Hello Andre, unfortunately, this is a common tactic with some elders. I have known elders who deliberately go to the kids to try and get information out of them. They phrase questions subtly to get them to tell on their parents or other family members. I know of some elders who tried to recruit spies to check on people (even other elders), as Frannie posted

I probably would think that this story is basically true. In the US about a year ago, a escaped convict who had just murdered someone had taken a woman hostage. As time wore on, she started preaching to him (she is not a jdub) and he started feeling bad about holding her hostage. He eventually let her go and turned himself in. (I was listening to it on the radio as it was happening and listen to her interview a few days later) When the 'Passion of the Christ' came out in the theatre, there were spikes in church attendance in many places as well as people turning themselves in to police for past crimes that they felt regret over, even crimes such as murder. Most people have a conscious and a belief in God and if someone works on it and that person comes across as genuine good person, I can see a hard exterior soften. I think two jdub women sharing their beliefs about God and pricking the conscience of some would-be carjacker is not a great stretch of imagination, it may have very well happened that way. I for one try to respect peoples faith (not always successful in that) and sometimes if I think the person is a good person, I will help a little more. Just my two cents
oh, so in the midst of everything else, college is goin well.. about 30 % of my high school graduating class came here, so its really just like high school part2.
i have 2 morning classes, and 2 night classes, so that way the majority of my schooling gets done on 2 days of the week instead of 4. last night was my first night in my english 111 class.
i already knew thaqt there was one witness in there, but its someone who i've kept up with, and someone who is cool with me, as i am.

i saw something on this subject a few years ago in a publication from brooklyn but can't find it now.

my son just informed me that his grandfather left him and his brother, (his only grandsons) , money for their education.. i had no idea, of the amount but it did make sense to me...a suposed $50,000.00 but the will was on a small personal computer and promptly erased by someone in my mom's kh at her request.. she has in the mean time shunned me, and low and behold sent $200,000.00 to the society.
this tires me beyond belief.. thanks for listneing....i am feeling crazy!.
Actually, you can contest the will. I spoke with a elder about this last year and he mentioned that the society doesn't want to go to court fighting surviving family members and is willing to settle out of court. It could mean a extra $20 grand or more in your pocket as long as the society get the bulk. This happened in my congregation, a sister died and gave her house to the bOrg. The surviving non-witness family decided to fight and recovered a portion of the selling price of the house. The brother who was handling the matter was a bethel elder and he was told the societies position of this matter. (it is hush hush of course)

personally, I feel sadness. I think most witnesses came in with the best of intentions and a lot of ideals about serving God. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a high control christian group that sucked away lives, aspirations and resources with false hopes and predictions. I'm glad I got out but I feel sad for the rest.</div>

You know honestly, this is one of the things I miss about the organization. It was nice having instant friends/associates where ever I went. I would think you will find similar types of things in other religious meetups. But I don't want it if it means I have to accept all the crap. Then all you have in common is that you both brought the crap.
in my case, i never did much research or read alot of apostate literature to get out of the jw religion.
all i looked at was their heart and how they treated me.
that alone spoke for itself..
I did do some research first, started using quickverse 6.0 in my studying about 5 years ago and realized that there legitimate points by other bible scholars. Interestingly, I actually stopped using the software because I was discovering too many problems with the society's doctrine and what legitimate bible scholars were saying, it was leading to a lot of disquieting thoughts. Also researched the use of the cross as the instrument of Christ death and found out that it was in fact more likely Christ died on a cross rather than a stake (this was done after seeing the Mel Gibson movie 'Passion of the Christ' and a brother used that as a reason it was a worthless movie, it motivated me to research the topic more closely); started looking at sites like freeminds.com and others which confirmed suspicions I had toward the org. Finally took the last step and read Ray Franz's book 'Crises of Conscience' and that was it, I couldn't go to another meeting. I had a epiphany and realized I was conned. Did anyone have a moment like that? It was like I reached the tipping point and everything fell together; I was really stunned for a few days as I let it all sink in. It was worth it though!
i posted awhile back, been "lurking" pretty much daily over the past months and from reading everyone's posts - i actually have gotten to know some of you... sort of... if you read my profile you will know i was a lifer, pretty much knee deep in the 'borg (picking up the slang.... i stopped cold turkey last fall - didn't go to memorial, special assembly day, district convention, circuit assembly... no field service in almost a year... these are all firsts... and i am 40 years old.... guess what, i have ignored phone calls, messages from the cong elders, everyone was panic'd for the first 3 months or so... then it all stopped... no calls... they have written me off i guess... of course it has helped that i moved 45 minutes south of my congo, back to my home town - where everyone in the congs around here know me... the rumor mill has told them something is up, but since i'm not df or da, they don't know how to act - so they just ignore me.... i just need to vent abit - feeling down lately because of the things i have learned - feeling betrayed by my parents for joining such a cult.
blaming jw's for ruining my sister's lives, blaming jw's for wasting my life... i want to go to a meeting and yell during the public talk about how foolish everyone is for belonging to this cult... .
it seems i have accepted the loss all of my conditional friends - hundreds of them in central indiana... i see them at the mall, at restaurants and they look right past me... kinda funny now, but it still hurts when my former friends - even the best man at my wedding - refuses to talk to me or even call to ask what is going on and why i stopped... i am invisible.

I suggest when you can make some time, read combatting cult mind control by steve hassan. Many smart people get duped into cult groups because they don't realize the dynamics working on them when they first start associating with them. Many times they play on peoples sense of trust which is what makes cults and cult-like groups so insideous. Once you understand more fully, it may get easier to forgive your parents, even many of the friends in the congo. Really, they are victums as well without even realizing it. At least you realize it. Keep talking my friend, let it all out and get it out of your system. You will feel better in time.
