Years ago I worked as a secretary to the president of a large corporation. My desk was at the main entrance to the head office where a lot of the "top dogs" came and went. One came in to see the head honcho, and I was getting up to go into his office and announce the visitor. As I pushed my chair back from the desk, apparently there was something small behind me that stopped the wheel of the chair - unfortunately the momentum of the chair kept going and I ended up falling backwards, landed still in seated position in the chair with my back on the ground and my legs straight up in the air. To add to the embarassment of my gracefulness - I was wearing a short skirt. So the "visitor" got a full view of my panties. Oh how embarassing!

What is with the Witnesses in this area???
by Dolllie in.
"they are in my opinion, a disgrace!
" i have posted about their racest practices & unwillingness to distribute watchtowers & awake magazines to everyone on prior occasions..... i "finally" see one of them distributing the magazines at the bus stop and she is walking along "with a cigarette hanging out the side of her mouth", smoking while she is doing it.. the witnesses in this area need a better attitude about what they are doing!!

Well what do you think of this picture I took of 2 sisters who were supposed to be on a coffee break on a Saturday morning, and I caught them in my bar !!
Why didn't I think of that? I could have racked up pioneer hours back in my party days! Darn it :(

What is LDS ?
by Tyre insorry, that's a silly questions.. i would like to know what is lds/mormon.

Hi Susan:
I agree with your statement:
Basically, LDS are people who are family oriented, education oriented, very mainstream Americans, very patriotic, independent thinkers (if they are following the teachings which require it), good neighbors, great parents, true friends to LDS and non-LDS alike, compassionate, Christ-centered and totally sincere
I have a few LDS friends and they are very sincere. The problem with LDS, as I see it, is the same problem with the JW's. Both religions believe that only a selected few (or one) receives insight and revelations from God - so they are in control of the majority. Jesus clearly stated that it was HE who was the mediator between God and Man. He alone. Both LDS and JW's put their organization in that path between God and man. A person can not correctly interpret the bible (or other scriptures) without the help of the organization. This is a doctrine that is not founded in scripture - and it leads to worship of the organization rather than worship of the Lord.
On the flip side. I do not believe that a person can not have a personal relationship with God just because he/she is LDS or JW. If a person is sincere and searches for God - he/she will find him regardless of where they choose to worship. On that issue I differ with most of mainstream christianity in that I view both JW's and LDS individuals as brothers and sisters. Not the organizations - but the people.
I studied LDS for a short time, got the book of mormon and read part of it because I was curious. But I couldn't get past the idea that I could not research the foundations upon which the claims that this book was inspired were made. For example, there is in existence scrolls of the book of Daniel and Isaiah that date well before Christ's birth which prophesy about him (how he would be born, where, when, how he would die, etc). So on this I can at least say I believe in Jesus and I accept these two books of the bible as inspired. However, there is no physical evidence in existence today to prove that the scriptures found in the book of mormon were written prior to Joseph Smith's translation of them.
After having been duped as a JW (because I was raised that way) - my general rule of thumb now is not to accept something as fact if I can not research the foundations upon which that fact is based.

In Reality, Are Jehovah's Witnesses A Divided Group???
by minimus injws are supposed to be a "united people".
do you believe that is true?
?
-
Dawn
They're not really "united". They will outwardly say they all believe the same thing - but in reality, many JW's have questions and other beliefs they're afraid to air in public.
To be united means to share the same belief/goals freely - the JW's are not free to believe - they're told what to belief and they have to conform or be thrown out.
Anytime you get 100 people to say the exact same thing - it's mind control, pure and simple!

I'll tell you what I believe
by ballistic inand that's apart from "shit happens".
the jehovah's witness "organisation" is a religion you can be brought up in and live your whole life and still not know god.. is this true of other religions?
i can only tell you of my own experience.

I agree with PointBlank. It's not about where you go to church. Church is just a tool - a place to worship, meet others that have the same goals/ideas as you - and a place to organize charity for the community.
God exists outside of all of religion.

So evidently keeping the congo clean by making it unbearble for teenagers
In the long run - they're doing them a favor! The harder it is to stay a JW, the more of them that will eventually escape.

Quite often I am surpised at how my JW thinking still controls me without my knowledge. And the stark differences between the JW idea of "christianity" and idea of "christianity" displayed by the church I now attend.
I work in a children's ministry music program . I've been doing it for two years now, and this week I was reading an e-mail I was cc'd on where the ministry leader explained that the policy of the church is for anyone involved in leadership to be a member, or working towards membership. Although I have now been attending regularly for over three years, and have been baptised, I've never moved towards membership. I just can't - the thought of it brings up way too many bad feelings. JW's always misquote that scripture in John saying Peter's response was "where shall we go?" - when in fact it's "to WHO shall we go". I feel that membership in any religious organization is not necessary - it's not about WHERE we go to worship, but WHO we worship. Becoming a "member" to me just kind of feels like I'm right back in an alliegance to an earthly organization and I CAN'T do that again.
I was so bummed - I was convinced that I'd have to remove myself from this ministry that I love so much because...well...it's POLICY, and we all know how policy and rules are handled by JW's - NO EXCEPTIONS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. So - without question, I assumed that was the way it always was. I wrote a long e-mail to the ministry leader explaining my feelings and just decided to accept whatever decision was made.
To my suprise - she contacted me within an hour and said "don't worry about it. - we made an exception for you". I was confused - EXCEPTION - what do you mean EXEPTION? She explained that rules are necessary as a general standard or you end up with chaos - but they're not a legalistic church. They don't live by rules - they live by grace. She had asked the pastor what his thoughts were and he said the rule wasn't as important as the heart.
Then she made a comment that really blew me away - she said their standard was "if you're going to err...err on the side of grace".
WOW! What a different concept of christianity - and here I was still thinking legalistic like a JW and mad at myself for not being able to follow a rule instead. Whether or not you believe in christianity - I think it's helpful to recognize the difference between the JW view of it and what it really SHOULD be.
So - how many of us would still be JW's had we been shown grace - if the elders had said "if you're going to err...err on the side of grace"?
It's easy for me now to say I still wouldn't be a JW - but honestly, had I been shown grace, I probably would have stayed. Then again - I would never have experienced the wonderful freedom I now have and have been able to grow so much emotionally AND intellectually.
