The wages of sin
by oldflame ini had a heavy thought the other day in a discussion with some friends.
the question was this.
if the wages of sin is death for humans then why do animals die ?

22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[b] Christ Jesus our Lord.
The wages sin pays do not result in physical death. Sinning leads to spiritual death. Note how sin is contrasted to holiness in the previous verse.
22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
We, just as the animals, have a built-in time limit. Where does it say Adam and Even were created "perfect?" They supposedly could live forever only if they ate from the tree of life. How come God put it there, and later blocked them from it, if they were designed to live forever anyway?
And while Jesus was free from sin (holy), he was still a human who did not eat from the tree of life. So, if he hadn't been murdered, I believe he would have aged and died just as any other human, animal or plant.

The Artist formally known as Prince
by Sasha indid any of you floridians see the article in the palm beach post.?
it seems they were giving a party for prince the other night (he's performing at the super bowl in miami toinght) and he would not show up because there were designs of dragons on the walls.
the article went on to say that prince is a "devoted jehovah's witness" and therefore believes that you can't look upon dragons because it is a symbol of the devil...now, my question is: have any of you current, or former witnesses ever heard of that?

I understand Bro. Prince's stumbling at dragons. They were forbidden in our home. Satan is the great dragon in Revelation hurled down from heaven by Michael (aka Jesus)!
When my aunts and uncle traveled to China, they brought back carvings and paintings depicting dragons. Mom wouldn't accept any as gifts.
When my uncle (who teaches "pagan" Tai Chi) married his Taiwanese wife, the wedding invitation was bright red with a beautiful golden dragon on the front. We were instructed to rip the card in half and discard the dragon, but its was okay to keep the rest of the invite!
Later my aunt tried to explain to mom that in her culture, dragons are harmless good luck symbols. But we know Witnesses don't believe in "luck" or wishing good luck to others, so it was a moot point.
Pinatas: YES. Dragons: NO.

Please recommend books/websites about early church history..
by AK - Jeff ini am reading shelly's 'church history in plain language', and enjoying it's down to earth 'layman' style very much.. i would like to read some books on the evolution of church doctrine - hopefully written in the same style.
i am no biblical/historical scholar by admission - and would love to read some literature on how doctrines altered and changed in the early centuries - something that doesn't put one to sleep with it's long-windedness - but also detailed enough, and in plain language enough, to keep me interested.. many of you folks must have favorites - can you recommend them ?.
