Ahhhhhhh.........Candy Clark! I had such a crush on her when I was an adolescent boy. She had a bit part in one of my all time favorite movies: NIAGARA,NIAGARA. I pull out the old VCR tape and watch the movie once a year. Much of the movie was shot upstate New York near Watchtower Farms.

In the congregation that my family attended in the 1970's, the average age of the Elders was 47 year old.
In the congregation that most of my family faded from, the average age is 60 years old.

Is it me or were the experiences at the assemblies really contrived?
by keyser soze inmy favorite were the ones where they were reading a wt publication in the break room at work, and an inquisitive co-worker, thirsty for spiritual knowledge approaches them.
this leads to an informal witness, which eventually leads to bible study and baptism.. in all my years of working, i've never had anyone show the slightest bit of interest in what i was reading while i was on my break at work.
but as i said, maybe it's just me..

This is the original experience of Joe Publisher and family to be used on the Circuit Assembly program.
This is the version presented at the Circuit Assembly after it has been 'massaged' and 'filled out' by the Circuit Overseer.

" you will never grow old..."
by mrquik in" you will never grow old..." a more grievous lie is hard to imagine.
i heard this one first in 1957. i was 6. my mother had just converted.
i heard it many times after that.

Like you, mrquik, I am a 'child' of the '50's and so your post resonates with me. My mother converted in the 1950's and I was born in 1955. Over and over again we were told 'you WILL NOT grow old'..........yet every single person that made this assertion to us has indeed grown old and the vast majority of those folks are dead.
My long fade started 40 years ago this month.
In July of 1976 I was YOUNG, HANDSOME and BROKE walking out the door of Watchtower Farms.
In July of 2016 I am no longer YOUNG, no longer HANDSOME and no longer BROKE!
In my book, 1 out of 3 ain't bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barbara, Is this what you are looking for?:
YOUR WORD IS TRUTH
Is the Pope Gods Intermediary?
"There is such a governing body today, even as Jesus foretold, a "faithful and discreet slave", whom he has set over all his belongings." pg.28 final paragraph
AWAKE February 8, 1965 page 27-28
(If you read the entire article I think that it alludes to the governing body being the faithful and discreet slave) -

Why JW's Rave So Much About Conventions
by freemindfade in"it was so beautiful, we are truly blessed!

My mother was a DIE HARD fanatical witness up until her death in the year 2000. However, for the last ten years of her life she would complain to me that the assemblies were a 'rehash' of 'the same old same old'! 'There is nothing new to say' was her observation.
P.S. - She always hated Fred Franz and she thought he was a crackpot. I could not get it through her 'head' that he was the chief theologian of the Jehovah's Witness religion. So even though she didn't like him, she loved the version of the religion he was responsible for and not accepting that he was one of it's main architects. (Go figure?)

Welcome to the forum. As a man raised in this religion, I am simply amazed and inspired by the many women who post here and have broken free of the 'paternalist' control of the Watchtower Society! Your bravery in thinking for yourself is beyond measure.

Bethel Economy
by sp74bb inrevelation 6:6 kjv.
6 and i heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, a measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.. this prophecy starts to be true in south europe bethels..... according to our sources, bethel families have been asked to reduce their food allowance and even been informed that monthly contribution might not be paid.. meantime, one of these branches is sending millions of € every year as donation to other wt structures, not to mention the 7 digit number on their bank account.
bethel members are not blind ;).

I can believe in the food cutbacks. In 1975, when I was at Watchtower Farms, the price of coffee and sugar began to climb. We were asked to cut back on our coffee drinking (easy for me since I don't indulge) and donuts and pastries were no longer free flowing like they were pre 1975. So yes, the food cutbacks are entirely possible. 'Let them eat cake!'
