It is my understanding that it is far more common for women to continue to deal with abuse. The theory is that women will justify the behavior and want to fix or change the person. The idea of I can help them through it and then they will be the person I know they are. This is where the ability to sit and think - 1) am I compromising or am I settling; 2) does this person want help or do they feel that they are fine and that there is no abuse; and 3) is this a situation where it is a work in progress or is there a stalemate. Women are known for staying in longer then they should. Nuture. It can be a good thing when it is directed in the right place. From a chick's perspective, I feel that the dogmatic religions are generally harder on women, because they usually do not have a say and are considered second class citizens. It is a dangerous place to be in so many ways.

UBM Point to ponder: Where do we fit into the equation
by Check_Your_Premises ini am reading the emotionally abusive relationship: how to stop being abused, how to stop abusing.. .
it has been an enlightening read to say the least.
i turned toward this topic due to ladylee's constant reminders that cults are simply another form of abusive relationship.. .

Woman with a flat tire. Would you have stopped to help when you were a JW?
by ObservingTexan inin the light of the second greatest commandment, "love your neighbor as yourself", when you were an active jw would you have stopped to help in the following scenario?
you are in your car and drive by a woman who is having car trouble... a flat tire.
she's struggling to get the tire changed.

I would stop and help. However, I have little upper body strength so it was pointless. However, I was known for giving a lift to women and kids that were walking along the side of the road. I stopped that after I was giving a lift to a really initially harmless looking but later to be discovered INSANE woman. I could not get her out of my car fast enough. No more. Now I will pull over and ask if they have a cell and if not, if they want me to call someone for them. Next best thing and I get to keep living. It's a win win situation.

Have you ever had a premonition ?
by troubled mind ini think i have a few times in my life, but the one i had most recently really shook me up.
it was really a re-occuring thought and feeling more than anything else .i preceived it as something happening to me when in reality it happened to some one close to me.
it sounds stupid , doesn't it ?

Instinct or premonition, I do think it is the universe's way of speaking to us. whether we listen to it or not is up to us.

come on we all know what boys and girls equals SEX. I am surprised we can all hold down jobs because we work w/ the opposite sex. I am sure our jobs are just fronts for orgy houses.

What if . . .
by Justin inthe wts had continued to keep older publications (russell, rutherford, etc.
) in print for those who wanted to do historical research?
it seems that people are now learning about "old light" and doctrinal changes when they begin to become disillusioned, but if they knew about these matters when they were still zealous jws, perhaps they wouldn't be so shocked later.

I don't think it would work either. If you think about it, there are a number of families that have been JWs for years (including mine) and they have their own library with all kinds of old books, mags and old time records and this still does not cause people to leave. They just laugh over it all.

I think it is the girl thing. Because I have a girl friend who has two brothers and it was the same way with them. She had to abide by family rules when she was with her family, but her brothers would be off picking up ladies of the night (really one did and he got arrested) and it was not as horrible as when she had the gual to meet up with friends and one of those friends was a GUY.

I have them from time to time. They can come in fast and loud or alternatively they don't happen for a long time. I had a dark cloud over my head all day once and I have a strong feeling that a love one was going to get hurt in a car ax. My mom called that night to say she had been in a bad side impact car ax. She was fine, but she was hospitalized and had to go thru rehab.
My belief is that we all have the ability to pick up on things that are out in the world, but because we filter most external matters, we don't pick up on clues and information that is out there. Do I believe in fate. NO. But I do believe that if we were more open minded we would see so much more around us.

Wow that is horrible. I honestly believe my family never went thru any of my things. I think they were too busy with their own lives. They were some of the most social humans I know. I had free rein. But the guys in my family could not be bothered to hold a position. It was the chicks that pioneered and served were the need was great. As for the boys, I think they went because the women made them. I think if you had dad's that wanted a position or to keep a position, they were a little over the top.

There was some guy in New Mexico that was supposedly a doctor who was treating all kinds of JWs in the 80's. He did the whole let me see your eyes, your feet, yada, yada, yada. One woman mentioned to me that when she ate white sugar, he always knew it because he could tell by her eyes and he would spank her. YES I SAID SPANK because she was disobeying his orders. It was my understanding that the JW doc was not really a doc, but some kind of wack/quack. Anyone from N.M. know of this story. I was never sure if she was making it up or not, because it just sounded so over the top.
