the forehead with a baseball bat and I'll bury you in my backyard and no one will know cept fer you and me?
'N' by the way, if you did hit Terry in the forehead with a baseball bat, he actually wouldn't know about it!! Cos he'd be laid down dead. Silly boy.
See ya can be clever (sometimes ya sound like ya are)...ya just have to try harder!
Peace and Goodwill to ya boy.

(of course, do not give out their real names) i want to keep this thread going!
i think mine would be to the elder that got up and moved as far away as he could from me in the restaurant!
"the next time i see you in a restaurant, i hope you choke on a chicken bone!
I would say to Sweet Jenny, the only person i ever met in 15 yrs in the JW faith that had a heart and genuine humanity, i would say..."Please stop going to the KH sweetie. Come and have a coffee with me and we''ll start setting you free".
Peace
