Scully - he liked to say that all her education would be of no use in the new system. He would then say in the next breath that everything he learned at Bethel and at MS school would be very useful. Funny that she left him, I cannot imagine leaving such a fav brother!

Bethel Romeos - throwing your daughters at them
by Uzzah init was raised in a comment quoted in the national post article today:.
on speaking engagements at kingdom halls throughout the country, fathers would sometimes even offer up their daughters in marriage to him because of the prestige of his position, he said.. have any of the gals here experienced this?
did your parents 'parade you' around visiting bethelites or try to set you up with them?

If a girl could land a "Bethelite", she was the envy of the circuit.
If that ain't the truth.
I knew a guy (thru his family) that was at Bethel for years. We all knew that he would never be able to survive in the real world. Well at some point he went to MS school and was sent out to help where the need was greater. And guess what, he found him a wife. One that was way too good for him. She had come in after being in the world. She is a doctor and very well educated and put together. We all wondered how long it would take before she realized that marrying him was like marrying Rainman. She was with him less than 30 days and she bolted. Granted in the eyes of the religion she can never remarry, nor can he. However, he is still looked at like some kind of catch and she is looked at like some kind of Jezebel.
I often wondered why she was attracted to him, but I figured his C.V. was impressive to a newbie jw.

Brooklyn Bethel to be sold. Has anyone else heard this?
by nicolaou ini'll bet it's already been posted and i missed it but if not, i just heard that brooklyn hq is to be sold over concerns for safety following the 9/11 attacks.
the news has come to me through an incredibly loyal jw sister.
i know her, she wouldn't repeat anything like this if she hadn't heard it from the kingdom hall or a circuit overseer.. anything to this?.

Nic - I think it is a rumor. I heard it from the NY loyalists about a year after 9/11, but it never happened. As we know the wtbts is all about buying and selling properties that is partially how they made their millions. It is the greater version of Flip This House. They buy crappy properties, get free help, gut the place, keep it till they can sell it w/o huge consequences.

i'm in shock!
by Sunnygal41 inafter 13 years with the same car, at the beginning the week i became the proud owner of a 2002 chrysler pt cruiser!
she is the most beautiful car i've ever owned............she's candy apple red, with leather seats that are heated, sun/moon roof, chrome wheels.
when i picked her up from the dealer, i didn't even feel like i should own this car, as she is more gorgeous than i could ever imagine..........anyways, i had to share my deep thanks to the universe with y'all............i am deeply happy to have a reliable, warm, safe, but absolutely gorgeous, car to drive.........perhaps it's also partly because i will be 50 years old in august............another wonderful milestone in my life......... smooches,.

Willy - actually she knows that I live a very happy life. Only when I have contact w/ the die hard jws am I really stressed. Yes, my job is stressful, but I get satisfaction out of it.
Normally she is fine, normally she is willing to do the whole don't ask don't tell. It has been fine for over ten years. That is why I really think they must be stressing the whole special tract and end of the world theory. Something has changed, but I cannot figure it out. Based on the threads here over the last couple of months and then the jw funeral I went to in November and the dye in the wool jws that I spoke to and all their creepy jw forked tongue talk .. .they are pushing this whole end of the world is soon sooooon SOOON!

you have to question whether you can welcome back someone who threatens to withdraw their love so easily because you do not conform to their religious fanatical views
that is my biggest question. this whole thing is only going to make me gun shy should she return. i have to laugh at how jws throw stones at the apostates claiming they are evil and try to turn people against each other and yet they have the most guilt in that area.

What makes me sad for my mom is the fact that she really really wants the new system to come because she had ailments and this is what she has been looking forward to her entire life. How sad that she is older then she thought she would ever be "in this system of things" and getting sicker as the years go by and there is no hope that the end is soon to come (other then the wtbts saying it and of course she is going to really really want that to be true).
To me it is the dog that is beaten its entire life and then it takes it out on even those that try and love and take care of it. You cannot blame the dog, but the bite still hurts the same.

Is it unhealthy for JW's to be so negative?
by JH inwe often hear that we have to be postive in order to remain healthy.. are there more negative people than the jw's?
the end is close and just about everything is bad and from satan they say.. considering all this, is it healthy to be a jw?.

It is a Catch 22. They are negative but they say they cannot be happy in this system because it is satan's and to be happy in it means that you are loving what is bad. But as a jw you cannot seek help for depression because you are not relying on jah and having a true hope for ever lasting life, so you sink deeper into depression because you feel things are so bad and you think you are not being a good jw.
They are a gerbil on a wheel. At some point you would think they would be tired of being run in circle by the wtbts. but as we all know ... they don't.

I have no doubt she will return. She has physical ailments that will require someone to have to eventually stay with her and I know that she will not turn to anyone else ... she is a little hot headed Irish chick, so she is known to tell people off and not bat an eye that being said a lot of people (including jws) are afraid of her.
I do wonder if part of this is because I have been bringing up the hiding of info about child molesters. I felt if I slide that into convo that she would not feel pressure from me or that I was an apostate because she would certainly stop talking to me and never hear another bad word about the wtbts.
BTW my whole family (except my other bro) are all jws. We are a small group - I suppose because we are not Catholic :) because the Irish are known to bred. Due to the number of people dying in my family, it just consists of 1 grandfather, 1 mom, 1 aunt, 1 sister, a niece and a nephew, (1 brother and his 3 kids but he has nothing to do w/ us and left the house when he was 17/18 which was when I was a small kid, so I don't remember him much) and me.
Either way, it seems to go hand in hand w/ my other jw friends who have mentioned that since the "special tract work" that the whole chicken little approach to life that the jws have kicked into gear the whole - you better straighten up and fly right because the end is nigh.
DUMB@$$es Truthfully I knew the day was coming, I think we all know. We just hope it does not happen to us.

Nope, not df'd not da'd. Not noth'n. I just faded and then moved away. She asked me questions initially and caught me in a lie about the religion (I did not realize the magz thru the mail changed) and she called me on it. We reached a quiet agreement, don't ask, don't tell.
I really, really hate this religion. You know what burns me, is that I was all to each their own. I did not care that they believed what they believed. They are the worst when it comes to expecting acceptance but denying same to others.
