Oops, I was focusing on Paul's hypocrisy in Timothy... not so much the "end is near." Sorry, will have to look again later.

1 Timothy 1
3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work—which is by faith. 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7THEY WANT TO BE TEACHERS OF THE LAW, BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT OR WHAT THEY SO CONFIDENTLY AFFIRM.
8We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9We also know that law[a] is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11that conforms to the GLORIOUS GOSPEL OF THE BLESSED GOD, WHICH HE ENTRUSTED TO ME.
1 Timothy 6
3If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4he is CONCEITED AND UNDERSTANDS NOTHING. He has an UNHEALTHY INTEREST IN CONTROVERSIES AND QUARRELS about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
20Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the OPPOSING IDEAS OF WHAT IS FALSELY CALLED KNOWLEDGE, 21which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith. -

CAN YOU ANSWER THIS QUESTION?
by Terry ina semi-famous math professional poses this question in a book i'm reading.. i find the answer to be counter-intuitive, but, entertaining.. here is the question:.
you buy a sack of spuds that weighs 100lbs and are told it is 99% water.. you leave the sack outside in the sun for a couple of days before bringing it inside to store.. you find the spuds are now only 98% water.. how much does the sack of spuds weigh?
(this is not a trick question.

100 lbs because the net weight (spuds) has not changed.

by BR25 inas you all know by now i am a jw backer, and in the first week on here i have gone back and forth with people.
alot of people on here have a problem with all the rules.
in my opinion i dont think they were too hard to follow and most of it was stuff that you shouldnt be doing anyways.

BR25, I think you brought up a good topic. Many current JWs delude themselves that people leave because they oppose certain rules. It just ain't so!
If "immunities" were granted — even on a hypothetical individual basis, such as to play sports — people would still leave because the very nature of the WT organization is dishonest, destructive and unChristian.
Here's your

I think BR25 means all the rules written and unwritten in the congregation?
#1 immunity would be NO SHUNNING. People should be free to associate with whomever they please, *especially* within families. Go ahead and make the nasty announcements, but do not punish people for who they then choose associate with.
This is probably the most hateful, inhumane, unChristian rule the Society enforces. It's actually one of the earmarks of a cult. I realize you back the JWs, but do they back you to make your own decisions about association, even immediate family?
Why can't they trust people to rely on their bible-trained conscience? If it equips one for dealing with the world, it should work even better in the congregation.

An Open Discussion About The Bible
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 {font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif} .style2 {font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style3 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; color: #0033cc; } .style4 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #0033cc; } --> an open discussion about the bibleit has taken me a while to reconsider the bible after my watchtower experience.. to discount or discredit the bible because men have manipulated or tainted it .
would seem unfair to me.. the willingness to reconsider the biblei am debating whether to research the bible and have an open discussion about it.
the challenge i think is to do it without the influence from a religious source.

Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why
by Bart D. Ehrman
This is a history of the efforts to compile accurate translations of the NT. Ehrman is creditable and unbiased, not foaming-at-the-mouth to destroy anyone's faith, yet presents a lot of the inaccuracies, mistakes and sometimes deliberate alterations to the existing texts. I found the reviews much more controversial than the book itself, which I must stress is a history with good chapter notes/index. Mr. Ehrman's only apparent agenda (IMO) is to present the facts (as we have them today).
You can read the book's introduction online at amazon.com to see if this "reconsideration" is for you.
Good luck!

How does the Ransom Sacrifice work? A Primer
by Terry inin judaism, only the offended party can forgive you your sin.
you must make amends or pay a fine.
that is why murder cannot be forgiven; the deceased is not around to accept your apology or restitution!.

There's a rather detailed explanation here... and no, it's not about ransoming or even perfection (nowhere do the scriptures say man was created perfect).

Corruption of Justice
Logical Absurdities
"Without doubt, the most celebrated human sacrifice of all is that of Jesus Christ; the Christian religion is founded upon it. The typical Christian finds nothing wrong this. Moreover, he is probably grateful because someone innocent atoned for his guilt. We will examine this subject in depth to show that it is arguably one of the greatest perversions of logic and justice ever perpetuated on mankind."
