i was at a friends tonite, and read a bit on jihadist cretins in saudi arabia, who have banned george orwells "animal farm" because the farm ends up run by pigs.. godly honest - hearted moslems are also seeking to ban piglet, and charlottes web from schools.. apparently the eyes of innocent moslem babies cannot be defiled by reading about unclean animaux taking over the world, but.
they can go to market to shop with mommy and see starving thieves having their hand sawn off (but humanely given a novocaine shot in the arm so they can watch but not feel it).
Further to Mulan's point, religion is indeed poison (particularly those based upon the patriarchal writings) and if it wasn't veering towards a scarily controlling society, i would BAN it!
Saudi Arabia is as backward a country as there can be.

What is surprising is the continued insistence of some that it is due to the brand of religion rather than the unadvanced nature of the culture.

Until these two become separate and they start to advance culturally the accursed medieval law that they live by will continue to draw the utmost derision from more civilised societies. Many Anglicised Moslems do display a more open and lenient approach but even in the UK there is a foul and pestilent undercurrent of Islamic intolerance.
I cannot EVER see the Islamic world changing and that's a sad thought for human society as a whole.

there was an interesting program on bbc's newsnight about the recently released unicef report on child well-being.
the uk came bottom of the list with scandanavian countries and the netherlands top.
this report comes after another list placing the uk 37th in the best countries to live in the world, below such places as latvia and panama (no offence to those respective countries but we in the uk, maybe being delusional, expect to be higher).
I'd say that kids in Iraq have it a little worse off than kids in the UK.
Not to make light of problems in the UK, or anywhere else ('cause the States have their issues as well), but when compared to third world countries and war-torn countries, I think we can appreciate that we and our kids have things pretty good.
What kind of argument is that Undercover??
