EUTHANASIA
by Mary inhow do you feel about euthanasia for people that are terminally ill and have no hope of recovery?
should it be made legal for them to be allowed to die a peaceful death by a simple injection as opposed to dying a painful and agonizing death?
i ask, because a co-worker of mine is dying of cancer and he's in alot of pain.

My personal feeling is that if anyone is terminally ill...they are going to die anyway. If you are going to die anyway, why not die with dignity and a choice on how and when?
It is interesting to note that when I brought this same subject up with my parents (both JW's and my dad being a servant) my mom said she would feel it was wrong and my dad said he would be for euthanasia.
I am all for it. If we have this much compassion for a pet and will put it out of its misery...why isn't it ok for us to have our own choice on the matter?

I forgot to mention something that shows the Pekingese has a heart of gold. A few years ago I was babysitting a baby boy (Trevor). When it came time for him to start crawling my Pekingese was there to help. She got in his face and barked nicely. This excited Trevor, so he would scoot closer to Zo'o (Pekingese). As he would approach her, she would then back up and gently bark. In each step she was teaching him how to crawl. The only sad thing about this was Trevors mom never had the chance to see him crawl for the first time because she had to work.

I have 2 dogs. 1 Pekingese and 1 Miniature Pinscher.
The Mini Pin is dumber than a rock. I tell her all the time it's a good thing she is cute! LOL. I am digressing. Her name is Skeelo. From our limited experience with the Greek language we chose Skeelo, thinking it means "Dog". It could for all I know. haha. Anyway, for her she knows very few words compared to the Pekingese. She knows various ways of calling her: Skee, Skeeber or her rightful name of Skeelo. She knows the words for eat. She knows the words for going to bed, which is "go night night" She also responds to a snap of the finger, she then goes to her bed. Oh, I forgot, she also knows "go lay down"...she doesn't like that command.
My Pekingese is my heart. She is so sweet and way too smart for a dog. Her name is Zo'o. Again taken from the Greek meaning animal. Up until I got Zo'o I bought into the idea that animals do not reason. This dog reasons out everything. You can see on her face when she is figuring out the best way to do something. She is amazing and she has a heart of gold. She understands everything the Mini Pin knows and so much more. All I have to do is ask "where is it?" and she is running around like a crazy fool looking for a toy of hers so we can "play". I realized early on that this dog was smarter than me. Sad to say. I noticed how many things she picked up on and reacted to, so I was talking to my husband about something and I knew that there were "trigger" words involved. I thought a moment and thought that spelling the words would not trigger her. You guessed it, she understood and reacted in the same manner as if I had spoken the words outright.

I use Yahoo.com. This loads very fast and although there are ads on the page I don't get pop-ups. From that page you can set up your own page with whatever content you like. I have TV listings, headlines, message boards,...etc. Recently it even offered a calculator! I have used Yahoo for 6 years now and wouldn't change unless they do. haha. My husband uses Netscape. I believe that is also one where you can set up your own content.

Anyone know the laws or someone who is ex-jw friendly lawyer?
by pr_capone ini have a quick question.
it is my belief that it is illegal to record a conversation without the other party knowing.
is it illegal to have someone else on the line listening without that information being disclosed to you before the conversation takes place?.

This is the information I found on the web:
"Kan. Stat. Ann. § 21-4001 (1998): Unlawful eavesdropping consists of secretly listening to, recording, or amplifying private conversations or using any device to intercept a telephone or wire communication "without the consent of the person in possession or control of the facilities for such wire communication." Violations are misdemeanors. A criminal breach of privacy, punishable as a misdemeanor as well, occurs when any means of private communication is intercepted without the consent of the sender or receiver. Divulging the existence or contents of any type of private communication, whether carried out by telephone or even letter, is also a misdemeanor if the person knows the message was intercepted illegally. Kan. Stat. Ann. § 21-4002 (1998). The state's highest court has interpreted the eavesdropping and privacy statutes to sanction one-party consent for taping of conversations and in interpreting both statutes stated: "In other words, any party to a private conversation may waive the right to privacy and the non-consenting party has no Fourth Amendment or statutory right to challenge the waiver." Kansas v. Roudybush, 686 P.2d 100 (Kan. 1984)."
Hope this helps.

Wow! The memories that this thread brings up. I totally forgot about my own experience until now. I remember 4 families that would get together on Wednesday nights to study the 'Witchpower'. Every Wednesday night we would alternate the homes we would study in. We were all from different congregations so the drive to anothers house could be 40 minutes or so away.
Anyway, at some point we were told that this was not right....that we should "cease and desist". Huh?
How is it wrong to get together to study?
The machinations of this cult never ceases to amaze me.

According to this site: http://www.nobel.se/peace/laureates/1973/kissinger-bio.html Henry Kissinger "became" a U.S. citizen.
Quote: "Dr. Kissinger was born in Fuerth, Germany, on May 27, 1923, came to the United States in 1938, and was naturalised a United States citizen on June 19, 1943."
