what age group has it easier or harder to be a jw?
I think teenagers and pre-teens. Those years were really hard on me. You want to be accepted by your friends at school and you want to be cool but thats hard to do when they see you going door to door and you know you cannot celebrate holidays.
My son is 13 and when he is with me he is a normal kid. He has friends, he is allowed to talk on the phone to kids at school. He can celebrate his birthday and have Christmas with me. I wish I had a choice when I was his age.
i got a call from my wife today.
she said they made the announcement at the hall yesterday that i got df'd.
they said that i am no longer a jehovah's witness.
Congratulations. Hope you are doing well. I remember your gas station fiasco.
I sometimes see those cards that say "Congratulations on your divorce" and I wish they made "congratulations on being disfellowshipped!" That would be good one.

or maybe its my dad in particular?????.
they things he accused me off was unbelievable, we were never allowed to do anything to ruin his standing as an elder.
This thread sure brought up a lot of memories . . and not good ones.
My dad was never and elder, closest he came was a MS. My mom would go through my school books, my purse, my mail . .anything she could get her hands on. The thing is that I was a "perfect" JW growing up. It wasn't until I married at 19 and realized what a mistake I made that I became "bad" in their eyes.
My dad would fall asleep drunk everynight but they were worried if I was passing notes in school to worldy boys!
inspired by scully's thread it made me think of what one elder used to use as his opening introduction in the ministry, which was the above statement.
it's very funny now, but at the time i was like..'whhaaat??
' he thought it would put them at ease, make them think we had a sense of humour.
My dad would stay "Hello . .I'm a minister of god . ."
Talk about embarassing! Not only was the intro bad . . my dad dresses like a clown.

last summer, my 6-year-old niece came to visit me from ny.
mind you, we are catholics and my husband and his family are jws.
i went to visit my inlaws and my husbands 6-year-old niece was there too.
The mother probably had the daughter count her "time" for informal witnessing.
i've noticed on many memorial nights that the sisters will dress up like they're going to the oscars.
some seriously look like they're going to a prom.. do they dress for jesus or the friends to impress each other?.
what is it about memorial night?
I agree with the others . .it's because we never get to celebrate anything.
In my family we always made a big deal about wedding anniversaries also. . only because there are not many occasions where we can give gifts.
I think they are obsessed with trying to catch someone doing something they shouldn't be doing.

A brother that lives in the Cleveland area owns a LARGE construction company (builds commercial) and I was told he had a Viper (this was about 10 years ago). He would drive his Cadillac STS to the meetings though. I always thought 'hey, he has the money, so why not!"
Friends of mine in my old hall had a Jaguar and had a Porsche for a while.
