Introducing Mrs Cedars...
by cedars ini just thought you should know that mrs cedars has finally taken the plunge and joined the forum.
she was able to log on for the first time yesterday.. though we both "awakened" at different stages, mrs cedars was very supportive and non-judgmental when i first began exploring my beliefs from a critical standpoint.
she is currently in the process of reading crisis of conscience and aquainting herself with some of the facts of witness history that were hitherto unknown.

How Do You Think The Watchtower IT Department Is Responding To The Anonymous Threat?
by DT inso anonymous has declared its intentions to utterly destroy the watchtower society.
this will likely include attacking the official websites and trying to obtain the database of 23,000+ pedophiles in the organization.. i have never served at bethel so i would appreciate the input of those who have.
do you think they are taking this threat seriously?.

I remember reading something about the psychology behind organizations keeping damning secrets but I can't find it. I think it's part hubris, part carelessness, part bureaucracy.

Parties puff you up with pride
by rebel8 inthis is not a new topic but one i had a chance to ponder recently.
the dubs taught any parties in a person's honor puffed them up with pride and hence jehoopla hated them.
ex--birthdays, graduations, etc.

I believe that by JWs withholding celebrations such as birthdays under this whole "undue honor to ourselves" crap, they truly do a number on a person's self esteem and make you feel worthless. It felt weird or wrong when I had my first birthday party, like I didn't deserve it or something. I find birthdays great therapy for anyone leaving and I recommend that if you leave the org, that you start celebrating.

update on my boy
by Aussie Oz inmy son came to visit today, he and i are getting a lot closer since he left his jw home and thanks largely to his mother and step father alienating him big time.
he needs one of his parents to help him out at times and he can't turn to his mother.
thats sad but its her loss, and his i guess.. anyway, he recently got himself a girlfriend, a worldly girl at that.

Lack of reading material provided by the Watchtower
by baltar447 inok, so sseveninches made this comment on another thread got me thinking:.
concerning reading books (life is to short): i read many 'secular' books, and my sister reads even more than i do.
we're very open about it - in our house we have a giant bookshelf of books we've read, textbooks, and some movies.

Ok, so sseveninches made this comment on another thread got me thinking:
Concerning reading books (life is to short): I read many 'secular' books, and my sister reads even more than I do. We're very open about it - in our house we have a giant bookshelf of books we've read, textbooks, and some movies. It's very prominent...anyone who visits us will not miss it. My mom always has this argument against it, saying "we have too much to read from the organization, so why would you get some other book to read?"
And I have no problem defending someone who needed time to study for school. I myself have missed days where I would normally go out in field service so I could study, but no one has said anything about it. I guess some JWs feel more strongly about it then others. What that elder's wife said was out of place and none of her business.
So, I know that more people are becoming aliterate these days. But there are those that are soon going to have 50% of their JW reading time free since the new mags are going to be half sized. My question is, for those still in that are rapacious readers what do you think they will do with that extra reading time? Novels? More TV? More Internet time? Will it matter?

Imagine the possibilities. If this information could be leaked and put into a searchable database... Can you imagine the phone calls to HQ? Brother elder is on this list! Can you imagine the new lawsuits? Perhaps a family that were told to "be quiet" about it find out that later this "brother" was caught before and diciplined but YOUR case there wasn't TWO Witnesses! Ohhhh the devastation this would cause.

July 15th WT - WT Society Promotes " Freedom " by using Fear & Guilt
by flipper inof course, freedom means a lot of different things to many different people.
however- to the wt society it means controlling it's jw members through fear and guilt to promote a " conditional " freedom - which turns out to not be freedom at all - just a manipulated socially restricted condition in which jehovah's witnesses are caged animals waiting for the next bit of " spiritual " food to be thrown to them by wt articles like this.. at the start of this article on pg.
7 in paragraph 1 it states that due to lawlessness, none of us have freedom to roam around at night, there are alarms, security systems - so the wt society infers we are all living in fear.

CC, I remember something a few years back that featured how one could schedule time for Aux Pioneering. It was ridiculous of course.
