The meme theory
by osmosis inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/meme
the basic idea of the meme theory is that thoughts and information have a life of their own.
they are born, they evolve, they die.

JWs abusive by nature.. ?
by osmosis inthe current pop psychology about cults is drawing a very strong parallel between cult victims and "battered woman syndrome".
1. the woman believes that the violence was her fault.. 2. the woman has an inability to place the responsibility for the violence elsewhere.. 3. the woman fears for her life and/or her children's lives.. 4. the woman has an irrational belief that the abuser is omnipresent and omniscient.. i myself have noticed certain abusive patterns in my relationships with my jw relatives.
a lot of it comes from my dad and now when i think about it, i think of it as manipulative, "jedi mind tricks" he tries to play on me.. has anyone else noticed manipulative and/or downright abusive undercurrents among jws?

Brain teaser
by osmosis inhere is a question that actually makes my jw aunt feel uncomfortable.. er, rather, she admits that this question makes her uncomfortable.. a very prevalent argument for the existence of god is the apparent complexity of the known universe.
this complexity, believers say, is proof positive that the universe was created.
we couldn't just appear out of nowhere, the big bang can't actually explain things.

by osmosis inbah.
bah i say!.
after talking with the jw aunt yesterday and feeling extremely frustrated at her ability to twist logic and not see things that are right in front of her, i started feeling kinda down.. dammit, sass was right, i worked myself into a depression over this.

JW interpretation of bible
by osmosis insay, for example, you ask a jw about the book of genesis, and about the seven days, we all know what they say, that it's in "god time" which means 1 day = 7000 years, by their reckoning.
does this particular argument have any validity?
to me it seems like an "escape hatch", a tool to explain away what one could call certain "irregularities" in the bible.. they seem to think they can cross-reference any one part of the bible with any other as serves their ideological agenda.
