Well by your mere post they have made their first step in the right direction "they want to leave". Most likely that means that they have already been researching and looking around. All we need to do is have an open door, closed mouth (YES! so as to not frighten them off to quickly) and kind words of comfort.

How do we help JWs who want to leave?
by TwentyYearsOut inwhat if we held up signs outside of kingdom halls with "go to jehovahs-witness.com for more info" on them...or maybe a billboard.
something they can't ignore.. i'm fairly new at jwd, so stop me if you've heard this before.. .

I wonder if a JW came to your door w/ this mag and you were to engage them in convo and then ask them about the Napa Valley cases what their reactions would be. I think this mag would have been better suited for the ones that they are just giving to fellow JWs, that way they could kill two birds w/ one stone .... they could have an article about don't read or research outside of the WTBTS and this article ... now that would be total damage control!

My Theory
by Princess Daisy Boo ini have had this theory for a very long time and i would like to hear what everyone has to say about this.. i think that people are either inherantly religious or not.
if they are inherantly religious, then the wtbts will naturally apeal to them, all the deep in depth study and the bible analysis and so on.
they feel the need to look to a higher source for fulfilment.. and then there are those that are not inherantly religious... the ones the prefer to concentrate on the here and now.

I totally agree. But I think there are categories even w/i the religious v. not religious groups.
I think for religious JWs they fall into several groups: those who were born into it (and then eventually leave it cause they really belong in your not religious group ... like me); those who are struggling w/ something very heavy (i.e., death, drugs, mental health issues) and those who want to believe that their thinking is always right so in turn there must be a god who thinks this way too. Because not everyone falls into the trap of the JW who preaches at them. So there must be a special hook that grabs them.

Can a staunch Democrat be good friends with a staunch Republican?
by journey-on infor those with strong political views, is it impossible to be really good friends with someone on the other side?
my very best friends either tend to think like me on the political continuum or have no care whatsoever for politics.
those with exceptionally strong leaning toward the other party tend to get mean and nasty in political discussions which invariably deteriorate hopes for a deeper friendship.. what has been your experience?.

I am surrounded by republicans at work, but I am pretty good friends w/ most of the people I work w/. So I do believe it is possible. It can be really frustrating, but it is still possible.

Meeting Numbers
by GODLOVESME ina jw girl at work convinced this fellow to go to a jw meeting.
at the end of the meeting the elder thanked all 93 people for attending.
this fellow looked around and saw the most 20 people in attence.

Or maybe ... the attendees were not suffering w/ depression but rather multiple personalities, so the speaker was thanking ALL of the them, the 93 were all the personalities there. That would explain it don't ya think?

Hairspray. Surprisingly enough, I did like it. I saw the one w/ Rickie Lake and also saw in on the stage as well. But I was afraid that I would be preoccupied by John Travolta. Nope. He did a great job.
As for rentals. I just saw the Queen. Ho, hum. Did not make me like her. I don't feel sorry for a woman who worries and cries over a buck but not over a human.
Black Dahlia (sp?) - way too many other stories going on w/i the story. Not a real winner IMHO.
Stranger Than Fiction (though I saw this on the screen and have rented it b/4). I love this story. It is odd but interesting.
[edited because I cannot figure out the difference between "say" and "saw". Go figure!]

We are we almost all black now? Especially CO's.
by coaster infor the past couple of years at my district conventions, i have been unable to actually listen to most of it, so my mind is in many places.
one such place was to count people in several of the other sections as to blacks and whites.
section 132..42 white and 137 black, section 133..36 white and 144 black, and so on.

On a few occasions when I have mentioned to people that I was raised a JW, they have often replied "I thought that was a black religion". I have always had to laugh at that one.
I suspect it is like anything, when you appeal to those who are suffering the most in life, they are usually the less educated people which statistically are minorities. The carrot of something better with nothing more then believing in a particular religious belief makes it available (i.e., no monetary cost to them). Up in Lake County, IL (where I am originally from), the number of spanish congos has been growing by leaps and bounds. However, I found out that this past year one of the congos that my mother switched to was dissolved for lack of people. It was merged w/ another congo. But that same hall has added another spanish congo.

I have a thing for really tall guys. So to answer the age old question, "yes, size does matter" because some men do not like fat girls and some girls do not like short men. I have never dated a guy that was shorter than 6' 0" and have never gone taller than 6' 5". I am only 5' 5", so that is a bit of a height difference, but it worked for me. I also do not like skinny guys (yuck, yuck, yuck). I do not need to date a man who looks like he was just released from a concentration camp. I like men that are "thick" ... that was a termed coined by one of your boyz in an earlier post, so I feel safe using it.
I like nice hands. I love green eyes w/ jet black hair. But I always seem to actually end up w/ blondes. But my type is not the see thru pasty type. However, I seem to be their type. Oh well. Really the most important is a guy w/ a sense of humor (caustic and witty), intelligent and has a strong personality, otherwise I would railroad him and then we would have problems because I would not respect him.

would Jesus have celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on his 13th birthday?
by sosad ini hope this is not stupid question but it struck me talking to a jw friend who was agast that i love celebrating birthdays that as a faithful jew he would have.
or is this a more modern part of jewish tradition?.
from a recent thread i had some good points - notably pauls comment to not judge those that keep "special days" and she was a little taken aback by that although she said that applied to anniversaries and not birthdays.

Yes and it would have been in the style of My Super Sweet Sixteen (Mtv)
