I've just checked and "special mightiness" seems to be a New World Translation peculiarism, which I had never thought of before. There are probably quite a few turns of phrase like this which are in familiar usage among Jehovah's Witness, but when you stop to think about it you realise they are the results of a shoddy translation.

I can't actually see how this would be unscriptual. The apostles carried swords at some times, and Jesus even said “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one" (Luke 22:36).

Son to JW school-mate: "Go ahead. Tell the Jewish girl how the Jewish holiday REALLY happened."
by Open mind inmy family (wife and teenage kids) and i awakened to the true nature of the wt society a couple years ago and are fairly well faded now.. .
my son attends high school with a couple of jws, one of whom is an elder's son and an ardent true believer.
let's call him "con".

To be fair, the Passover story is part of the JW kid's religion and culture as well, and I don't see why the Jewish girl has any better claim on it.
"Right. Go ahead Con. In front of all these people, you, the Jehovah's Witness, tell the Jewish girl all about how the Jewish holiday works."
It looks as if Con has been the victim of religious bigotry. Would it be acceptable to mock a Jew in the same way?
"In front of all these people, you, the Jew, tell the Jehovah Witness boy all about how the Jehovah Witness commemoration works."

Any more news on what will be happening to existing missionaries? Rumour has it that missionary homes will be closing and they will be relocated into other accomodation. Has anybody heard anything similar?

Awake!: Sometimes You Just Have To Pick Your Jaw Up Off The Floor
by metatron inah, deception must be so-o-o-o-o-o- easy when you can deal with people who have no critical thinking skills.. an amazing example?
the past november awake magazine !
the cover asks, "is belief in a creator reasonable?".

Another contradiction is that while some of the dinosaurs are obviously predators, there is a JW belief that all the animals were herbivores before the Flood (although I'm not sure if that belief is official).

District Assembly eating rules....
by JH induring our district assembly which will be held at a coliseum, we were told not to go outside during the intermission, and not eat in restaurants near by.
we were told to bring our own food and eat inside the coliseum.
usually, the coliseum offers hot dogs and hamburgers and drinks, but the brothers refused this service.. .

"Inasmuch as the convention site actually becomes a large Kingdom Hall during the convention, it is also wise to avoid developing a picnic atmosphere during the noon break"
NO FUN ALLOWED!! YOU'RE SMILING, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING??????
Among my best memories of the conventions were eating on a grassed area near the stadium with family and friends, just like a picnic. The other stuff, not so great.

Why are letters from John and Paul included in the Bible?
by Lore ini don't see much difference between paul writing a letter to the corinthian congregation and the gb writing a letter to the timbucktoo congregation.. is what paul wrote to the ephesians just as fallible and subject to 'new light' as the letters the wts writes to congregations today?.
if a letter from the governing body today which says it's immoral to have an organ transplant can be dead wrong and changed later.
can the letter from paul which says it's wrong to eat blood be dead wrong and subject to change later?.

Interesting question. There were other letters which came later, as Balaamsass said. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostolic_Fathers .

Do active JW's understand the "new light" on the feet toes of the staue in Daniel?
by donny incan someone enlighten me as to what is the new understanding vs the old one regarding the vision of the statue was given by god to king nebuchadnezzar of babylon in a dream?
i have asked two of the jw's who work with me and neither of them were able to explain it to me.
the best i got was "well the feet and clay are not just the u.s. and great britain, they are i think most of the big powers as a whole or something like that.".

The confusing thing is that in the prophecy about the kings of the north and south, Rome is held by the JW's to be the king of the north, and after many changes of identity, the Anglo-American World Power is the king of the south. And yet in the prophecy about the statue and the one about the wild beasts, Britain is said to be a natural continuation of the Roman Empire, because part of it was in the Roman Empire once.

The parable of the sheep and the goats!
by TimothyT ini was reading again the parapble jesus spoke to his disciples about the sheep and goats.
when i read it, it was plain and simple in my eyes.. 34 then the king will say to those on his right, come, you who have been blessed by my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world.
35 for i became hungry and you gave me something to eat; i got thirsty and you gave me something to drink.

The sheep and goats parable shows one of the most indefensible doctrines of Jehovah's Witnesses, the two classes of Christians.
The JW interpretation seems to say the sheep are the other sheep, and the goats are those destroyed at Armageddon. But there is a third group, the anointed, who don't fit in. Even though the reference to the sheep "inheriting the kingdom" makes it sound like the sheep are in the new covenant, i.e. just the anointed according to JW doctrine.
Actually, the mainstream Christian interpretation is that other sheep are the Gentiles. A simple and obvious interpretation that never occured to me when I was a JW.
