If you have a choice between option #1 and option #2, if it was a true FREE choice, then no punishment and no reward should be attached to what you choose. Yes, we have a choice, but we do not have a FREE choice.
No, I do not believe that Jehovah is a God of love. I truly wish I could believe it, but I can't.
What if God punished no one? Then what is to stop someone like Satan and Angels from killings human for the fun of it?

God is right, (Gir as they call you)
Have you read chapter 31 of numbers ? You might wanna change your avatar name eh? You'll especially like verse 18.
I know that verse. Moab should have repented from their sins instead of trying to get Balaam to curse Israel. If you go against God, what do you expect to happen?

G'day! I was hoping you'd get to this thread! I hope you pick up on some of the 'points' made by.....oh well, I leave it you!!
GiR:
Thanks for your comments but I don't think you've come to terms with my (perhaps obliquely) put question which of course has a point to make.
Perhaps this will help you:
No, I have understood you. It's a given that the true meanings of the holy scriptures will be and is hidden from the majority of mankind. Did God ever intend for most people to understand the bible? Maybe not. However, i believe certain points in the bible are plain to "see" for everyone. I am not a person who has made it across the finishing line. My understanding of the bible is incomplete, but I already have seen much. I only hope I am at least near the finishing line on my death bed or by the arrival of my lord in his glory.

He doesn't seem to "tolerate" those who DO follow his standards does he? How EXACTLY does he "tolerate" the rightous? How are the rightous treated any different than the wicked? Were the rightous spared in New Orleans apart from the wicked? Were the rightous spared in the Phillipines?
George Bush was warned and he failed to act upon the warning. He rejected building stronger levies because it throught it would cost too much. He tried to put a price on human life and miscalculated! Enough said!!!!!!!!
How about the millions of Muslims that have never talked to a christian and they believe in the prophet Mohammed and Jesus as a secondary prophet? Will god not "tolerate" them because they do not accept his son as any lifesaving importance when this belief is ALL they know and believe as strongly as do you?
Muslims do not tolerate Christians in the middle east. If you try preach the "good news" to them, they will chop off your head and send the "bad news" to your closest living relative. As a matter of fact, they will chop your head off because you are an American infidel Enough said!!!!!!!!
God made himself known to only one tribe.....the Jews. All the other millions of people he kept quiet with..... and the only time they heard of him was when he was there to kick their ass. Was there not ONE rightous as was Abraham among the pagans? Not one? Abraham was apparently the only rightous one to deserve a promise and the rest of his seed that wasn't born yet gets in on the promise and gifts and the rest of gods kids get to peek through the window of blessings untill god allows in the gentiles after thousands of years.........what a joke of a god.
God made himself known to everyone. God had prophets outside of Israel and any person could come and live in Israel as an alien resident as long that person accepted the laws as given by Moses. Everyone including the Israelites disobeyed God!
Have you ever read the book of numbers? Balaam was a prophet of God who wasn't an Israelite. The Kings of the area knew of him! What kept them from worshipping God? Balak king of Moab not only once, but 3 times summoned Balaam to curse Israel inspite of Balaam telling him that the Israelites were blessed servants God. Notice that Balak did not care! Balaam even later tried to trick all of the Israelites in to sinning so that the anger of God could blaze against them so that God would remove his blessings. Balaam did this for money. Trust me. God had non Israelite prophets and he sent them to warn the gentile nations of their wickedness and the consequences, but they did not listen! God is not partial!

"O you lovers of Jehovah, hate what is bad." (Psalm 97:10)
26
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own soul, he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26)"Do I not hate those who are intensely hating you, O Jehovah, and do I not feel a loathing for those revolting against you? With a complete hatred I do hate them. They have become to me real enemies."—Psalm 139:21, 22.
"I have hated the congregation of evildoers, and with the wicked ones I do not sit." (Psalm 26:5)
16
There are six things that Jehovah does hate; yes, seven are things detestable to his soul: 17 lofty eyes, a false tongue, and hands that are shedding innocent blood, 18 a heart fabricating hurtful schemes, feet that are in a hurry to run to badness, 19 a false witness that launches forth lies, and anyone sending forth contentions among brothers. ... 13 The fear of Jehovah means the hating of bad. Self-exaltation and pride and the bad way and the perverse mouth I have hated. (Proverbs 6:16-19; 8:13)Why did God create evil? Does God need to hate? Is God only able to show love if he has something to hate?
God gave us free will. Cain klilled Abel. God tried to reason with him earlier, but Cain didn't listen and he kill his brother anyway. God was upset about it. Did create evil? Enough said!!!

