I just wrote a 6 page letter
by Kero-kero ini addressed it to a couple of elders.
one elder i feel i can trust and one elder is in the congregation i used to attend.....*cough* still assigned to....it is just a letter which expresses my concerns and doubts and personal issues with the wts and congregation(s) i did not go it to much detail but it should be enough for them to at least understand my veiw point.
i have asked if they could reply to me...or at least make some kind of comment...even if it to just try and ease my doubts and concerns.

This is an odd example of a Witness at my door, any one heard of this?
by free2beme inabout two weeks ago i was in the front yard on a saturday and washing one of the cars.
i looked down the street and saw two woman in dresses walking from house to house, with a young child in a suit.
of course, i knew they were witnesses and i knew they would be at my door soon.

I live in a area that has different language groups (I've actually attended a non-english congo for a while) and we were instructed not to witness to english speaking people because the english brothers would take care of them.

Where or what would you be today, if you would have never became a JW?
by JH in.
often i wonder what i would be doing or even where would i be living, if i would have never met the jw's back in the late 80's.. maybe it wouldn't have made any difference, or on the contrary, maybe a huge difference.
the only way to really know would be to go back in time and change what happened and that's impossible.. .

Well it is hard to say..... I was pursuing a career in tax/finance law when I started studying with the JW's. At this point, since shutting the JW philosophy out of my head, I am comtemplating another go at it part-time. I have a great job right now so money is not the issue but I always wanted to finish college and now I can pursue it without feeling guilty. And there are other worthwhile pursuits I want to take a look at.....

the Power of Prayer?
by darcy ini was reading through the 'why i hate god' thread', and reflecting on my own experience with prayer.
i think the one most... relieving?
point was when i realized that i when i prayed i wasn't really trying to talk to jehovah, but i was talking myself through my own life.

I pray everyday, several times a day. I do believe in God and I do believe he hears.
He may not answer my prayer but that doesn't stop me from praying.
That doesn't mean I don't take control of my life, I feel you do everything you reasonable can do (proactiviness) and then let God handle the rest. -

I find myself at this point in the same camp as Arthur, lovelylilly and JH. Although I no longer accept many of the teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses, I still have a fundamental belief in the bible and that God inspired men to write it. I don't feel that it is without error because the men who wrote it are imperfect but the spirit of what is being said is God inspired. I personally feel that people are better off following the scriptures (although imperfectly) than to totally reject it and many of it ethical principles.
Of course, I have a healthy respect for science and empirical methods and I intend to dig a little deeper into evolution, archaeology and geology in the coming years but I don't feel this will uproot my belief system, but rather to help clarify some things a little bit. Trevor make a good point of having a rational approach toward religion, it has been used to uproot lives. But for me, there is too much intelligent design for there not to be a God, in fact creation is awe inspiring.
Lovelylilly makes a nice point...
Lastly, I believe that it is not important to understand everything in the bible in order to believe it is God inspired or for it to have relevance in our lives and in our faith. Because love is more important than our head knowledge or understanding all scripture. And were we are lacking in understanding, love will cover us.

There are a lot of events that go on at that time.
Lincoln Center (65th st on the westside) has a free evening outdoor salsa concert. Lots of people go there including a lot of JW young adults. (they don't have to know your status)
http://www.lincolncenter.org/default.asp (check out Midsummer Night Swing on the list)
You have to stop by South Street Seaport, it has free concerts, plenty of restaurants and a lovely view of the east river, Brooklyn bridge and of the Big Watchtower sign.

In fact, why don't you do a little experiment? Tell your Witness friends you've been having these really cool conversations online with former members and see how they react. I guarantee you'll see eyes a-poppin'. Then, to really work them up, give them some of the details of what you've been talking about. I 'm telling you, you'll see grown adults putting their fingers in their ears, running around yelling "la-la-la, I can't hear you!" (And please do report if you try this!)
Hey Seattleniceguy, this paragraph had me laughing so hard, I had to clean the computer screen from the coffee I coughed out.

congregations disbanded
by Fleshybirdfodder innot sure if it is the correct terminology, but i've heard of a few instances where the society had to step in and completely "delete" a congregation because of issues with incompetent elders and out of control publishers.
i've never heard specifics.
does this actually happen?

Well in the tri-state area MY, NJ and CN, many congregations have merged because the friends stop going to the meetings and the attendance keeps dropping. One brother in NY said to me that something like 20 congregations have merged in the last 3 years. So one of the congos is dissolved when that happens.
