Have you ever had a prayer answered?

prayer topics seem to be the bandwagon of the moment so i'm jumping on!

seriously, has anyone here asked for something specific in prayer and actually gotten what they asked for?

what convinces you that you wouldn't have got it in any case?

Absolutely not. To me, when a person finds instances of God answering prayers they are finding treasure in a landfill and ignoring all the garbage around them.

It blows my mind when people say that God answered their prayer about recovering from an illness, getting a job, or stopping a person from getting abused, or got over a drug problem or whatever. To the person who got sick, did you not pray about your health before you got sick? If you really "believe" in God and that prayer was all that was needed, why did you get sick in the first place? Why did you go to the doctor at all? You clearly didnt need anything that they offered you. What about getting fired or laid off from your job? Why was God not looking out for you ahead of time? Or when you were hooked on drugs? Where was God when you started to go downhill?

Now, I can hear the stock reply already brewing. God let me go through this test to make me stronger, or see his love for me, or this or that. To me, that is total garbage. That would be like holding my sons hand to the burner on a stove, or sitting by watching and letting him hold it on the stove, so he would learn the lesson I wanted him to, or learned that I would tend to his wound, and make it all better in the end. Child Protective Services would take my kid away, and rightly so. Why does God get a hall pass???? Especially when he can prevent it in the first place?? And also, do you honestly expect me to believe that God let a quarter million people die in a tsunami 18 months ago and then got your dad a job? Or fixed a faulty medical device? Or healed Terrill Owens in time so he could play in the Super Bowl, which is a claim he made. Come on. To beleive that God is sitting around waiting for you to pray in the right way and answer your prayer while he lets everyone else suffer and die is self centered and arrogant.

Ha Ha...Hooberus, such a short time that I have been here and already I chuckle when you post...

Everybody, Hooberus stalks this message board in search of former JW's that are new to their freedom so he can attempt to convert them to his own personal faith...he has never been a JW, and he is apparently quite fond of threads that have to do with something related to science as he probably fancies himself to be "science minded" and isnt quite bright enough to realize that if he wants to believe the bible he should just explain everything with a statement along the lines of "it's a miracle, God did it. Thank you Lord, now how can I conform myself to your bullshit? Oh, and thank you for sitting by idly as billions of your sons killed each other in wars, and millions of your daugthers were raped by your sons through out history. And also, thanks for sending your firstborn son to die to make up for it all...even though you could have fixed it yourself."

Hooberus, like you and I have already talked about, evolution, as you insist on broadly defining it, itself is not the issue. The big bang, pertaining to cosmology, the age of the universe, the age of the Earth, all have nothing to do with the supposed religious debate between evolution and creation. Evolution could have just as easily been the mechanism that God used for any of the aforementioned. What you dont like is biological evolution. That is the issue that actually conflicts with your narrow minded literal interpretation of the beginning of the book of Genesis. And so, as was correctly pointed out, Abiogenisis has nothing to do with biological evolution. To refresh your poor memory regarding our previos conversation, biological evolution is the " Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species ." Now, if Abiogenisis is the absolute very beginning of the sequence, and has nothing to do with the successive generations, by definition it can have nothing to do with biolocical evolution. So therefore, your entire point was worthless. And I'll remind you, no link you post to another website means that you are (a) correct, and (b) understand a single thing you have posted...

You are right, and I didnt state that well, and I realized on my hour long drive to work that someone was going to call me on it. And you dont need to justify correcting me! If I was wrong, I was wrong! :)

In my own defense though I will say it is one of those instances, which hopefully I am not alone in having, where I knew what I meant and chose my words poorly!

Thank you for the compliment! You know, I noticed one thing. Once I started thinking outside that box, I never closed my mind back into it!

FunkyDerek, that was a thought provoking post, which I, in my short time here, have come to expect from you. A question I have, based on your post, is this. With the definition of the universe that you give, can there really be anything that is truly "supernatural"? I know you avoided delving into alot of the questions that automatically would help me figure that our for myself (like God being around at the beginning of said universe and whatnot), and perhaps our own definitions of the words are different, rendering my post meaningless, but if everything living, including lifeforms that are superior to us, is a product of nature, could we then still consider it supernatural? And I am not trying to find fault with your post, I am just looking for an area that I may be able to expand my own perspective.

i always remember a point to the watchtower study, was that your comments should be about something that meant something to you or something you learned from the experience.

well, did anyone have a brother or sister in the congregation who did this .... "i would like to define the meaning to the most simplest word in this paragraph, to see if i can seem smart for knowing how to use a dictionary?".

... when i say simple word, i mean people defining "honor" or maybe something like "knowledge" or any other word a person with an education beyond the forth grade would know without the look-up.

The problem with the riddle is this...

The kids dont spend $9. They spend $9.3333333333.

The cost of the frame is $25, which means that each kid spends $8.333333. If he gives them back a dollar each, they have now each spent $9.33333, which for all three of them adds up to $28. The $2 he keeps make it $30 even...
