Hey sspo -- if you gently mouse-over the image, there will appear a little box in the lower right corner. Click it and it goes to actual image size. Hope that works for you.
It' sooo nice to see goose-egg growth in a lot of modern countries.

just wondering how many of us are nurses?
i'm a licenced practical nurse (working on my rn degree), and i work as a cosmetic dermatology specialist.
i see about 10 to 16 patients per day, doing things like laser hair removal treatments, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, skin care consultations, etc.
A lab tech... Merfi, is that a job you enjoy? If so, how long did the schooling take, and is the pay decent?
I love love love my job! For many reasons. It's different every day (with ER, inpatients, outpatients etc) so never is boring. It's interesting to me because it's science/biology/chemistry, which have always been my favorite things. And it changes and moves forward all the time. Like I said up there, I get to interact with lots of medical personnel, not just nurses. We work with the docs, other lab techs, EMTs, x-ray techs and so on. It really feels like a team effort most of the time. :)
I'm a four-year tech (went to that dreaded college) with a BS degree in Medical Technology. There are also two-year techs. The pay is all over the board... A straight out of school 2-year tech can start around here, at between $13-17/hr. Four-year techs can start at $20+/hr. That's Iowa rates -- higher cost of living areas pay much much better. I could prolly pull down around $30-35+ in Cali, ie.
Every day I'm thankful that I bucked the JW system on that college thing and went on. I'm a single mom of three and making it mostly on my wages as the sperm donor is never current on child support... So I'm pretty thankful that I do what I do. :) Not just because I enjoy it, but also because it feeds us. Perfect package.

Not exactly a nurse, but still in the medical world. I'm a lab tech, so get to interact with lots of cool nurses.

i was just researching some things and saw an article scan from 4-15-88 watchtower.
it talks of an unrepentant "wrongdoes", like a son who was a drunkard and glutton, and if he was unrepentant when brought before the judges, his parents would have a part in executing him.
my mom had said to me last time she was here..."it's a good thing we are not in bible times, you would be stoned!
This is basically what the elders in my JC told me -- that if I'd lived in those times, I'd be deserving of death. Thanks guys.
It was one of the catalysts of my DA a couple days after that.

i hope you all had a great thanksgiving..... my husband was so inspired he went up to the attic and dragged down our tree the same day (the 23)... i have been decorating for 2 days serenaded by vince geraldi's charlie brown christmas music.
for some reason it feels extra special this year.
perhaps because after waffling for years with the witnesses i was finally able to let go this summer after finding this site.. so when are you putting up your christmas tree?.
This is my first "free" Christmas, so it's been up for about two weeks already. lol My parents lent me their fiberoptic 6.5' one and it looks just beautiful in my foyer... It can be seen through the front door and side windows by all the JWs that do drive-bys of my house. hehe
Bugging the JWs aside, it's just so wonderful to be able to do Christmas 'officially' this year (my parents always brought us gifts anyway thru the years of cult exile). The kids and I are having lots of fun with it; they ask to turn on the 'pretties' at dusk and offer suggestions for yet MORE decorations. :) They've also wrapped presents for one another. I think I'm winning. Their JW dad has no clue [yet].
I agree that this holiday stuff is so totally NOT what we were told... it's not evil, it's not greed and commercialism (ok, maybe a little, but it's fun and pretty) and even if there's a bit of Pagan to it, so the hell what?? It's about family, friends, giving, showing love and being together.

so as you can see this is my first post here...it's going to sound a bit jumbled i'm sure.. i stopped going to meetings exactly a year ago primarily due to my realization of my role as a "woman" (well i'm 22 but anyway..).
to me, being a jw woman means a life as a subserviant housewife who can make no decisions and can only excel by pioneering.
i realized that's the way the whole bible is...totally male-dominant.
That is simply insane. I've had elders infringe upon my life to an extent, but that sounds like harassment!
That's what I told those little bastards in my DA letter, along with words like "legal", "contact my attorney" and so on. They haven't spoken to me since (that was in Feb)

Hi loveneverfails! Welcome!
This issue was big with me, also. I was ok in the eyes of the mysogynist elders while married, but as soon as I kicked out the ex and was an independent woman, holy hell... They were crawling up my ass for every little thing. Skirts to short (hem at the knees even when sitting?!?), slits too short, sweater too low (like I have any cleaveage ), jeep impractical (they hated it, I think, when I'd drive up for meetings with the top and doors off) blah blah blah and so on. I held down a full-time job and was raising three kids on my own; I didn't need to be hired by the elders' family janitorial business to make ends meet. I didn't call the 'brothers' if my household stuff broke; I fixed it myself. I didn't NEED them and I think that bugged the crap out of them. I didn't fit the 'mold' that the WT made for the submissive, subserviant and second-class female. It was somewhat also the reason I left; I was tired of being treated like dirt and most of the treatment was because of my gender.
Freedom is nice.