Should we evaluate satan's thoughts, to see if we agree or not?
by DavidChristopher inshould we just take others word, and blame everything on him, without seaching and trying to see if there was a reason for what he did?.
is there a chance, he could have been doing what jehovah wanted him to do?
or was he meant to be a "fall guy" for us?

GodisRight
Why is satan supposed to be so bad? What did he actually do? He gets the blame, sure, but what does he explicitly do? Can’t explain why you did something bad? Blame the devil! An excuse.
He tempted Adam & Eve by telling them the truth! If they ate from the tree they would be the equal of god. Is this true? They ate from the tree. God got pissed and threw them out....
Satan told eve that she would not die. He lied!
... And the bit about tempting jesus. So what? He tempted him, jesus declined the offer, no-harm-no foul as far as I can see. What does satan actually do that makes him so bad?
Are you serious? Satan tried to mislead the one person who could save us from eternal death and you say no harm no foul because he failed? What if someone threw a stone at your head and missed? Would you say no harm no foul?
Tell folks to slaughter women and children (but keeping the more attractive women for wives)?
Not quite accurate.
Destroy whole towns or civilizations? Kill 70,000 people because some guy took a census and a myriad of other nasty things? No, it was god (the one who supposedly loves everyone) doing this! Not satan...
You have no idea of the chaos that would erupt upon all of exsistence if God did not put his foot down. God sees things we do not. God has experiences and knowledge of the human race that we can never gain during our brief life on earth. He let Cain off the hook for murder. Then what happen next? Another man killed a guy and claimed he should be forgiven if cain is to be forgiven. Next thing you know we have world full of violence that must be cleansed by a flood! You see what happens here? If you think God is evil for killing 70,000 people? Over 200,000 people per year are murdered by other humans. Humans should keep this in mind whenever they are thinking of taking the moral high ground against God! How many people killed when America dropped 2 A bombs on Japan? What about the poor innocent cilvilians( women and children) who had nothing to with that war between US and Japan? What about the German air blitz on London? Many women and chlidren were killed during those air raids who nothing to do with the war.

So you understand Genesis to be apocalyptic?
Only to people who are oblivious to the ancient culture and ways of the people by which the bible is written. As with other things in life, the bible should be approached from diffrent perspectives. People should try to look at the scriptures from God's, the prophets, or the people of ancient Israel point of view. People selfishly only see things from their own perspective.

GiR:
What do you understand by the expression "apocalyptic language" ?
What must be understood is biblical expression. Generalism, vagueness, and events in unsequential order.People ask questions like where did Cain get his wife? They never understand that the bible is very generalistic and sometimes it's just vague. The bible doesn't say that Adam and Eve had daughters before Cain had a wife, but the bible did not say that they didn't have daughters either! The bible just leaves out the details sometime. Which is understandable because the bible is thousands of years old and if it recorded every little detail, it would be over a hundred thousands pages long.

Excellent, Nark. Isn't it a shame the JW's are brainwashed into picking and choosing scriptures instead of reading them in their context.
Maybe GIR will take the time to research the second death and the first resurrection using other venues than the WACKTOWER publications.
Honesty, I find it insulting that you would call me a JW. The irony here is that Jehovah Witnesses would agree with you and Nark. I do not read the watch tower magazines any more. I don't know where you are getting all this stuff from. I don't know what gave you idea that I am an active JW or that I hold on to their teachings? I believe all Christians go to heaven and I don't believe in earthly paradise during the millenium. I don't believe people will have eternal life during that period.
I don't see how anyone can call me a JW unless they speaking out of contempt for my views.
