Are JW's cold people?
by JH in.
in all the years i attended meetings, i don't recall seeing anyone kiss anyone there....... all i saw were handshakes.. not even any hugs.. i thought of this a few days ago, when my cousin came over to visit my old parents, and when he left, he gave a warm handshake and slight hug to my dad and hugged and kissed my mom on each cheek.. you don't see this at the kh.

Actually, in the English congregations it is very cold, way too rigid. If you go the the foreign congregations, such as the Spanish, Portuguese, French, etc... you will see a lot of hugging, kissing and warm expressions of affection. It is integral part of their culture. What I have noticed though is when the brothers in charge are more serious such as what you see in the English, the warmth starts to cool off.

you guys are telling apostate half truths, Broadway Joe did not wear pantyhose. You can't trust the media because they are against Jah's organizational football team.

maybe since they think armageddon is so close that now they are trying to appease god so that they don't get destroyed. nothing like the fear of god to remind people how they should act.

Jehovah Witnesses are not brainwashed...
by thecarpenter ini am currently reading steve hassan's book on combating cult mind control and i came across a very interesting point about the difference between brainwashing and mind control.
brainwashing is a coercive type of control in which a idea is forced on you with little choice.
people who are brainwashed know they are being indoctrinated; their freedom is cut off.

That also reminds me,
Part of their mind control is they make you think you are as close to happy as you can get
That was how I felt. I really thought the same level of happiness I had as a jw couldn't possibly exist anywhere else, so for most of my time in the org I never considered looking elsewhere for happiness. Of course, the wts endorsed this by telling us those who leave become very sad individuals, because they have left the source of ultimate happiness, and most of us, including me, believed it.
Lo-ru-hamah and fullofdoubtnow this is another one of the warnings that Steven Hassan gave in his book. Essentially he mentioned how cults like to paint up a fantasy world, a illusion of what it is like to serve and be in their organization. They constantly speak of the joys they have now as opposed to what it is like on the outside. I remember how the organization used to stress the joys of our spiritual paradise and pioneering over and over again.
When I was pioneering, I remember thinking to myself, where is this joy that pioneers are supposed to have, I'm miserable. Also, there was the constant drivel of a spiritual paradise that we have because we are part of the bOrg collective. Honestly, I did feel happy for a little while until I started realizing that things were not going the way the organization said they would. Problems started cropping up that were getting tougher and tougher to deal with. Interestingly, if plain common sense was used and the organizational rhetoric ignored, many of these problems would have been taken care of before they became problems. But obviously, organization concerns such as selling their magazines and books concerning their interpretations of the bible must take precedence.

Had dinner with some worldly friends, WTBTS is full of it
by thecarpenter injust had dinner with some worldly friends and relatives and what a great time i had.
it was sobering to think that i cut them out for so long and yet they are such nice people.
we were conditioned to believe that they were bad influences and were demon possessed but actually are quite decent and church going people with real strengths and weaknesses like everyone else.

Just had dinner with some worldly friends and relatives and what a great time I had. It was sobering to think that I cut them out for so long and yet they are such nice people. We were conditioned to believe that they were bad influences and were demon possessed but actually are quite decent and church going people with real strengths and weaknesses like everyone else. Our conversations focused on religion, marriage, children, jokes, business, politics and a host of other things. They were well read and contributed important points to the conversation (quite a change from the usual dribble from my jdub associates). I am truly sorry to have cut them off for so long but it is great to have such company now.
On a similar note, I am taking some hobby classes and met some really nice people (met a doctor, elementary school teacher, investment banker, musician, and many interesting people) during the sessions. Afterward, the teacher and some students put on a dance performance that was really cool.
When I think back at the level of mind control in the congregation, it seems absolutely absurd that anyone would willingly put themselves under the control of these 12 guys in Brooklyn who supposedly possess the correct interpretation of worshipping God. Thinking about the policies the society has in place as well as the misguided doctrine, it is no wonder that there is such a intellectual void in the organization. The jdubs pay an enormous price to be witnesses of a publishing company, it's very sad. Unfortunately, the bOrg is not the only high control organization out there.
Has your experience integrating back into society been this rewarding? I find myself looking forward to associating more with my newfound friends. I can't wait to start school again as well as checking out different nondenominational churches. This to me is what Jehovah intended his people to be like.
