The question for me was not, 'what IS the alternative to Jehovah's Witnesses?' but rather what ARE the alternatives to Jehovah's Witnesses?. Having been raised in the religion and never really believing it, I have had to continually ask myself that question. My life became a continual process of self discovery and discovery of whats 'out there'. The final destination in life is death. Stop worrying about the destination and enjoy the process. Since I have Libertarian leanings, I always seek out a Libertarians opinion. Thomas Szasz is my favorite Libertarian. I share this quote with you in hopes that it will help you as it has helped me: "If you truly yearn to be free, you must first recognize all the ways you are unfree. Only after constructing a complete catalogue of the constraints upon you can you begin to consider which ones you can and want to diminish or eliminate and at what cost (to you and others you cherish). Your self-liberation will be complete when you are left with constraints to which you willingly, perhaps even eagerly, submit." Good luck, Formerbrother. -

How did Matthew Use the Word "Generation"?
by BluesBrother inanother "generation" thread....i know!
when splane wanted a scripture that demonstrated the bible's use of the word he went all the way back to moses and used ex.
1.6. he could have stayed in the same book and used matthew chapter 1,written by the same hand.

It appears that the Governing Body (tm) may have 'stolen' the overlapping generations idea from the study of Economics. There is a theory called the "Overlapping Generations Model" in Economic Theory. Just Google Overlapping Generations Model and you will be surprised at what you find. It appear that the 'rulers' of Jehovah's Witnesses have never had an original thought starting with Pastor Russell right down to our day.

Merry Pantsmas Everyone!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inokay, i posted this in a thread that got locked and buried.
since then i've been really busy and have overdosed on christmas music in the past week.
so, i'm resurrecting this "holy day" holiday that most people will unknowingly be celebrating tomorrow.

"Maybe the Governing Body (tm) should reconsider our ban on Christmas. If we renamed it Pantsmas the friends would eat it up as new light. Speaking of 'eating it up'..............."- Tony'Tight Pants' Morris

YMCA ? Are we allowed to go there or not?
by Quarterback inhalf of our congregation goes there to work out because of the good pool facilities and prices, and the other half think that it's wrong due to it's old charter.
but no one is enforcing the wrong or right of it.
i'd be interested in knowing how this is being applied worldwide.

Don't forget to stop at GOODWILL and pick up some new bathing attire to wear at the pool at the Y.M.C.A. The Reverend Edgar J. Helms, founder of GOODWILL, would be happy for your donation.

Why didn't Jehovah know the flood wouldn't work?
by OverlappingGeneralizations inthis has been something that is bugging me lately-.
jehovah is all knowing.
he knows that to do away with evil, he has to do away with satan.

Jehovah is always a sucker for a good, suspenseful, violent human interest story. Take for example Job, or the slaughtering of the Egyptians or Sampson. He foreknew a good story when he saw it, let it play out, killed the participants and then he couldn't wait for the novel to be written. The Flood itself was just a 'minor wrinkle' in the history of mankind.

Is this a BEAUTIFUL STORY--or what?
by Terry inis this a beautiful story, or what?.
act one________.
now in an ordinary romance of the golden hollywood era, the boy goes off to war while the young lady waits nervously for his safe return.in a cary grant, debra kerr movie, the two vow to meet after a certain period of time and tragic circumstances intervene.. in my story, the young man is a conscientious objector who goes to prison instead of off to the vietnam war.

Have the Governing Body caught themselves out in a lie?
by slimboyfat inall sorts of suspected deception going on surrounding the cutbacks and the reasons for them.
but hard to pin down a direct falsehood.
sure, they initially said they were reducing the magazines so the brothers had less to read, then later said it was to save money.

I think if they have a library it is all right. Just apply for a Y.M.C.A. library card and there will be no questions asked.

Watchtower's response to Royal Commission shows they have learned nothing and will do nothing
by wannaexit ini've quickly read through watchtower's submission to the royal commission.
seems like they aren't planning to change policy anytime soon.
they are critical of how the royal commission handled the situation.. the tone is of the submission is shear arrogance.

"They don't require two witnesses to fornication. Hypocrites." - slimboyfat
I'm glad you brought this up. When I went to Bethel entrants school, one of the examples that we were supposed to "judge' on was whether or not to disfellowship someone who stayed overnight in a house or apartment with someone of the opposite sex alone. The consensus was that they should be disfellowshipped because............what else would they being doing behind closed doors alone? I was mad as hell because I thought that no one could judge another persons motive or know what their behavior was without being present. At any rate, I haven't looked at a 'Flock' book in years. If that is still in there as a disfellowshipping offense,, someone should point out to the Royal Commission that Jehovah's Witnesses DO NOT ALWAYS REQUIRE two witnesses to a sin. Some of it is left up to the imagination.
