Because mentally and emotionally they are just 'stunted' children. By criticizing 'Mother' they fear you are trying to take away their 'spiritual' security blanket.

Why are JWs so sensitive to criticism?
by Half banana ini remember a roman catholic priest acknowledging on the bbc that the outrageously anti-clerical tv comedy father ted was a humorous mocking of his church but an acceptable thing.. try mocking the jw religion to a believer and the result is so very different.. just why is it that jehovah's witnesses can never take even the faintest hint of criticism of their religion?.

JW's and the forgotten Jesus
by LevelThePlayingField inso as i have been waking up more and more over the past 3 years...i keep telling myself i'm fully awake and then i wake up more, but that's a different thread.
but anyway, i've noticed a lot lately that the wt does not mention jesus or christ very much in their literature and neither to jw's in their conversations.
they mainly talk about jehovah.

What Were Your Elders Real World Jobs?
by pale.emperor inwe all know that education is severely demonized in this religion.
and that the elders are appointed based on how many meetings they attend, hours they put in on the ministry and general attitude to other elders (as apposed to, you know, actual theological training and counseling) - so my question is, what were your elders occupations outside the kingdom hall?.
in my old congregation our elders consisted of:.

I have known 3 window washing Elders. I worked for one for a very, very, very short time when I was pioneering. The other 2 actually have cleaned or are currently cleaning the windows at the business where I am employed! I have known of:
2 self employed plumbers
2 machinists ( 1 of these actually was manager of a large shop)
1 machine operator
1 general manager of his fathers factory
4 carpenters
1 grocery store manager
1 TBA salesman
1 postal worker
1 warehouse manager
1 small engine mechanic
1 heavy equipment mechanic
Lots of different jobs but I have never known any Elder with any type of college degree.

Thank you, Mephis. I have actually found a translatable version of his C.V. by using GOOGLE. His Ph.D. is in law and he seems to have no other degrees in any other discipline. http://www.fac-droit-savoie.fr/uploads/CV_PetrMuzny2010.pdf

"Doctor of Philosophy is just the full form for Ph.D." - Mephis
Yes this is absolutely correct. In France a lawyer that wants to become a professor and teach law does indeed receive a Ph.D. degree. I have seen at least one of his papers translated into English and he is credited as having a JUDr. degree, which is not necessarily equal to a Ph. D. However, according to his 'testimonial' on JW.Org, he received his law degree in 2004 and according to prabook he received a Doctorate in Philosophy in 2005. Prabook could possibly be incorrect and this could be cleared up if someone could translate his curriculum vitae into English. He claims in the 'testimonial' that he is a specialist in law and logic and the JW.Org website even 'advertises' that "Petr is a specialist in human thinking". My contention is that besides having a law degree he may also have a degree in Philosophy and that the Governing Body (tm) is downplaying his Philosophy degree and 'up selling' his Law degree. Just my two cents in 'reading between the lines'.

Dr. Muzny has a CV posted online. However, I can't read it because it is in French, so I am not sure exactly what he was trained in at university. Interestingly enough, I found a website that says his Doctorate was in Philosophy! According to this website, he received his Doctorate in Philosophy from University Montpellier, France. It can be found here: http://prabook.com/web/person-view.html?profileId=488834
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on the SLIMY, SLIMY, SLIMY, Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses (tm) if his Doctorate degree is in Philosophy! For years they have DEMONIZED a college education especially BECAUSE you would receive an education in WORLDY PHILOSOPHIES that would draw you away from Jehovah. Now they are saying that because this man was trained in Philosophy, it DREW him closer to Jehovah! The HYPOCRISY of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses knows no bounds! Petr Muzny is a FOOL to be used as a SHILL for the 7 BOZOS of Brooklyn (soon to be BOZOS of Warwick).

"Henderson isn't sure how proceeds from the sale will be handled."
Henderson may say he is not sure how the proceeds will be handled, but you can bet your ass that these guys know exactly how the proceeds will be handled! Save the theocratic warfare misinformation tactics Elder Henderson and just make the check out to 'Watchtower Bible and Tract Society'.

Coming to a Kingdom Hall near you
by FatFreek 2005 inputting it simply, kingdom halls are no longer the property of a local group of the folks that paid for and constructed it.
the lender, the watchtower society, now says that once a mortgage is satisfied, that congregation must then declare a resolution which says it will continue to make payments, usually equal to the amount they were paying on the mortgage.
and they must do so indefinitely.

Add eminent domain and the ability to evict Jehovah's Witness congregants from their Kingdom Halls (which they usually built with their own hands and money) as one of the new powers of the Governing Body (tm).

Do Jehovah's Witnesses view the governing body differently since seeing them on the TV?
by jambon1 ini think this may be a bigger issue for the society than we realise.. when you consider that witnesses have now had well over a year of regularly seeing their 'channel to god' with their own eyes, what do you think they're thinking?.
i'm going to put this as respectfully as i can; these men are clearly a bunch of utter clowns who are laughably inadequate to present a tv show, but also, they are now ridiculously discredited due to the absolute shite that they've spoken in these laughable productions.. consider things from a jw's perspective; tony morris, stephen lett & geoffrey jackson are 'the channel' that makes their religion 'special'.
these men are the channel god is using to lead his people in the modern day.

Petty Rules
by HereIgo indid your congregation have any petty man made rules?
i remember the elders in my cong didn't like if a single brother and single sister walked in the parking lot together after the meeting ended, to their car.
you couldn't hold the mic or give a talk without a coat (that might be a universal jw rule).

PATERNALISM: a system under which an authority undertakes to supply needs or regulate conduct of those under its control in matters affecting them as individuals as well as in their relations to authority and to each other. - Merriam-Webster online dictionary
ARROGANCE: an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people. - Merriam-Webster online dictionary
The Jehovah's Witness religious system is based FIRMLY on the principles of PATERNALISM and ARROGANCE. These principles compliment and reinforce each other so that each individual indoctrinated witness comes to believe that when the organization 'speaks' .........it is 'for their own good'. Blondie has rightly pointed out that this basically boils down to 'control'.
