  scholar....don't you get sarcasm when you read it? Truthfully - I only meant that it is one of many books you could use to research the JW religion. To research something you should be willing to listen to both sides - positive and negative.

  I am now a born again Christian - but I still continue to research my beliefs - I don't think people should ever stop listening and having an open mind. For me that means I need to listen to what athiests have to say as well as other religious beliefs (yes...including JW and Mormon) - then research it and make my decision.

  IMHO: The only person in a spiritual vacuum is the one who thinks they already know all there is to know and are no longer searching.

  one of the big issues affecting ex-jws is being shunned by their close relatives.

  this can be especially painful for parents, children or siblings.

  the jw relative may even make some exceptions to associate in the name of "necessary" business, but then later on their conscience "pricks" them, and they realize that they have pushed the envelope too much and they withdraw their association altogether ... or ... the society comes out with some article or the co comes to town, and manage to ding on some issue that make jws feel guilty about associating with df'd and da'd relatives.

  This is used by my family also. My father was an elder and still associated with me - we even went out to dinner together, went shopping, and I took them on a trip. Since he passed on I spend even more time with my mother. We actually do talk about the bible from time to time - I am just careful not to attack the organization - I will present questions to her, but not in a threatening manner. But 90% of our conversations revolve around just every day things.

  It has worked for us - then again, as posted previously, my family has been "faithful" for many years. Also, my mother is now quite elderly and relies on my husband and I to help her out - so I suppose those in the congregation just ignore the fact that I am taking her out to lunch, shopping, movies, etc since I'm also taking care of her yard and her house for her - plus I give her rides to the meetings when she needs them so they must think I'm ok. Of course I'm OK! She's 70 years old - if she wants to go to the meeting I take her - it's not my place to make those decisions for her - it's just my place to love her and take care of her.

Therefore, everyone should ask himself: 'Is my way of worship acceptable to God? Am I genuinely interested in learning the truth of God's Word? Or am I afraid of what a careful investigation might reveal?'

  um.......yea....so.........tell me again why I would get in trouble for reading Crisis of Conscience?

  Interesting Hamas - I never thought of it that way. But I was always bothered with innocent people dying in these instances.

  Gambling

  since i left the dubs i have dabbled a bit with the lottery...a scratch off ticket here or there...but nothing major.

  recently i have gotten to know a few people that seem to gamble quite a bit.

  we went to the horse races a few weeks ago and i bet on one of the horses that a friend owns...lol fortunately not much as i lost.

  Gambling is fine....as long as you realize it's just for entertainment and don't expect to win big. Some people however can't see it that way and then have a problem with it. For me - I have a blast going to Reno every few years - play some slot machines, drink a little, see a few shows. It's a nice vacation! But hubby and I only take as much $$ as we plan to loose. Fortunately - we've either come out ahead or broke even on our trips.

  i work at an elementary school part time supervising children.

  i love my job and being around those kids.

  having been a witness kid and having been raised in an alcohol crazed environment, i have a soft spot for those little ones who are the victims of adult irresponsibility and heartbreaking circumstances.

  My heart goes out to those little ones. I guess it is better to be raised by JW parents that really love you and take care of you, than by abusive parents that beat you and neglect you. Either way you end up with mental problems and emotional baggage - but at least if his JW-foster mom loves him and cares for him he may end up more stable than the alternative.

  I work in the criminal justice field and have seen way too many child abuse cases - extreme cases - I can't imagine anything worse than that - yes.....even being raised by "normal" JW parents is better than being raised by an abusive parent.

  Hubby's gone hunting and I'm on a break from school.....done with work for the weekend....and just catching up on postings. I haven't had time to visit much lately so just dropping in to say..

  I MISSED YA'LL!! I love this place. People here really understand......and get my jokes..well...sometimes.

  one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.

  they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.

  i was once counselled for joking around too much.

  If they would spend 1/2 as much time and effort actually SHEPHERDING as they do ABUSING the sheep ... just think how much more successful that organization would be.

  Thanks so much for your kind comments

  It made me cry when I put it together last year - but it felt good to get it done and share it as a tribute. My friend took one of the CD copies and passed it onto her friend in the military - last I heard it had made a few rounds there too.

  I think it's important that we don't ever forget those heroes that rushed to the scene to save lives - they are forever in my thoughts and prayers. I am thankful for them and for our military. I may not always agree with my country and it's foreign affairs - but I sure do have respect for those that are willing to die for my freedom and safety.
