Re: What do you do for a living?
by MARTINLEYSHON inas many of you are aware being brought up in the organisation, there was a general directive from the wt that secular education was good, but not encouraged as far as university and further education was concerned.
many witnesses left school in the 70s with no formal qualifications.
my question therefore is 2 fold.. 1. what would you have liked to become as far as your career is concerned?.

I'm into the stock market. Not that good at it though. I now use mechanical investing as my strategy. I also manage my retirement annuity and have been doing well. You may be better posting in a different forum though, most people here are into posting about post JW life.

What are the most insincere things JWs say?
by Spectrum init really makes me angry when they say i love jehovah.
they don't know what they are talking about.
if they read with an open mind the carry-ons of this cruel mesopotanian god they would feel ridiculous and embarrassed for putting this god before their family, their children.

Brothers and Sisters on this forum, it disturbs me to hear you speak speak in such disparaging tones about our loving brotherhood. We realize that many of you are depressed and suffered setbacks but rest assured, the governing body loves you and appreciates all the hard work and sacrifices you have made in the past. You are always welcome at the local kingdom hall where loving spiritual shepherds will grease you with healing oil and provide nourishing spiritual counsel to restore you back to health. Please avail yourself to these spiritual provisions.

Hemoglobin-Based Oxygen Carriers - August 2006 Awake!
by AnnOMaly ini think this is the first clear, official statement regarding hemoglobin-based products.
awake!
august 2006, front page title "blood: why so valuable?".

actually, the society changed its' blood policy several years ago without telling the R & F. Hemoglobin transfusions were a disfellowshipping offense until I believe 2000. That's when the new policy about the main components went into affect. I found out about it in 2002 by accident (an elder who has contact with the Hospital Liaison Committee informed him). Checked it out on the Ajwrb.org and saw a video where a spokesman for the society in the Netherlands stated that the society was getting away from deciding on fractionated blood components. Hence products like hemopure could now be taken without fear of reprisal from the organization at that time. In 2004 the society makes public it's new policy to the R & F.
see website below for the societies evolution on blood

Sheperding call imminent, some advice needed
by Glorfindel ingreetings all.. let me first introduce myself.
i am a current active jw.
i know full well that being a member on these forums, reading and posting constitute "bad association" by wt definitions, which can land me in quite a bit of trouble.

thecarpenter
Hello glorfindel and welcome! You mentioned that you are a active witness and from your profile, you are 17.
Also, I do not plan on getting thrown out of the WT just yet, because there are some in my family who are witnesses, and I have no intention of forcing them to shun me. I know that despite my secrecy, there are ways to find out just where I am generally.
When you talk like this, it show me you have serious doubts about the organization, you really shouldn't even be thinking about baptism. Once a baptized witness is disfellowshipped, the brutality of the arrangement shows full force and takes many people by surprise. As some of the other posters mentioned, don't let the elders know where you are getting the organization history from. Just one or two questions and then mention you don't feel ready for baptism. (they will try to pressure you but don't fall for it).
I hope you start looking for friendships outside the organization, maybe with other conscientious youths your age. Look hard, you will find them.
And one more thing, keep studying and checking up, this is how you protect yourself from tragic mistakes.
good luck

I'm going to get out
by Sacchiel inhey everyone, i've been examining my faith and found it doesn't stand up to biblical theology.
its going to be hard since a lot family and friends will very likely repudiate me.
i have taken some steps to introduce topics to my family that will get them to analyze the wt teachings.

The idea of fading away sounds better though, but how can I continue doing this? By avoiding everyone/some?
Well the idea is to slowly decrease your meeting attendance and field service activity until you totally stop altogether in a year or two. When the elders start to inquire, you don't have to tell them the whole truth. Tell them you are busy with other things (ex: school, work, so on). When others start to avoid you (including the elders), this is a opportunity to see who your friends really are (this maybe a surprising time for you). Those who still talk to you and hang out with you are the ones who are a little more independent minded, and under less control of the elders. Then mention your doubts to them and let them express their doubts to you. Take it one step at a time.
Also use this time to develop non-witness friends (college campus or high school depending how old you are, various clubs, take a dance class to meet chicks, etc...). Also use this time to develop friendships with non-witness relatives.
Remember thought, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL THE ELDERS YOUR TRUE FEELINGS ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION, BE ELUSIVE AND DON'T ARGUE WITH THEM. Anything you tell tell them can and will be used against you in a Judicial Committee. (you should read the horror stories of those who tried to be honest with the elders)
I sure there are others on the forum who can mention some of their experiences in fading and what they did.
Good Luck

Hey sacchiel. welcome to the forum.
Why is it necessary to disassociate yourself? Why not just fade away from the meetings? This way, you retain your family and friends for a while longer while you develop more social contacts on the outside. Its less traumatic emotionally this way while giving you more time to find those fed up with the society. I slowly faded away over a two years and haven't been to a meeting in months. I have also helped two people so far to see the light about the organization. In fact, there are two friend from my congregation who are fading right now and two from another congregation that have successfully faded. We still maintain our witness contacts where necessary and retain family contacts. I know we are viewed as spiritually weak but really it doesn't make a difference.
Presently, I am using my time to study more, relax a bit and prepare for college in the fall (going back after all these years, can't wait).
I hope this helps.

The Global Flood and Antarctica - Can we have both?
by mavie ina thought came to me this morning in the shower.
i was thinking about ice cores scientists have drilled in antarctica from which they can measure conditions that existed 650,000 years ago.
this got me thinking, how could antarctica have been around that long if the global flood as described in genesis really happened?
