  we all know the calculations used by the wt to arrive at 1914. fall of babylon in 607 (false year), gentile times, no zero year, ta-da, 1914.. what did they use before that?

  i know it wasn't russell who came up with it - he just adopted it.

  i'm just curious what they had to explain away when they made the transition.. .

  Thanks for posting that,AndDon'tCallMeShirley.......I am not that tech savvy. My favorite serving of 'spiritual bull$shit' is found on page 208 in the GODS KINGDOM book. "Then the allowance for two years before the entry of sin led to the year of 1874 as the year in which six thousand years of human sin terminated and the seventh thousand years for the elimination of sin by Christ's reign began." Pure imagination and bull$hit. No one has even the slightest idea how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden before the 'Talking Snake' showed up!!!!!! 1874 and 1975 are a fiction and a fantasy based on guesses and conjecture.

  You can find the explanation of the bogus and bull$hit calculations in the book GODS KINGDOM OF A THOUSAND YEARS HAS APPROACHED published in 1973.It is located in the chapter entitled "HERE IS THE BRIDEGROOM" under the subsection THE CORRECTION OF A MISUNDERSTANDING on pages 206-211. What is so laughable is that someone pulled an imaginary 2 years 'out of their a$$' to allow for Adam and Eve to sin that is added in to make the calculation work. And yes the 1975 fiasco is based on the same calculation.

  back when i was a wee lad, my dad told me that the brothers in brooklyn had voted to purchase a cadillac motor car for the sole use of the then president, nathan h knorr.

  he'd got this information from the london bethel, him being a chum of the then branch overseer, pryce hughes and his pal ron drage.

  Absolutely true, man377! If I remember correctly, besides Knorr, both Geouge Couch and Max Larsen got their new vehicles for free too. Supposedly, during the Governing Body power struggle the cars were taken away from these guys. Then they were put into the Bethel auto pool and could be requisitioned by ANY Bethelite needing to use a car from then on. Quite a 'slap in the face' to the President and his cronies.

  What you speak about apostrate was very common in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Voyeurism in the name of 'keeping the congregation clean' was a great hobby for some Elders. Now with stalking and privacy laws the Elders have to be very careful.

  The 1874 calculation was explained away as being based upon a scribal numerical error in translating 1 Kings 6:1. Therefore the Watchtower Society had a ready made built in scapegoat.

  The 1975 calculation was explained away as a few over zealous brothers running ahead of Jehovahs Organization. Therefore the Watchtower Society had a ready made built in scapegoat.

  In reality, both calculations are bogus bull$hit because they are based on the assumption that Adam was in the Garden of Eden for 2 years before sin entered into the world.

  I agree with you 100% Terry. Anyone that has a long history with this religion, if he is honest with himself, can see the handwriting on the wall. Changing the meaning of the 'parable of the ten virgins' is much like your analogy of replacing solid bricks in a wall with wooden ones. The book GODS KINGDON OF A THOUSAND YEARS HAS APPROACHED printed by the Watchtower Society in 1973 has quite an indepth discussion on the parable of the ten virgins. It is Chapter 11 entitled "HERE IS THE BRIDEGROOM". Much of the premise of the chapter is to show that the parable proves Jesus was enthroned as King in 1914 and that Jehovah chose this organization in 1919 as the 'wise virgin class'. Like I said in an previous post, this Governing Body is 'tearing down the house with their own hands'. It only remains to be seen how they will rebuild and recraft their 'dogma and new light' without completely destroying the whole religion.

  Perhaps the Groom is the last Ministerial Servant left in her circuit and she thinks she can never get married? Maybe she committed fornication with the Groom and knows that he is lousey in bed. She might be torn between confessing to the Elders and be disfellowshipped or telling the unfortunate Bride that she is about to make the biggest mistake of her life. Maybe she is a single mother and the Groom molested her child and the Elders told her not to gossip about it and she wants to warn the Bride but doesn't want to be disfellowshipped for causing divisions. Maybe the brother giving the talk just farted and she is about to puke? I guess only she knows for sure.
