Here's your response, Besty:
That's quite a response, LKL. Yes, it is. Is that what you would tell the parents who just lost lost their children to gun violence? A lot of statistics, but not much compassion, I must say. "It is a goddamned shame that these innocent lives were taken in this way." Is that what you would say to the parents? Well, OK.............................
Yet I do know what you mean, LKL, about being made a scapegoat for this terrible tragedy. You didn't do it, and it's not fair to imply that you're responsible in any way whatsoever. However, when you post videos of yourself blasting away and "having one of the best times of my life," you would tend to become the face of "gun enthusiasts" everywhere, at least around this forum.
I can't think of any other issue that has polarized this nation as much as the gun debate, and I've never heard of anybody who has ever changed their long-held beliefs and opinions because of something they read on a forum. Not me, not you, not anybody. So I won't even go there. Personally, I don't like guns, I don't own a gun, I've never owned a gun, I don't want to own a gun. I'm 60 years old and I've gotten by just fine, thank you very much.
Also, I'm not an advocate of gun control; it's not that I'm against it, per se, but it simply won't work. There's probably more guns in this nation than there are people------3 or 4 hundred million, give or take. How do you control that? Answer: you can't. It's impossible. It's totally out of control.
So what is my point? I guess I would like to point out one little thing, if I could: Guns are made for one thing and one thing only. They kill. That's all they are made for. Don't tell me that guns don't kill people. Oh yes they do....they kill plenty. They are not created to make music; they don't paint beautiful sunsets; they don't solve complex math problems. They are made for one thing only: to kill.
Now, I won't argue your 2nd Amendment right to own a gun. You have the right, and that's up to you if you want to exercise it. You can love your guns all you want, but I can guarantee you one thing: they won't love you back...................just ask the mother of the boy who did this latest massacre. Apparently, she really loved her guns. It was her guns that he used. She's dead.
So once again, a couple of dozen innocent lives have been taken; countless others have been shattered. But the gun was just used for it's intended purpose, and functioned quite well. And isn't that a "goddamned shame"?

Mebbe. But first, there has to be an afterlife..............I kinda doubt it. But one thing's for sure, though: Sooner or later, we're all going to find the answer to the ultimate question. But I think you're going to be disappointed in the answer.

The price for "Crisis Of Conscience" on Amazon is a little on the high side.........from around $100 to nearly $2000!! Worth every penny, in my opinion, but most people won't pay that. Instead, you can go to the Commentary Press website and pay $7.95 for the PDF download. I thought I might point that out for those thinking about getting it. Also, most public libraries can obtain it for free or for a very nominal charge. That's how I first read it. To those thinking about it, just get the book one way or another and read it.

14 Minutes and you are not a Servant of Jehovah
by JT inlast night we were discussing the "new light" that was revealed to the gb recently from jehovah.
many of us recall all the co talks and elder parts based on the bible text of how a true servant of jah would not be "inactive or irregular" for years one was required to have at least one hour to be considered a servant of jah.. as the sec in my hall i recall so many times calling up friends to get thier time and hearing them break crying cause they didn't have 60min only about 45min- and they knew that it meant they were not servants of jah.
now with the new light from jw a person with only 14 minutes of time will now be disqualified as being a servant of jah.. it is amazing how many jw will view this arrangement as a "loving provision from jah" instead of realizing that thier service to thier god has been reduced to whether they get 15min or 14 min.

This, folks, is what the thread is all about.......................A Watcher is clinging to his shopping cart and he's not going to let go. Leave him alone, is what I say. It's all he's got.

by Jesika inin your opinon......................should i go through with it..................................(hi simon.....long time).
on august 4th of 2008 at approximately 8:00-8:10am i was coming from the front office after receiving a green sheet for being absent on thursday, july 31st 2008. i was passing the women's restroom on my way back to class, when i saw steve walking the barren hallways.

"In your opinon......................should I go through with it"
In my opinion, you need to go through with it.
This isn't the first time Steve has done this, and it won't be the last; you need to tell somebody. He will surely deny it, and it will basically come down to your word against his, but you can feel safe that he won't bother you again. Plus, it will be in his file, and next time it will be much harder for him to deny or explain away.
I hope everything works out.

Picketing
by MAHERSHALALHASHBAZ inwhatever happened to this long lost activity?
i can remember a time when you couldn't make it from the convention doors to your car without being approached by at least one glassy-eyed apostate holding a sign or thrusting a homemade tract under your nose.
ahhhh, those were the days...

"Gee thanks for your honorable amount of tact."
You're right, FT-------------------------I was rather tactless, and I apologize.

Does anyone remember this old tv preacher?
by Tired of the Hypocrisy ini can't remember this guys name to save my life, but he used to crack me up late at night on cband sattelite back in the early 1980s.
he was sort of a judge roy bean type of guy with gray hair and he would sit there and cuss and complain and and talk about how enoch (he would call him eenick) was the model for christ.
he used to give the funniest explanations and illustrations.

Yes, I remember him, but I can't think of his name either. He was quite a maverick. I used to watch him just for the entertainment value-------------------he put on quite a show.

Way to go, AnneB and Gohan----------------------I totally agree. In my opinion, picketing does more harm than good. If it worked, then I'd be all for it, but it doesn't work. To say something like: "... if all of everyone's efforts have saved ONE person, it's not a useless measure"is ridiculous. That's the same convoluted reasoning that the society uses in justifying field service: "If all those millions of hours spent in service help even one person learn the truth, then it's time well spent." That's simply not true, and it's nothing but a waste of time.
When I was active, there was no way that I would have given a protestor the time of day. The picketing only feeds the persecution complex that all witness have and nurture, and drives them deeper inside. I remember an incident around 20 years ago at one of the last assemblies I attended: As I walked into the Civic Center, there was a group of about 20 witnesses gathered around the door, and they were watching and talking about a group of picketers who were out on the sidewalk. Suddenly, one of the sisters screamed: "WHY CAN"T THEY JUST LEAVE US ALONE?!!!" , and then she swooned and fainted and one of the brothers had to catch her and lay her down. What a ham, I thought, but everybody seemed to love it.
I can honestly say that those in-your-face opposers (combined with bad apostate reading material), delayed my exit from the Organization by at least 10 years. All I saw were these rude arrogant pests, and, even though I was having a terrible inner struggle, I just thought: "See there----the Society is right. Stick with the Organization because there's just nothing that the world has to offer." The typical "Where-Else-Can-I-Go" syndrome. So instead of looking for answers, I stayed inside and kept a lid on my thoughts.
Personally, I think that the best thing to do is leave the JW's alone and let them figure it out for themselves. Most never will, I'm afraid, but that's the only way that I was able to do it, and that's the only way everyone I know who has left the Organization has done it.
For those who are thinking about picketing, please reconsider. If you really want to help, leave the Witnesses alone. Instead, do something that's actually constructive: take your kids to a baseball game, spend time with your family or read a good book. But leave the witnesses alone.
My humble opinion.
