The Bear That Wasn't
Though appearing as a children's book, this story takes a critical and satirical look at aspects of society. It revolves around the concept of people believing a repeated idea even though it may not be true. People have a tendency to shift their views if a concept is hammered into them over and over again, like the bear being told he is a "silly man who needs a shave and wears a fur coat". The bear eventually succumbs to this mistaken assumption, believing he is a man even though he had previously known otherwise, just as humans shift their views on a topic because of repetitive information, or because 'they all say it is true, therefore it must be'. Yet, in the end, the bear, who is cold in winter, reverts back to what he really is - a bear - and finds shelter in a cave. This idea covers the concept of people never changing due to outside influence. Though a person may change for someone else, when placed in a difficult position, they revert back to old habits - just like the bear hibernating. Whether something's fact or fiction, it is what it is and doesn't change - no matter how many people believe otherwise.

MUST READ: Books for Young JWs - a Required Reading List
by Oubliette ini've been contemplating a list of works of fiction that should be read by every young jehovah's witness, (12 - 18 years old).
the goal is to plant seeds of truth and critical thinking skills which could ultimately invoking cognitive dissonance and help them wake up to the truth about "the truth" (ttatt).
my idea is an adaptation of steven hassan's approach of not attacking a cult members beliefs directly, but rather indirectly by getting them to look at other similar belief systems and social structures, in this case fictional ones that mirror many of the destructive, oppressive features of jehovah's witnesses.

Peanut gallery
A peanut gallery was, in the days of vaudeville, a nickname for the cheapest (and ostensibly rowdiest) seats in the theater, the occupants of which were all too willing (in the view of the performer) to heckle.
The least expensive snack served at the theater would often be peanuts, which the patrons would sometimes throw at the performers on stage to show their disapproval. The phrases "no comments from the peanut gallery" or "quiet in the peanut gallery" are extensions of the name, meaning the "great unwashed" should defer to their betters.
In the late 1940s the Howdy Doody children's television show adopted the name to represent its audience of children. -

Tylin, you answered with the email support contact at the AWAA, yet you "don't want anybody to do anything."
Again, that is absurd. Why are you attacking me?
If you think that's the case, then report it to Simon. There are many intelligent people here who've been around the block a few times, and they see what you are doing. Mischaracterizing my remarks to suit your agenda is not helping. -

Wow. I'm asking about a post YOU made HERE. No need to contact support at AWAA, that is absurd for you to even suggest it. Then blame-shifting to the forum software?
Yes, the cynic in my wonders if they have really learnt anything or just want more info from people so they can "retaliate better".
Thank you Simon! That is exactly what Tylin wants me to do: Share my email so they can retaliate for noting disturbing comments THEY made on JWN. No one can help it if some — definitely not all — of the people involved have shady histories. The responsibility lies squarely upon them if they continue such antics.

Tylin, why did you create a link to JWN's homepage with the word "support" when it is not there on the AWAA website? Just curious.

Constructive feedback for AAWA leadership (IMHO)
by besty in1 - reconsider your existence - there might be a reason why the most effective resources to date have been solo efforts.
2 - recognize that even well-intentioned organizations will firstly seek self-preservation.
3 - be aware that egos and emotional stupidity have torn apart much grander edifices than aawa.

These are in no way AAWA's official responses.
So why post them? They are only how I would answer for the sake of discussion.
It's funny how Simon's suggested FAQs don't even address Facebook, but Tylin and another AWAA member here keep obfuscating with useless and often contradictory Facebook tutorials for days on end.
Really, enough about Facebook. It's not a legitimate platform to carry out AWAA's stated mission. End of. Period.
Facebook didn't "out" any faders, zealous AWAA members did. No tweaking of settings can fix their horrendous jackass response (or non-response). The Facebook blame-shifting only makes them look worse for it.There are hundreds of ExJW Facebook Groups and Pages. Each one of them is subjected to the same security issues.
Blah blah blah Facebook blah blah blah. Hundreds of other groups and pages are not the problem. Somebody stick a fork in that dead horse, because it's DONE.
