Thanks SF - I saw your posting on the other thread.
I always fall for these darn &**!!!
hi lotus:.
you indicated in your post earlier that you wanted to know what we thought needed to be changed.
well - rather than go into a huge list that initiates a biblical interpretation debate .

lotus - thanks for your post.
i know you'll get a lot of food throwing from us "not so patient" ex-jw's, but i'm sure your intentions are sincere.. i'm posting my response to your comments on being annointed here as i noticed that you are new and would probably see it here first.
however, may i suggest that if you would like to continue a discussion on these topics with me, let's move it to the "beliefs & doctrines" form as it's probably more appropriate.. that being said - you are not one of the "elect few" with a heavenly hope, but one of many.
Man oooooooo peeeties!!! I've been duped .
Wish I wasn't so gullable!!

Hi Lotus:
You indicated in your post earlier that you wanted to know what we thought needed to be changed. Well - rather than go into a huge list that initiates a biblical interpretation debate - I thought I'd simplify this first post by listing a few things that I really enjoy now as a born-again christian and missed out on as a JW - things that were not allowed as a JW for which I have found no scriptural basis:
(1) Listening to Christian Rock music. I love rock/pop music and have found a number of great Christian groups that have the music I like with uplifting lyrics. Why are these not allowed as a JW?
(2) Being free to question doctrine (or new light) that I don't understand or doesn't sit right with me - without fear of discipline - no matter how long I've been a Christian (or JW).
(3) Sunday school - My daughter now attends Sunday School and loves it!! She is learning about the bible at a level she can understand and enjoy. In fact - she looks forward to church!! When I was growing up I had to sit at the meetings 5 hrs a week and got spanked if I acted up (what 4 year old doesn't?!!). I didn't learn much except to dread meetings. I can find no biblical basis for not having Sunday school - and we all know the Society has the means to incorporate this!
(4) Keeping time records - why must JW's report their time and magazine/book placements? Why is a JW's priviledges based on their time spent in field service? Where is the biblical basis for that?!! Shouldn't our sharing the gospel be from the heart, and compelled by the holy spirit? I am amazed at how many christians & churches out there really do witness (a lot!!!) - in informal activities, outreach programs, missionaries, charity work, etc. Why do the JW's dictate how/when the witnessing work must be done?
(5) Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandparent's Day....What's wrong with those?!!
(6) Cigarettes - They're awful, unhealthy, nasty..but... I don't see a biblical basis for them being a disfellowshipping matter. After all "Everthing is permissible but not everyuthing is beneficial...1 Cor 10:23, and Jesus said at Matthew 15:11 "What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,'...". That being said, while I think cigarettes are so harmfull they should be completely obliterated - that's my OPINION...there is no scriptural basis that the society has to make them a disfellowshipping matter.
I have a whole list to go on with...but I think 6 is enough for now.
lotus - thanks for your post.

That being said - You are not one of the "elect few" with a heavenly hope, but one of many. Please re-read Revelation Chatper 7 (not just a verse or two, the entire chapter - Rev. 1:3 "Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy...").
You'll notice, that yes 144,000 are in heaven, but read on in verse 9 - where is the "Great Crowd"? Before the throne of God. Where is the Throne of God? in Heaven! In fact, if you re-read the entire book of Revelation, you will see that both the 144,000 and the great crowd are all in heaven until after Armageddon.
Jesus said "I am the way" - it is through Jesus and Jesus alone that we are saved. I am a born again chrisitian now, and based on the bible I believe in a heavenly hope.

Met my hubby when I was dating his best friend ...
I'm really not that bad!! His friend and I split up, then he called me about 3 months later and asked me out to lunch. By then his friend was totally in love with a new girlfriend and didn't care. So they're still friends (whew.......!!). We've been together ever since - 12 1/2 years.
(ps - and yes...he still has his best friend too
hi guys and girls.
i sent my dfed sis a thread from the board here that was a pedophile topic and she replied back with stories of her own.. makes you wonder how much of this goes on that we never here about!.
here is what she wrote:.
Quite a few years ago there was a "brother" in our cong. that was molesting his step-daughter. She was about 11 years old.
Someone (I don't know who) reported it to the police and that's how it got out. The elders publicly reproved him and took away some of his priviledges for a while - that's all. At the same time, I was df'd because I slept with my boyfriend and they didn't consider me repentant.
What really bothered me is that his wife got in trouble because she raised a fuss about him and refused to reconcile with him.
At the same time all of this was going on, my JW friend at the time had a husband who we found out was abusing her little girl. He went to prison for a couple of years and part of the sentence was that he was to have no contact with the victim ever again. Well, her mother moved with the 2 kids to be closer to the prison (can you believe that?!!) - when he got out she let him move back in and he abused her daughter AGAIN!! The second time he was put away for 11 years. And to top it off - she was still a JW and shunned me because I had been DF'd for fornication. Not that I cared - I wouldn't have her as a friend any longer anyways. Anyone who doesn't protect their children is *&!! in my book!
for those that are dis-fellowshipped or dis-associated: do you speak to jw's even though they know you're disfellowshipped or dis-associated?
Whenever I run into elders they're always very friendly and want to know how things are going with my mom (a recent widow - my dad was an elder).
As for everyone else, I run into them quite a bit. I smile and say hi - a few have smiled back but that's it. In fact they go out of their way to avoid me. If I go into an isle in the store that they're in they'll quickly leave and go to another isle - sometimes I just follow them around for fun - then sometimes I just go about my business - depends on my mood.
There are a TON of them at the gym where I have a membership, I used to feel really uncomfortable there because I would always run into 2 or 3 of them, and I go about 4 times a week. But now I've made a lot of other friends there, and a number of people from my new church have joined so I don't feel so alone there.
i was just listening to my new nicole c. mullen cd (she rocks!!
) and i had this thought...... i really enjoy christian rock music now, but i had never listened to it as a jw because i wasn't allowed.
so instead i listened to that every uplifting ac/dc, metalica, scorpions (still favorites of mine).. the society did release the "kingdom melodies" on tape though and everyone bought the complete set.....did anyone here ever really enjoy that music?
Don't worry refiners - I didn't take it personally

Sorry refiners.....I'm still fairly new here and hadn't seen the other threads. Although I should have known it's probably been discussed a few times before. After all - they're such classics
you buy a state lottery ticket with a motherlode of a jackpot similar to one in california recently.. lo and behold you alone win the $300,000,000.. before and after the next meeting you share your joy with the brothers and sisters.
some are naturally curious to know what percentage you plan on donating to the world wide preaching work and local congregation?.
how do you respond?.
They'd probably announce my disfellowshipping at the next meeting due to my gambling (which is forbidden). Therefore - I wouldn't have to share a dime since they're shunning me and can't ask for any
If I wasn't DF'd - I wouldnt donate a dime anyways - I never did.
But I would give to my favorite charities - kid's charities!!
