What book or movie most resembles the WTS in your opinion? Why?
by whyizit ini've seen where some former jws compare the wts to certain movies or books (such as the village and 1984).
i just wondered what movies or books reminded you of the wts and why?
did you draw this conclusion before or after you left the organization?

They don't call by any more!
by ozziepost inmrs ozzie and i visited the home of her swim coach on sunday.
he lives nearby a large kingdom hall which accommodates several large city congregations, yet he says that he's never been visited by the dubs.
no, never, in the more than two years he's lived there!

I have been out for 4 years and have never been called on. Maybe it's because my mum gave the elders my address, in the hope that they would lure me back.
Still I've never seen any dubs in my street or anywhere in the local vicinity.
P.S. There is no chance that I will ever be lured back. -

Were your parents a different religion before JDubism?
by Crumpet ini know an awful lot here are 3rd and 4th generation - but were there any who's parents become dubs as adults?
i'd be interested to here what it was that made an adult become a jw when not brought up that way?.
i'll relate my parents experience shortly...but its something i;ve been thinking about a lot.

My parents were greek orthodox before becoming dubs. My dad's aunt and uncle came in first and were of the anointed and they converted the rest of the extended family. Now only a handful of my family aren't dubs, the rest all got suckered in hook, line and sinker.
I think everlasting life was what brought them all in. Heck knows whats keeping them there now!
Hope this answers your question. -

Not quite sure where else to go, I'll give this place a try.
by AnonyMouse ini'll introduce myself:
i'm a person who'd like to remain anonymous.
i'm 16, and recently confessed to my mother my disbelief in her religion (jehovah's witnesses, obviously so).

Welcome to the forum anonymouse. All I can say to you is hang in there. I had a similar conversation with my mum when I was 16 and I got a similar response, tears etc and a study every week with my aunt.
Unfortunately I gave in to it against my better judgement and ended up baptised and pioneering by the age of 18! I never truly believed all the doctrines though and was just paying lip service to the religion.
It took me until the age of 35 before I could finally stand up to them all and finally leave. Please don't get bullied in to staying any longer than you have to. Get yourself a job and leave as soon as you are financially able. It will be scary but well worth it in the long run.
Good luck with everything you do. XXX -

I was debating whether or not to get a tattoo for my 40th birthday. If I get one it will be my son and daughter's initials entwined and it will be in the middle of my upper back.
I'm still undecided though. I have 6 months to make up my mind. -

by Wordly Andre inif you left the org.
have you received a blood transfusion?
for me yes, about 5 years ago i had to have an emergency operation i lost a lot of blood, and received blood, since it was an emergency i did have to make a choice, but i know if they asked me i would say yes, i probably wouldn't be here today if it was up to my family.

No I haven't but only because the need hasn't arisen. I wouldn't hesitate if I did ever need one though.

Why did you choose your USER NAME?
by In Between ini think some people actually use part of their real name.
i chose mine because i really feel 'in between', in that space where your not a jw anymore but really haven't figured out where you are in life and what path you want to take.
just thought it would be an interesting topic.

My username is Bubble as you all know.
In cockney rhyming slang Bubble and Squeak = Greek.
So in the UK if you are Greek you often get called a 'Bubble' for short.
So it's because I'm a Greek Cypriot living in the UK that I adopted Bubble as my username. -

UK & IRELAND MAP
by ballistic ini had an idea that i could build a uk map of everyones location which would show you instantly who is in your area from jwd.. (it might be an idea to do a seperate us one aswell but i'll wait and see if this one takes off first, or if anyone from the us wants to volunteer to do that one).
(and australia but you are all in the same backyard anyway - literally!!!).
anyway, all you have to do is post or email me your username and town and i will draw you on the map above which will change gradually to include everyone!.
